Simon quickly ushered the boys out except for Louis who was now on his knees rubbing my back as I lay on the floor in a ball weeping.
I had the most emotions I could possibly have all at the same time. Confusion. Worry. Scared. Hurt. Lonely. Forgotten. Safe.
As I looked up into the eyes of my newly-found cousin I felt a sense of security in those blue eyes that looked almost like my mothers, even though hers were a deep green.
"Was my mom your aunt?" I asked.
He looked a little surprised I had said something but he calmly replied "Yes."
As I imagined my mother, I never knew she had I brother. Much less that I had cousins. Again I begin to cry, uncontrollably.
"Shhhh..." Louis says. "It's gonna be okay. I'm sorry about the boys and myself we were all just so excited to meet you, we should've been more careful."
As he comforted me I began to feel something I haven't felt a sense of peace that I hadn't felt in a long time. I took some deep breaths and began to calm myself down.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to break down like that." I said quietly.
"Hey, it's okay you have nothing to be sorry for." He said soothingly. His British accent thick but sweet. "I'll be right back" he says.
He gets up and slowly walks out of the room giving me one last smile. I slowly stand and sit back up on the couch. I get a better look of the house, it's the nicest house I have ever seen and it has a homy feeling to it.
Louis walks back in the room and takes a seat on the couch next to me.
"So I just talked to the boys and Simon and they agreed you and I should get to know each other better before I introduce you to the others."
I slowly nodded in agreement glad we were going to take it slow.
"First I was going to show you to your room if that's okay?" He continued with a warm smile.
Again I nodded as we got off the couch and headed to the spiral staircase I saw when I entered. As we reached the top of the stairs he turned left and began walking down a hallway. He stopped at the end by double doors.
"Here's your room, but before we go in I just want to let you know that my room is right there." He said pointing to a door just to the right of mine. "And here's Harry's to the left of you, Niall next to him, and Zayn and Liam at the other end of the hallway. Simon is down the other hallway but he rarely sleeps here." I slowly took this all in as he opened the door to my new room.
I think he noticed the amazed look on my face because he let out a small chuckle.
"We thought you deserved the biggest room, also it was already decorated for a girl so there wasn't any point in changing it."
I smile and said "Thank you"
He smiled back and said "So go ahead and get comfortable, you can unpack and everything and I'll be in my room so just knock when your ready. I was thinking we could go for dinner or something"
"Ok thanks again" I replied.
"No problem" he said smiling.
As he closed the doors I looked around the gigantic room that was now mine. There was a bathroom to the right that was bigger than any I had ever seen. My bed was huge, probably for a couple, and it had a lace canopy over top. In one corner of the room there was a couch with a big bookshelf full of books I promised myself I would read in the future and a television with plenty of DVDs in a cabinet next to it. Finally I walked to the other end of the room and I already knew it would be my favorite. It was a large window with and window seat with cute pillows all around I walked up to it and pressed my hands up against the glass I noticed that the window opened easily. I opened it wide to find that there was a ledge of roof right before it overlooking the backyard and in the distance a wide blue lake that had the sun setting right above it.
Carefully I stepped out into the roof and sat down. There I began to go over today's encounters. I found a family. But not the one I was hoping for. Still, I was grateful and I felt as though I could be happy here, I just needed to try.
I heard a noise from below so I decided to go back in. I began to unpack my clothes into the dresser I found in my walk-in closet. Which of course every girl dreams of, and best of all it was already filled with clothes and shoes. All my size. I felt spoiled and I also wondered how they were able to afford all this. I made a mental note to thank Louis for all of this tonight. Then I remembered that he was waiting for me in his room. I quickly finished unpacking and left my room.
As I entered the hallway I forgot which room Louis had said was his. I decided to go to the one to the right of mine. I found the door slightly opened so I pushed it further as I entered I called Louis' name quietly. I walked in and saw in the mirror in the bathroom a reflection of a boy with curly brown hair who I knew was NOT Louis I quickly turned back just as his eyes glanced up. I close to door quietly and quickly went into the one to the left of mine knowing that this one was Louis' since it wasn't the one before. As I entered Louis greeted me with a smile.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah I think so." I replied.
