I woke up with sunlight shining in my eyes. I looked at the clock and it was already one o'clock in the afternoon. I slowly sat up and made my way over to my closet, I opened the drawers of my dresser and pulled out a pair of black leggings and some fuzzy socks. I also grabbed a big white sweater and went into the bathroom, I took a quick shower and got dressed, I towel-dried my hair and let it fall down my back. I applied a little mascara, pulled on my socks, and walked to the door. I froze for a moment when I heard a conversation from outside of my door.
"Is she okay? I'm sorry I wasn't here last night I had to pick up some things from the studio." said one voice.
"Don't worry about it I think she's fine, she's just a little traumatized." said someone who I recognized as Louis.
"Do we get to meet her soon?" The first voice asked.
"We'll see." Louis replied.
As I opened the door I saw someone with a mess a brown hair walk into the room to my right. Louis was standing in the hall and noticed me walking out of my room.
"Good morning, you hungry? I was just about to make pancakes."
I nodded and followed him downstairs.
"So, I noticed you found the clothes in your closet that sweater looks good on you."
"Oh yeah thanks by the way for the clothes." I replied.
"Oh no problem, speaking of which I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping today?"
"Honestly, I think I have enough clothes for now, plus I don't want you spending too much money on me."
He let out a small laugh, "First of all I think that's the first time I've ever heard a girl say "she's had enough clothes" and second, money really isn't a problem for me."
I figured considering this huge house. "Ok then, do you want to go sight-seeing?" he asked.
"Sure, that sounds nice." I said.
"Ok you can go grab some shoes and maybe a jacket, it's supposed to be cold today, and I'll meet you down here, we can bring these pancakes to go."
"Okay," I said as I headed upstairs. I went into my closet and found a pair of brown knee-high boots with a short heel that fit me perfectly, and I grabbed a chocolate brown jacket with a tan scarf. i went back downstairs and found Louis with a pancake in his mouth holding a plate full of the good-smelling flapjacks. He handed me the plate as he slipped on a pair of Toms
We got into his car and I began to eat the pancakes off of the plate.
"How about I show you the beach?" Louis asked.
"Sure but I didn't bring a swim suit."
"Oh we aren't going to swim, we can just walk along the sand. Its too chilly to swim today anyway"
"Ok then yeah that sounds fun."
"Then to the beach we go!" he said with a smile.
After driving for about a half hour I could finally smell the sea air. We got out of his car and began to walk towards the beach. After walking for what seemed like hours Louis finally spoke.
"So... not to pry, but were you upset about your family last night?"
His question shocked me and I wasn't exactly sure what to say.
"You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I just want to make sure your okay."
"Yeah. I mean yeah I was upset about my family. No matter what I do I can't seem to forget them." I said so quietly I wasn't sure if he had heard me at first "Did you hear what happened to them?"
"Yeah, Simon told me before you came."
I felt okay with Louis knowing and even Simon, but not anyone else. I began to get nervous that they had told the other boys in the house.
"Does anyone else know?" I asked.
"No just me and Simon."
I felt like I could trust Louis and honestly I really needed to talk to someone so I decided to let my feelings out. In tears.
"Oh Amber I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset again! I'm so sorry" Louis said worriedly.
I took a deep breath "No it's okay it's not your fault, I just need someone to talk to."
"Well, I'm always gonna be here for you, that's what cousins do." he said calmly.
"I just don't know what I'm feeling I feel angry, angry at the man who did this, angry at my family for leaving, angry at myself for not getting over it sooner, angry that the family who I lived with before didn't really care for me. But I'm also scared, scared that I will never find anyone who loves me as much as they did, afraid I'll always feel alone... and broken."
"First of all you have every right to have those feelings and I feel like telling me about them will help you a lot, also I barely just met you and I already know that I love you, your an amazing person Amber and I hope I can be the family you want to have, so don't ever be afraid to talk to me cause I will always be here for you."
A smile grew on my face and I knew that I could definitely trust Louis, he reminded me so much of my brother Luke, no wonder we're first cousins. I felt safe with him and I promised myself I would trust him.
We walked back to the car and we drove home, but not after stopping at the store to buy me an iPhone which Louis insisted on because he didn't like the idea of me walking around a foreign country without a phone. I told him I would've been fine with one of those flippy phones but he bought me the newest model iPhone he could find. I felt spoiled but I can't say I didn't enjoy it.
When we got we sat on the couch with the TV on as Louis helped me set up my phone. He put in his number, Simon's and the rest of the boys just in case I would need them. He also downloaded some apps that he said I would "need to survive", but I refused to sign up for any social media websites yet, I didn't feel like putting myself out there.
