I woke up in my bed tucked under the covers. I sat up slowly, but soon felt a sharp pain in my side. I yelped loudly and collapsed back onto my pillow. Seconds later my door slammed open and Harry ran in.
"Are you okay?" he asked worriedly. Apparently he had heard me.
"Yeah, fine, just my ribs." I replied grimacing.
"Amber, you have to take it slow." he replied.
"I thought I was." I said sighing heavily.
"Well do you need any help?"
"No, I'm good thanks." I replied, "Where are all the others?"
"Zayn's sleeping, Niall's watching TV, and Louis and Liam went out for breakfast, which I was just going to make for myself, you want some?"
"Sure that'd be great." I replied smiling.
"Okay, just come down when you're ready. In the meantime... you mind waking up Zayn?" he asked.
"No, not at all." He left my room and I attempted sitting up once more just a little slower this time. After some struggle I finally dressed myself and went down the hall to Zayn's room.
I knocked softly on the door, but there was no answer so I opened the door and went in. I found a room similar to the others in the house, with a bed in the middle occupied by a, not to mention shirtless, Zayn.
"Zayn... you awake?" I asked softly.
I crept up to his bed and lightly tapped his shoulder. No response. I tapped him again a little harder, but again, nothing. Finally I gave him a nudge, and it was like waking a sleeping giant.
Zayn bolted up and his face was one that had just seen a ghost.
"What?... Who??" he stuttered.
I took steps backwards, a little shocked at how he reacted.
"Oh... Amber. It's just you." he said, "Sorry, didn't mean to startle ya."
"Yeah me neither." I replied, laughing, "Harry asked me to get you up, he's making breakfast downstairs."
"Okay, thanks." he replied.
"No problem." I said walking out of his room. I ran downstairs and walked into the kitchen, where I found Harry buttering toast, while bacon sizzled in a pan.
"Smells great." I said hungrily. I sat down at the counter and he served me up a plate. He then got one for himself and sat down next to me.
"Amber, do you trust me?"
I looked at him quizzically, a little shocked.
"Sorry, I just, well after last night, telling Louis, even though I promised I wouldn't," he paused, "I just hope it didn't make you unsure of whether you trusted me or not."
"No, I do," I replied not glancing up from my plate, "and I understand why you told him."
I sighed, "Thank you actually, for telling him, because if you hadn't I may never have."
"Well, I worry about you and I want to protect you as much as he does."
I smiled, still not looking up, but I could feel his eyes on me. I finally turned to face him and sure enough I was staring into those sea green eyes. He smiled softly and hesitantly lifted a hand to my face, brushing a piece of hair out of my eyes.
I heard footsteps as Niall burst into the kitchen. He stopped, staring at both of us with a questioning look on his face.
"Sorry... was I interrupting?" he asked.
"Nope, we were just finishing up actually." Harry replied quickly.
I just sat there quietly as I felt my cheeks start to heat up.
Niall grabbed himself a plate and plopped down next to me as Harry got up and put his dishes in the sink.
"Your turn to wash 'em Niall," he said as he walked out of the kitchen.
"Well someone's in a grumpy mood," Niall said smirking.
I laughed awkwardly as I got up and put my plate in the sink as well.
"Wow, you're leaving me too?" Niall said pulling a puppy-dog face.
"I was going to go watch TV while it's still free." I said as I walked out of the kitchen.
"Love you too." Niall yelled as the door closed behind me.
I chuckled as I made my way down to the basement. I got comfortable and turned on the TV, not really sure what I wanted to watch, but somehow I got stuck on the weather channel.
Recently I've been really tired, and I was right now, so I let myself drift off to the sound of the weatherman's voice.
I woke up, what felt like minutes later, but when I checked my phone it was already four in the afternoon. I shut off the projector and ran upstairs. I found all five boys in the living room. Niall, Harry, and Louis sat on the couch watching TV, while Zayn and Liam were talking over at the bar that was in the corner of the room. I took a seat on the couch between Niall and Louis. Niall apparently was asleep, and I glanced over to Harry who's head was glued to his phone.
"Eleanor's coming over for dinner, if that's okay?" said Louis.
"Yeah, that's fine, I need some girl time," I replied smiling.
"Okay cool, I was just gonna go make it, you want to help?"
"I'm a terrible cook, so I'll have to refuse, but thanks for asking."
He began to walk out of the room as I turned on my phone, but my attention was soon turned to the TV.