"Ok let's go." He said as he guided me out the door and back downstairs.
Louis and I got into his car and he turned on the music. A familiar song came on and Louis must've noticed because he asked "Do you know this song?"
"Yeah" I replied. "I think so, do you know who sings it?"
"You could say that." He said with a laugh.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Another story, another time." He said.
The ride was met with silence which I was kind of happy for because I still needed some time to think. But as soon as I began to go through my feelings I felt my eyelids getting heavy and I soon drifted off to sleep.
I woke up on the couch in the living room with Louis on the one next to it watching some TV. Someone was sitting next to him but by the time I had fully woken up he was gone.
"Hey your awake"
"Yeah, what happened to dinner?"
"Well when I noticed you were asleep I just picked up some food from take-out and brought you back home. It's in the kitchen if you want some."
"Ok thanks" I replied.
I stood up but then remembered I didn't know where the kitchen was "Down the hallway and through the swinging door" Louis said grinning.
"Thanks." I replied.
I walked down the hall and entered the kitchen, sitting on the counter was a bag full of Chinese food, my favorite. I smiled and made my way over to the island. I opened the bag and smiled even wider, it seemed like Louis knew all my favorite foods. I grabbed some out of the bag and glanced up to find that I wasn't alone.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." said a boy with bleach blonde hair that seemed to have brown roots, I also noticed his bright blue eyes.
"Oh no its fine," I replied quietly.
He smiled and said "I'm Niall, you must be Amber, sorry about earlier today we tend to get a little crazy at times."
I faked a smile but honestly I felt kind of uncomfortable.
"Well I better be going nice to finally meet you."
"Mhm." I replied.
He walked out of the kitchen, he didn't seem too bad, but ever since... the incident I taught myself never to trust anyone. Although I kind of already broke that rule with Louis, but he just is so easy to trust. I began to look around the kitchen for a plate and fork and finally found some. I sat down at the counter and began to eat. Suddenly, my mind flashed to three years ago.
I had just gotten home with my friend Melissa from someone's party. There was a police car outside of my house and as soon as I got out my car an officer walked up to me.
Even after three years I could still feel my world crumbling down around me. Melissa tried to catch me as I fell to the ground. The police officer was trying to explain how "my family was strong" and "they didn't want to leave me" but I didn't want to hear it so I began to scream as the tears streamed down my face.
And that's what I was doing now. Screaming. Screaming because I was mad. Mad at the man who had killed my family. I was scared. Scared because I knew they were gone and I was alone. Sad and mortified, that they had left me and I was never going to see them again. As all these emotions left me I began to scream even louder.
Louis came running into the kitchen to find me rolled up as I had been before when he comforted me. Again he rubbed my back and spoke soothing words to calm me down. He enveloped me in a hug. I felt his warmth and instantly felt safer as I wept in his arms. I opened my eyes slightly to see three boys standing in the doorway with worried looks on their faces. One I recognized as Niall, the other was Zayn, I think, who I remember from when I first got here, the other I didn't recognize, but had shorter brown hair. Before they could say anything, Louis shooed them out.
"Shh... Amber it's okay." he said soothingly.
I slowly looked up at him and forced a small smile. He slowly stood me up, "You wanna go up to your room?"
I nodded. He took my hand and slowly lead me upstairs to my room where I sat down on my gigantic bed. Louis began going through my drawers, and I was about to ask what he was doing until he pulled out a t-shirt and sweatpants.
"Does this look okay, to sleep in? It's actually really late so I was thinking you would want to get some sleep."
"Yeah that's fine" I replied.
He tossed me the clothes and walked over to the bed. He stooped down and kissed my forehead, which surprised me for a second. "Just remember I'm right next door if you need me."
I nodded. "Thanks Louis."
He smiled "Goodnight Amber."
He left the room and I began to change into the clothes he had picked out. I then walked into the bathroom and found a glass on the counter. I picked it up and filled it with cool tap water, which I consumed instantly. I slowly made my way over to my bed and pulled back the covers. I laid down and pulled the blankets back over me till they reached up to my chin.
I'm not sure how much I slept that night but as the sun began to rise, I finally felt my eyelids closing as I fell asleep.
