Next morning, everyone in the house was running around “late” for various things. Louis had a date with Eleanor, Zayn and Liam were heading home for the day to visit their families, and Niall had a soccer game that he didn’t want to miss. He offered to take me along, but I refused since sports in general confuse me. Plus, I knew Harry was staying home, and he already had whispered in my ear that he had planned something “dangerous” for us to do. Attention towards the quotation marks around dangerous.
After everyone had left the house Harry and I both let out a sigh collapsing onto the couch.
“So, this thing you have planned….”
He instantly got up, grabbed my hand, and pulled me towards the car.
“Harry! I’m still in my pajamas!” I cried trying to escape his grasp.
He stopped abruptly and sighed, “Fine… go change, but be quick!”
I ran back inside and got into jean shorts and a flowy tank top, threw on my Toms and ran back out to the car, putting my hair into a messy bun as I went.
I got into the passenger seat and seemed to surprise Harry as I slammed to door shut.
“I have to admit, that is the fastest I’ve ever seen a girl get ready.”
I laughed as he started the car and pulled down the street. He took a left out of the neighborhood and after a few turns I started to recognize where we were going.
“The beach? Really?” I asked dramatically.
“Yes, and don’t complain, you’ll love it.”
“But it’s so cliché.” I replied mocking him.
“You know what I actually put some thought into today, so why don’t you show a bit of gratitude. Oh wait, I forgot you were a Tomlinson.”
I gasped jokingly, “I take that very offensively!” I crossed my arms in front of my chest and pretended to be upset.
“You’re cute when you’re angry.”
“I told you flattery will get you nowhere Styles.”
“You’re right that was a complete lie.”
I gasped again and hit his arm, “Rude.” He just laughed at my reaction.
“This date is not off to a good start,” I said.
“Oh, so this is a date,” he replied as we pulled up to the parking lot of the beach, he stopped the car and turned to face me, “I thought we were just friends.” He then leaned in and gave me a small peck on the lips.
“Yeah, like friends do that,” I said sarcastically. We both got out of the car and started walking in the sand towards the water.
“Some do,” he replied shrugging.
“Like you and Louis?” I said raising an eyebrow, “I was scrolling through my Instagram this morning and found some disturbing picture of you and Louis making out. Want to explain?”
He rolled his eyes, “Those fans are crazy.”
I deepened my voice and held my hand in a fist to imitate a microphone, “So Mr. Styles what do you have to say about Larry Stylinson?”
“I think it’s a big load of sh—,”
I cut him off by placing my lips onto his, I felt him smile beneath the kiss. I pulled away slightly, “You’re cute when you’re angry.” He just laughed and again closed the gap between us.
He then took my hands and began to drag me towards the beach.
“So, what do you have planned?” I asked as we reached the waterline.
“Um…” he pondered looking around, “The beach?”
“Well, obviously, but I thought you had planned something for us to do while we are at the beach.”
“Not exactly…” he said quietly, “Kinda figure we could just spend time together.”
“I love that idea,” I replied throwing my arms around his neck and leaving a small kiss on his lips.
He grabbed my hand once more and we back to walk down the shore, taking off our shoes and letting the soft sand sink between our toes.
“Race you to the pier,” he said suddenly taking off in a sprint. Once I registered what he had just said I took off after him. I was close to catching up to him, when he tripped over his own feet and stumbled into the sand, the momentum kept me running forward past him, but as passed him I saw his face and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Oh, are you laughing at me?” he yelled after me in bewilderment, I kept running but turned my head around to see him scrambling up and chasing after me with his arms spread out mimicking an airplane. He began to chase me around the beach as I giggled uncontrollably. He finally caught up to me and wrapped me in his arms, pulling me close to him.
“I love you,” he whispered softly in my ear.
“I love you too,” I replied.
As the words escaped my lips I realized it was the first time we had said that to each other and that just made me grin ever wilder. I loved how the words sounded coming out of his mouth and I loved being able to say it back to him. I loved everything about him. He pulled away suddenly, but had a smirk on his face, he took off running, again spreading his arms out wide. This time I chased him until we reached the rocks that lead up a tall cliff. Harry didn’t stop though, he kept running, hopping, and climbing up the rocks till he made it to the top of the high precipice, that overlooked the ocean and the setting sun.
“Harry, I don’t think that’s safe.”
“Oh, sure it is. I just climbed it, I’m fine,” he yelled down while patting himself down to show he was still in one piece.
“No really, Harry there’s a sign here saying ‘Danger: Do not climb without equipment.’ It looks at least 30 feet tall!”
“Amber, come on, I’ve done it plenty of times. Plus the view is great from up here!”
I sighed heavily and placed my foot on a nearby ledge and slowly began to climb. As I reached the top Harry gave me his hand and pulled me up onto the flat ground. He then dragged me towards the edge that hung over the water and took a seat dangling his legs over the side. He patted the ground and I took a seat next to him. I laid my head down on his shoulder as we looked at the marvelous colors the sunset contained.
“Do you know why I love you?” Harry asked softly.
“Why?” I questioned smiling.
“I have never really gotten too anxious around girls, especially ones I have known for so long. But it seems every time I see you, I get those crazy butterflies in my stomach. I can’t help but look at you with admiration. You’re truly beautiful inside and out, and you rarely meet girls like that. You’re so humble and no matter what you always want to know how I’m doing and how my day has been. You make me feel special, like I’m worth more than anything else. You are not only the girl I love with all my heart, but you are my best friend. I feel like I can tell you anything. I love you so much, that it surprises even me, I would do anything to protect you, anything to keep you safe. I trust you more than I trust myself. Amber Tomlinson. I love you.”
I felt a small tear trickle down my face.
“I’m sorry, are you sad?” he asked, worry evident in his voice.
“No, not at all. I just, no one has ever told me that. Harry you make me feel special. And no one has ever made me feel that way before.”
He leaned over and placed his lips on mine, and at that moment everything was perfect. After a few minutes of watching the sun set over the horizon once more we both stood and began to make our way down the cliff, since it had gotten fairly dark outside. Before I stepped down onto the first ledge, he turned me around and kissed me once more.
“I’m sorry I can’t help myself,” he whispered against my lips.
I laughed softly, “I know the feeling.”
I then lowered myself down, carefully placing my foot on each rock, but finding it much more difficult in the dark. When I thought I was about to place my foot on the final ledge I felt myself slip, I screamed out, but I had already lost my balance and was tumbling down. A sharp pain engulfed me starting at my head.
The world around me instantly went black.