By the time we were finished it was around midnight so I told Louis I was going to bed. He wished me goodnight and I went on upstairs to my room, I entered my room, threw off my jacket and boots and replaced my sweater with a oversized sweatshirt. I laid down on my bed and turned on my phone to find that Louis had downloaded some music onto it. I knew most of the songs he had downloaded except for a few by Ariana Grande, and some band named "One Direction". I tapped on a song called "Little Things" and plugged in the earphones that had come with the phone. The song was actually really good and in the next 15 minutes I had listened to at least 5 of their songs. I was surprised that Louis was into the "boy-band" types, but either way they are amazing. I wish I knew what they looked like but for some reason there was no cover photo for the album.
I turned off my phone and lay it on my nightstand. I switched off the light and lay down in my bed and began to let sleep entrap me. The last feeling I had before I drifted off, was a sense of security. I finally felt safe.
The next morning I woke up to a text from Louis:
Louis: Good Morning! I had to run some errands but there's food downstairs so help yourself. Niall's home if you need anything. Or just gimme a call :)
I went to the bathroom and washed up then went to my closet and grabbed a pair of gray leggings with a black long-sleeved shirt and some dark gray and black slipper boots I found next to the shoes.
I made my way down to the kitchen and opened the pantry. I found some Cheerios and poured myself a bowl. I poured my milk and sat down at the table. From upstairs I could hear the TV in the basement, which in fact I hadn't been in since I got here. I figured it was Niall. I decided I would go down there with him, I knew I was going to meet them eventually, so why not now?
I finished up my cereal and found the steps, I went down and I was met by anyone's dream basement. There were arcade video games, a pool table, air hockey table, and through and open door I found a huge theater sized screen with a projector playing a soccer game on the screen. There were at least three or four couches laid throughout the room each on a different level. Like a movie theater. Occupying one of them was Niall who sat reclined on the couch, not to mention, shirtless, and in nothing but his Calvin Klein's. He seemed a little shocked to se me so I quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you, it's just no one else was home so --"
"Oh it's fine! I was just watching the game from last night. Sorry I didn't know you were here or else I would've been a little more cautious about my wardrobe choices" he said obviously indicating his lack of clothing.
I laughed a little. "So, we haven't really officially met, well unless you count that time in the kitchen." he said. "I'm Niall. Niall Horan. And all the ladies love me." he said with a wink.
I couldn't help but laugh, but it came out as an awkward chuckle. Wow, this boy was fearless.
"Sorry," he said. "I'm usually not this... well cocky." he said with a laugh. "You wanna join me?" he asked.
"Sure," I said as I sat down on the other side of the couch he occupied.
"Who's playing?" I asked.
"No idea," he replied. "I just cheer for whoever has the best uniforms."
I gave him a strange look. "I know girly right, but honestly I could care less who wins-- OH COME ON!!"
Again I couldn't help but laugh.
"HOW DID YOU MISS THAT YOU WERE TWO FEET FROM THE GOAL!!" he yelled at the screen. "Sorry I get really into these games"
"No its totally fine." I said laughing.
Already, I liked Niall, and honestly I saw myself in him because I have a very competitive side, but only around people I knew. I hoped we could become friends, because I felt comfortable around him.
After the game was over, Niall shut of the projector. "I'm gonna go get dressed. I'll meet you upstairs and I can make us some grilled cheese..... by the way I make a rocking grilled cheese." he said.
"Ok sounds good" I said.
I headed up the stairs and as I got to the top, Louis walked in the front door.
"Hey Amber, how you doing?"
"Pretty good, I was wondering if you wanted to go out for lunch or something?"
"Actually, Niall offered to make me some grilled cheese, he'll be on his way up soon."
Louis looked a little surprised, but then smiled "Oh good, you've met Niall, was he polite?" he asked with a smirk.
"He was... interesting" I said laughing.
"Ah... that's Niall for you, okay well I'm gonna go grab something to eat if that's okay, enjoy your grilled cheese."
He began to head upstairs before turning around and asking "Hey I was wondering if you wanted to go out to dinner with Simon and the guys at the end of the week to meet them all, obviously you've met Niall, but I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable with it?"
Honestly, I was a little nervous to meet all of them together again, especially after the first incident. I was still kind of embarrassed for breaking down in front of them all.
"Yeah sure, okay." I said.
"Really? Okay cool. It's a date!"
"Ok sounds good."
"Alright see you later, Amber, remember call if you need me."
"Ok see ya Lou." I said as I walked to the kitchen.
"Did you just call me Lou?" I turned around to see Louis with a big cheeky smile on his face.
I hadn't even noticed I did. I guess I had heard Simon say it that one time and it just slipped out. My cheeks flushed red with embarrassment.
"It's fine!" he said, "Actually most people I know call me that so feel free. As long as your okay with me calling you Am." he said chuckling.
I gave him annoyed look but soon laughed, "Sure whatever."
He continued upstairs "Bye Am!" he yelled
Already I felt like I had found a family. I hadn't felt this happy in a long time.
