Amber is in her room getting dressed into a Sari. Mahi enters the room.
Mahi: Hi Amber. What are you doing?
Amber: Oh, I am going out for dinner with some friends.
Mahi: Really. I don’t think all the girls now wear Sari’s to a girls night out.
Amber: Okay, it’s true, I am not going on a date. I am going to a wedding reception with Abhi and it is going to be so much fun because it is in a nice hotel, the Holiday Inn. And I didn’t tell anyone because they might not allow me to go.
Mahi: As I said, it is 2015. You are now allowed to do many things now. You can go to this wedding with your new husband.
Amber: But what about Ba, what will she think?
Mahi: Ba doesn’t mind either. Trust me.
Amber: How do you know?
Mahi: Look behind you. (Kokila is standing outside of the room and she enters.)
Kokila: So you are going to a wedding with Abhi and you didn’t think to tell any of us.
Amber: Well, I was going to-
Kokila: We would have been worried sick if we couldn’t find out.
Amber: Ba, I think I am ready to tell you this. I am older now. I am 23 going on to 24 years old. I think I can make my own decisions and also go out on my own. I also think that we shouldn’t think backwards. We need to all modernise and understand this is 2015 and not 1967, where arranged marriages were the only way to have children.
Kokila: That is what I wanted to hear. I am proud of you. (She hugs her.)
Amber: So I can go to the wedding.
Kokila: I was always going to let you go. I have realised that we are in 2015 and we need to modernise.
Amber: Thanks to me.
Kokila: No, I realised this ages ago but you have realised just to tell me what you want right?
Amber: Yes Ba.
Kokila: And you are wearing this Sari?
Amber: What is wrong with it?
Kokila: Come on Mahi, let’s pick out a beautiful Sari for our Amber to wear.
Mahi: Yes, let’s go!
It goes to a scene with Mina in the bathroom and she goes on her phone and calls up Abhi. Abhi picks up on the other end.
Mina: Abhi, is the plan all set up?
Abhi: Yes, everything is fine! I have everything ready, it is weird how you allow me to do this.
Mina: Well, you know my secret number one and you know why I hate Amber. I just wish, she never came to me.
Abhi: Don’t worry ex-MIL. Everything is fine. I will be having fun tonight.
Mina: And go out all the way. Have fun.
Abhi: Bye! (He puts the phone down.)
Mina: Watch out Amber, you will be finally the first person to feel my wrath. (She laughs evilly.)
It goes to a scene with Kokila in the kitchen stirring food, Mina enters.
Mina: Do you need any help in the kitchen?
Kokila: No I don’t need any help. Did you hear, Amber is going to a wedding with Abhi?
Mina: Oh, how do you know that? I didn’t know that.
Kokila: I only overheard her say that to Mahi. She is getting ready now.
Mina: Oh, that is nice. I wonder why she didn’t tell me.
Kokila: Well, she was embarrassed which is why she didn't tell anyone.
Mina: Well, okay. I will start cleaning the living room. (She leaves.) Oh no. Abhi has to save himself because no one is going to save him now if he and Amber gets caught because everyone knows. I better go and check.
Kajal: (Kajal walks by.) Hi Mina. Do you want to come to Tesco’s with me? I need to get rice for mum.
Mina: No, well I was trying to find Amber. Has she left yet?
Kajal: Yes she left. Anyways, I will see you later. Can you help mum with dinner?
Mina: Okay! (Kajal leaves.) Well now Abhi is dead. He better not dodge me in otherwise he would be on my death list.
It goes to a scene with Abhi in his bedroom and Prem walks in.
Prem: Wow, wearing full Indian suit! What is the special occasion?
Abhi: Well, there isn’t one actually.
Prem: So why are you wearing Indian clothes today.
Abhi: Well, older, wiser brother, I am getting what I want today.
Prem: What is that meant to mean?
Abhi: Well, let’s just say that Amber will not be happy today.
Prem: Don’t tell me what you think you are going to do.
Abhi: Yes, I am marrying someone else.
Abhi: Just kidding, got to go and pick Amber up.
Prem: (Abhi leaves.) Oh, no! What the hell is Abhi up to? What is he going to do to poor Amber? I better call Pia. (He calls Pia using his phone.) Pia, hello. I need to tell you something urgently!
