“An ice rink?” I asked hesitantly, “I am a terrible ice skater.”
Harry chuckled, “How do you know, have you ever been?”
“Well no, I just know I will be,” I said sarcastically, “Where is everyone anyone.”
“There are perks to being in a world-famous boy band. I rented out the place for the day.”
“No, actually I’m not,” he replied laughing, “Let’s go get our skates.”
He grabbed my hand and began to pull me towards the counter, which he quickly hopped over.
“What size are you?”
He got the skates and jumped back over the counter.
“Take a seat,” he said, pointing to a nearby bench. I followed his instructions and he followed me over and kneeled down in front of me. He picked up my foot and slipped off my boot.
“Nice socks,” he said marveling at the fuzzy purple and blue polka-dotted stockings on my feet.
“Thanks, they are very comfortable.”
He began to put on my skates and lace them, “Looks like it,” he replied smirking.
After he finished putting mine on he took a seat next to me and began with his. I tried wiggling my toes, but they were so tight I couldn’t.
“How are my feet supposed to breath in these, it’s going to cut off all my circulation!” I said dramatically.
He stood up and hobbled over in front of me, taking my hands and helping me up, “Well unless you want a twisted ankle, I suggest you keep them like that,” he replied chuckling.
I sighed, but a smile crept onto my face, “I really don’t think I can do this.”
“It’s fine, I’ll hold your hands the whole time.”
He led me out towards the rink and stepped out onto the ice, still holding my hands.
“Harry…” I whined.
“C’mon, it’ll be fine! The worst that’ll happen is you’ll fall on your butt and it will be sore for the rest of the day.”
“Thanks for that.”
“It’s okay, I got you.”
He gripped my hands tighter as I cautiously stepped out onto the slippery surface. My knees trembled and my eyes stayed glued to the ground, but I was able to keep my balance.
“See, you’re doing great! Now slowly try to stand up a little more.”
I hadn’t noticed that I was practically squatting, so I attempted to straighten my legs as I stood up taller.
“There you go,” Harry said encouragingly, after about five minutes we had made one circle around the rink, with him going backwards, pulling me along with him, “Now I’m going to let go of one of your hands, and we can skate side-by-side.”
“I don’t know if—” I tried to stop him, but he ignored me and slowly let go of my left hand skating over to my right side.”
He still seemed to be doing all the work, as he pulled me along next to him.
“Try to push out with your feet, that’ll make you go forward.”
I attempted what he had said and although my knees wobbled I was able to keep my balance and began to glide forward on the slick ice.
“I’m doing it!” I cried happily gripping Harry’s hand tighter.
“Did I ever doubt you?” he replied laughing.
After a few times around the rink I had begun to get used to the feeling and I felt Harry’s grip loosen.
“Harry? What are you doing?” I asked frantically.
“You got this.” He replied.
He was still skating by my side but this time he wasn’t holding my hand.
I was able to go a few feet forward before I began to wobble. I reached out and grabbed the closest thing to me which just so happened to be Harry and I ended up pulling both of us down to the ground.
Harry grunted as he hit the ice and then again as I landed on top of him.
“I’m so sorry!” I said rolling off of him.
He began to laugh, “It’s fine.”
He attempted to stand up but slipped again and plopped back down on the ice. This time I was laughing. He gave me a joking scowl and tried again, but he fell once more. After a few attempts it was obvious he wouldn’t be getting up anytime soon so we both just sat there laughing our heads off. We both went silent when we heard a slam coming from the outside the rink. We heard footsteps coming in our direction. Harry scrambled over to the wall and was finally able to get on his feet, he then skated over and helped me up.
“What’s the matter?” I asked as he pulled me over to the edge of the rink. He quickly began to take off my skates and then his.
“Remember how I told you I rented out the place? Well that wasn’t completely true.”
My eyes widened, “Wait so you broke us in here?”
“Maybe,” he replied, placing our skates under the bench and grabbing my hand. He ran, pulling me after him, towards the back exit. I heard a yell from inside, but Harry kept on going. We ran to his car and both got in. He quickly started it and drove out of the parking lot. As soon as we had made it to the main road, he began to laugh.
