...I got a bad concussion while playing hockey." He said with a sad smile.
"I'm sorry." I said feeling bad.
"Thats alright I've learnt to deal with it."
"How long has it been since the accident." I asked curious.
"About ten years, i guess." He said.
I was shocked, "wow you were really young when you...you know."
He started laughing. "You don't age in heaven, silly, i died when i was fourteen and ten years later and I'm still fourteen."
"Oh, i guess thats kinda good, i mean we'll never get old and wrinkly." I started laughing.
Jake joined in, "i'd watch who you say that to, there are quite a few older people up here."
We both sat there laughing, and it wasn't even that funny.
Jake looked down at his watch and got up. "I got to go, another newbie is about to join us."
"So someone is about to..." I didn't want to finish my sentence and i didn't need to Jake knew exactly what i meant.
"Yeah, you can come if you want."
I was so relieved, i had no clue where else i could go.
"Alright." I said getting up.
"Hurry though, i can't be late again." He said running out the door.
"Again? So you were late for me?" I asked trying to catch up.
"Yup i was supposed to meet you at the bridge."
I just shook my head.
We got to the bridge, the same one i crossed.
"What happens if you don't cross over the bridge." I asked.
"You become a wanderer of the Earth." Jake answered.
"Oh." I said quietly.
Just then a boy walked through the thin fog that covered the twinkling bridge. He had shaggy brown hair and blue eyes. He didn't even seem to notice us as he looked around mesmerized with his hand clutching his chest. He finally saw us and smiled and damn was it a nice smile.
"Hey." He said approaching us.
"Hi there Collin, its nice to meet you." Jake said sticking out his hand.
Collin took it confused.
"Its creepy how he knows your name isn't it?" I asked giggling, Jake gave me a look.
"Yeah, just a little." He said smiling again.
"By the way I'm Jake, your guide and this is Emily." Jake said.
"Its nice to meet you." Collin said. His hand was still clutching his chest and he breathed as if it were his first time.
He caught me staring and said, "i had lung cancer for about a year and i had trouble breathing, it just feels good to be able to breath properly again."
"I'm so sorry." I said feeling bad, having cancer was awful.
"I'm all good now." He said smiling.
Jake rolled his eyes.
"So where to?" Collin asked looking at Jake.