"Louis Tomlinson and the other boys of One Direction were caught carrying a teenage girl, rumored to be Louis' cousin, into the hospital," the announcer said.
Louis whipped around, Harry looked up from his phone, and Liam and Zayn paused their conversation, all heads towards the television.
"Harry, turn it off," Louis said quickly.
"Where's the remote?"
"Harry turn it off!" Louis repeated harshly.
"I can't find the bloody remote!" Harry yelled back. Niall sat up, woken by all the commotion.
My eyes stayed trained on the screen as the reporter finished her story.
"The girl's name is Amber Tomlinson, sources say she moved in with the boys, due to the death of her family in a tragic car accident."
As soon as she finished her sentence, the screen went black. Harry stood there with the remote in his hand, he let out a long sigh.
I slowly turned to face Louis, whose face was pale and shocked.
"Louis..." I said, my voice shaking, "what was that?"
"Amber I--" he stuttered.
"Why were we on the news?" tears brimming in my eyes, "How does she know about my family?"
"Am, just please--" Harry tried to speak up.
"No, you don't get to explain, none of you do," I said harshly, "You thought you could keep this from me? Did you think I was clueless? Stupid?" I yelled, tears streaming down my face.
Louis opened his mouth again, but I cut him off once more.
"You promised Lou....no more secrets" trying to lower my voice a bit, "You promised!!"
As I shouted, a sharp pain appeared in my side. I grabbed my chest, knowing that I had aggravated my ribs.
Niall tried to sit up and help me.
"I'm fine!" I snapped.
I started to walk out of the room, but Louis grabbed my wrist. I quickly yanked it away and ran upstairs. I reached my room and slammed the door behind me, and threw myself onto my bed.
I felt betrayed. I had put all my trust in them, but I didn't even know who they really were. They played me for a fool, and I fell for it.
I didn't know who they were.... This whole time, I thought they were just normal boys, who I trusted completely.
I knew I never should've made that mistake. The mistake of letting them in.
Am I making a big deal out of this? I mean they must have an explanation for not telling me.
But why didn't they? Did they think I couldn't take it, knowing they were.. what? Famous?
I thought back to the story on the news, how the reporter knew why I had moved in with them. Now a bunch of people knew about my family, when I didn't want anyone to know. It was my private life, none of their business.
That's the real reason I'm so upset, I think. I was just starting to forget about my horrible life, before this incident.
If they had only told me...
If they had only trusted me.
I buried my head under the covers and tried to calm myself down.
Every once in a while, I would hear a knock on my door, or a voice asking to come in, but I ignored them all.
I slowly got out of my bed and took a long shower, to calm my nerves. When I got out I noticed that my side was starting to bruise once more.
I dried my hair and got in some sweats and a t-shirt, returning to my bed.
I looked to the clock and it was already 10:00pm so I decided, I would try and get some sleep.
After tossing and turning for what felt like an hour, I heard another quiet knock on the door.
I tried to ignore it like all the others but then a voice accompanied it, and it wasn't one of the boys.
It was Eleanor.
"Honey, please let me in," she said.
I thought about it for a minute, but finally got up and opened the door. I walked back over to my bed without looking at her, and I heard my door shut softly behind me as she made her way over to me.
She slowly sat down next to me. Both of us facing each other. We sat there quietly, I wasn't exactly sure what to say.
"Louis, told me what happened," she said.
I nodded. I figured that's why she came up.
"And honestly, I think you have every right to be upset."
I looked at her a little surprised, I didn't expect her to say that.
"It's a huge part of their lives, and they shouldn't have kept it from you, especially for this long," she sighed, "I want to apologize as well, I thought you knew."
"It's not your fault." I replied.
"Look, Amber, I know Louis. The only reason he would ever do something like this is to protect you. He cares about you a lot, and is very protective of the people he loves. Sometimes that instinct causes him to make choices that may not be protecting them as much as he may think."
Again I nodded.
"Like I said, I understand why you're upset, but I also think you should forgive them." she said hesitantly.
"I want to forgive them, I just, trusted them, and I feel like I can't anymore."
She took my hand in hers and gave in a squeeze. "If there's one thing I've learned from knowing Louis, much less the others, you can trust them."
She then embraced me and I hugged her back.
"Thanks El," I said.
"Anytime," she replied, "Now it's really late, so why don't you get some sleep, you can talk to them in the morning."
I nodded, as she got up and quietly left my room, turning around and giving me a small smile before closing my door.
I left out a long sigh, as I lay down onto my pillow.
Sleep soon overcame me.