“Why are you laughing?” I asked irritated, “We could’ve gotten arrested for breaking and entering!”
“But we didn’t,” he replied, simply.
I sat there for a moment and then I began to chuckle as well, “That was pretty fun.”
“I’m glad you liked it,” he said smiling.
We finally reached home and went inside, where we found Niall and Zayn on the living room couch. I plopped down next to Zayn and rested my head on his shoulder.
“Where have you two been?” he asked.
“Oh you know just out and about,” replied Harry, grabbing a drink from the bar and taking a seat by Niall.
“Definitely not doing anything illegal,” I said sarcastically. Harry gave me a small glare.
“What?” I heard someone say from behind me. I turned to see Louis staring harshly at Harry.
“Where were you?” he asked.
“The ice rink,” Harry stated.
“Isn’t it closed on Saturdays?” Niall asked curiously. This time both Harry and I shot out a glare.
“So you broke into an ice rink?” Louis accused taking a seat in the armchair, faintly rolling his eyes, “Not really setting a good example for my little cousin, are we Harry?” he said jokingly.
I let out a relieved sigh.
“Don’t act like you’re so innocent Lou,” said Liam as he walked into the room and sat down on the floor at the bottom of my couch.
I glanced at Louis who was chuckling quietly, the boys quickly followed and the room seemed to erupt with laughter.
“Am I missing something?” I asked, completely clueless at what was so funny.
“Just recalling the old times,” replied Zayn.
“You know I don’t know much about you guys as a band, I tried the internet, but all I found is that Louis is obsessed with carrots, which I’ve never seen you touch once.”
The boys laughed at that, but Louis just looked playfully annoyed.
“You say something once, and I swear, it sticks with you forever!”
“So, how did you guys meet?”
“Well, you know that show the X Factor? We all tried out as solo artists and we were put together as a band,” replied Harry.
“Did you guys end up winning?”
“Nope, third place, but it was still the most amazing experience we’ve ever had,” said Niall.
The rest of the night consisted of stories from past times and lots of laughs. It had begun to get late and I felt my eyelids drooping closed as Liam talked about the time he had pulled Harry’s pants down on stage. What seemed like minutes later I was awoken by quiet voices. I opened my eyes slightly and noticed that everyone had left except for Louis and Harry.
“Can I take her up?” I heard Harry ask.
“Sure, why not,” Louis replied.
“Lou, I really care about her.”
“I know you do, and I’m sorry for not realizing that sooner. I just don’t want her to get hurt after all she’s been through.”
“Yeah I know, but I would never do anything to hurt her.”
“I trust you Harry,” Louis replied simply, “Alrighty well I’m heading upstairs, I’ll see you two in the morning. Night.”
As Louis left the room, Harry turned towards me and noticed my eyes open. He slowly walked over a carefully sat down on the couch by me.
“Well, hello sleepy-head. Were you listening in on our conversation?” he said jokingly.
I chuckled quietly, still half asleep. “Did you mean what you said?”
He leaned in and softly kissed my forehead, “Of course I did.”
I felt a smile grow on my lips as he stood up once more, “You ready to go upstairs?”
I nodded and began to stand up as well, but he stopped me and gracefully picked me up bridal style, the headed up the steps.
“You’re cute when you’re tired,” Harry said as we reached my bedroom.
“Flattery will get you nowhere Styles.”
“I wasn’t trying to get anywhere, I was just telling the truth.”
“Mhm sure you were,” I replied sarcastically. He set me down on my bed and I instantly curled up under the covers. I felt the bed sink a little and turned to see Harry lying on his back next to me.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I asked smirking.
“My room. It’s just so far,” he replied dramatically reaching his hand out but then plopping it back down by his side.
“Fine, just keep your distance,” I stated, turning to the face the opposite side.
“Of course,” he replied, but as he did I felt his arms snake around my waist and pull me closer to his chest.
I should’ve objected to our position, but I was just too tired. And I can’t say I hated it. Soon enough I heard a light snore escaping his lips and I let that lull me to sleep. Happy as I could ever be.
