HARRY’S POINT OF VIEW:
I watched in horror as her foot slipped and she began falling towards the rocks beneath. I yelled out her name, but as the word escaped my lips I knew it was too late. It was so dark I couldn’t see where she had landed, I frantically called out to her, tears beginning to form in my eyes.
“Amber? Amber! Please answer me!” I scrambled down the precipice and found her laying in the sand with a large gash on her head, obviously unconscious.
I ran up beside her, tears streaming down my face as I carefully picked her limp body up in my arms and listened for signs of life. She wasn’t breathing, but I could hear a faint heartbeat. I dug through my pockets and pulled out my phone, dialing an ambulance as fast as my trembling fingers could.
“Hello? My girlfriend fell and hit her head, she’s bleeding badly and is unconscious. We’re at Bamburgh Beach, and I’m not sure if she’s going to—”
“Sir, please calm down, we have an ambulance on the way to your location, is there any way you can get her closer to a main road?”
“I think so,” I said quietly, still shaking.
I carefully picked her up and began jogging towards the parking lot, by the time I had made it I heard sirens coming down the street. The next few minutes were a blur as a few men came and took her from my arms, much to my disliking, and guided me towards the vehicle.
One of the younger men looked at me once they had closed the doors and the ambulance started down the road again, “She’s going to be okay,” he told me reassuringly.
I nodded but my mind spoke louder than he had, “But what if she’s not.”
LOUIS’ POINT OF VIEW:
I opened the fridge, “What kinda soda you want El?”
“Coke’s fine,” she hollered back.
I grabbed the can and headed back to the living room, plopping down and the couch and putting my arm around Eleanor’s shoulders. I handed her her drink and she gave me a light kiss on the cheek.
“So what are we watching?” I asked indicating the TV that was on some random channel I didn’t recognize.
“No idea,” she replied laughing.
I felt a vibration in my back pocket and pulled out my phone to see Liam’s picture on the screen. I thought about ignoring him, because he knew I was spending time with Eleanor, but I decided to answer anyway.
“Louis, turn on Channel 9 news right now, I’m on my way to Eleanor’s apartment with the other boys.”
The line went dead.
“Who was that?” Eleanor asked taking a sip of her drink.
I sighed picking up the remote and turning the channel like he had requested, when I saw what was on the screen, my body went numb. I wanted to move, but I couldn’t. I heard El’s voice calling to me, but I couldn’t respond.
The door to her apartment suddenly slammed open and the other boys came rushing in.
Liam saw me and quickly rushed over and began guiding me towards the door, Eleanor followed.
“Li-Liam, what happened?” I asked as we got into the car, my voice shaking in fear.
“Louis, I don’t know, Harry’s not picking up his phone, but luckily I was able to find which hospital they were at and that’s it. We are heading there now.”
Niall and Zayn were both in the car as well worried and confused looks on there faces.
We finally reached the hospital and ran inside, Liam found the room they were in and we quickly rushed to that location. As we approached I saw Amber laying on the hospital bed, unconscious, and Harry sitting in a chair close by, his head buried in his hands. Suddenly a wave of anger came over me and I stormed into the room grabbing Harry by his shirt collar and pulling him up.
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?” I yelled furiously.
I felt hands pulling me back, I fought them, but there were too many and I was forced to let go. As I stumbled back I noticed the look on his face. I had never before seen him so distraught. His eyes were puffy from crying and his hair was a mess. I felt tears brimming my eyes as I slumped back into a nearby chair.
“Please, tell me it wasn’t your fault,” I whispered.
“I can’t do that,” he replied quietly. A tear escaping his eyes and rolling down his cheek.
I felt the anger boiling up inside me again but the worry overcame it as I turned to face Amber. She was sound asleep and there was a thick, white bandage wrapped around her head.
The other boys stood there in shock, Eleanor was outside the window hand cupped to her face as her eyes became red with tears. The last strength I had suddenly escaped me as I collapsed to the ground, sobbing.
“I should’ve protected her more,” I cried. “I can’t lose her, I can’t.”
I was startled as the door open and in walked a middle-aged man in a doctor’s coat.
“Family?” he asked referring to everyone else in the room.
“Yes,” I replied quickly for all of them, I needed them here when I found out what happened.
“Well, she has suffered major wounds to the skull, there seems to be internal bleeding, but we can’t be exactly sure what damage was done to the brain until she wakes up.”
“When will that be?” Zayn asked the question on all of our minds.
“Hard to tell, could be tonight, could be tomorrow, could be next week.”
I turned to Harry once more, “How did she get hurt,” I asked as calmly as I could bear.
“She fell and hit her head on some rocks down at the beach,” he replied as quiet as I’ve ever heard him. Each word seemed to be a challenge coming out of his mouth.
I sighed deeply trying to rid myself of all the emotions battling for dominance in my mind right now.
“So, what can we do?”
“Be patient, we are monitoring her condition closely, she will pull through this, how well though, we really can’t determine just yet.”
“Thank you,” Liam said as the doctor walked out of the room, leaving us alone once more. The door opened as soon as he closed it and Eleanor peeked in.
“Um… I was going… um, do you need anything,” she said trembling.
I mustered everything in me and put on a small smile to reassure her.
“No thanks El, why don’t you head on home and I’ll call you to keep you updated,” I said calmly giving her a kiss on the forehead, she nodded quickly as I handed her the keys to Liam’s car and she headed down the hall.
I closed the door behind her and turned back around to find all the boys sat around the room, each with worried looks on their faces. I took a seat next to Niall, who looked too shocked to even speak.
I felt like I had to be the strong one so I tried to encourage him, “Niall, she’s so strong, she’s going to get through—”
That’s when he broke down in tears.
The others, besides Harry, who was in his own trance, came around him and tried to comfort him as well.
“I’m sorry,” he cried, “She just doesn’t deserve this! She’s been through so much and she’s the most caring person, I just can’t stand to see her in pain! She always made me feel special, she’s like my little sister and I just can’t—,” he sobbed violently into his hands.
Once we had got Niall to calm down, it seemed like everyone was taking turns falling apart. I had never seen Zayn or even Liam in the condition they were in right now and with every glance at every tear, it made me want to collapse to the floor and just give up, but Amber would want me to stay strong so I did my best.
HARRY’S POINT OF VIEW:
It’s my fault. She’s hurt because of me. Why? Why her? Why not me?
