How to save a life

Nash is your typical teenage boy. Blue eyes, brown hair, athletic, all the girls want him in their panties. Being a football player puts him at the top of the school, being Captain makes him king. When a new girl catches his eye he can't help but stare, only thing is…she's a total loser. Wears thick framed glasses, hair is always in a messy bun and wearing her sweatshirts and jeans with converse. She became an easy target for everyone. Until the day she had enough. Nash knew he could have saved her and when a girl just like the last comes into the school he's determined to save her. Before it's too late.

I laugh at the joke Jack G made. The bell rang and we all walked out the classroom. Nash wasn't in the class for some reason. Why? Was he not feeling well? He looked a little pale this morning. I hope he's okay. I spy Taylor at the end of the hall. With a girl I don't recognize. "Hey man!" Taylor smiles, bro hugging me.

"Guys. You know Skylar." He wraps his arm around her. My jaw drops. Her green eyes are replaced with blue. Her hair is straight and and she no longer wears sweatshirts.

Today she wears black high-waisted shorts with a tie dye tank top that said good vibes and a black  zippered hoodie over it with black Vans. She smiles. "Hi." She waves. "You…You look different." I manage to say. "Yep, and she's all mine too." He kisses her cheek.

I'm so confused. One minute he's going to beat her, now they're dating?! What is going on? "I gotta get to my next class." She waves and walks away.

I feel my blood boil as the boys watched her walk away, smirking. They were checking her out. Something they never would have never done a while back. "Where is Nash?" Taylor asks. I shrug. "I'm going to class." I turn and walk away. "Cam-" I wave and continue to walk. Wherever Nash is, I hope he's okay.

I wait outside the school for the boys. What's taking them so long? "Cameron!" Someone yells out. I turn to find Skylar. I frown and turn away. I hate the new Skylar. I can hear her heavy breathing as I turn to find her bent over. She straightens her back and her face is bright red. "You look like you ran a mile." I laugh. "Two actually. P.E. sucks." I laugh. She leans against the wall. "He didn't believe me when I said I remember nothing and made me run an extra mile." She groaned. She didn't look like she was getting any better and her breathing only got heavier.

"You okay?" I ask worried. "Just a little dizzy. I was going to ask you. Have you seen Nash?" I shake my head. "Alright thanks." She takes a step and I watch as her body crumbles to the ground. Oh no. I run over to her and the boys run over too.

I find her pulse and let out a sigh of relief. I turn her over, tapping her cheek. "C'mon wake up." I whisper to myself. I feel tears in my eyes as she's unresponsive.

"Dude. Just grab her. We're making a scene." Brent whispers to me. I nod and pick her up bridal style. We jog over to the car. "I'll drive!" Matt yells out.

I watch as Skylar opens her eyes slowly. She groans. "Where am I?" She mumbles her eyes still closed. "You passed out at school, I took you to my place." I answer. She opens one eye and turns to me. 'Oh. It's you." She seems unhappy with me being there.

It's not you Cameron. Besides you have other things to worry about. "Skylar, why the sudden change in clothing?" I ask. "My sister said if I dressed like a normal teen I wouldn't get picked on. I didn't even know I was bullied." She shrugged.

"Skylar do you wanna know anything about your past? Cause you can always ask me. I'm here for you." I say truthfully. I reach out my hand and place it on top of hers. She looks over at me again. "My aunt says it's best not to dwell in the past but to live for now. But I still wonder what happened to me. What I was like before." She sits up. My hand moves from her as I get ready to answer her questions.

"How'd we met Cameron?" "The first day I met you was after lunch. Taylor the school bully had beat you up, I came to help you cause I knew what a dick he was." I feel anger rise up in me. "Taylor? No he's a sweetheart. He wouldn't hurt a fly." She smiles.

She was so oblivious. So innocent. Maybe it should stay that way. "Uh, sorry that was a few years back with a different girl. We met in the library. I was helping out the librarian and you asked me to help you look for a book for a project." I lie. Everything feels wrong as I fake a smile. I shouldn't have lied but I did. I can't take it back. "So how'd we become friends?" She questions.

"We were in a lot of the same classes, you didn't get a question on the homework so you came to the library to find me and I helped you. It became a regular thing to where we just hung out and never did homework." She smiles. A lie on top of another lie. I fake another smile. I feel sick to my stomach as the look of trust is in her eyes. She trusts me. I lied to her. It's all wrong.

"Who bullied me?" My heart beats faster. I can't say Taylor! "Nash." I panic. Her eyes widen as she stands up. "I-I need to go home." She stutters. "See you tomorrow?" I say hopeful. "Coarse." She smiles but I can see it's forced as she walks out the front door.

What have I done?! Nash and I barely talk and he's gonna completely ignore and hate me for the rest of my natural born life. I drop my head in my hands. He can't find out. He can never find out. Maybe if I keep Skylar away from Nash long enough she'll forget.

Who am I kidding! People who bullied you is something you'll never forget. I still get nightmares of Taylor! I feel tears in my eyes as I hear the door open. "Cameron?" Nash's voice is hoarse like he's been crying. Now is not the time to cry Cameron. I sniffle and bite my lip. I take caution as I remove my hands from my face. Don't let them fall. Think about something else.

Nash. There's something wrong with him. Be there for him. Comfort him. "What's wrong?" I ask. "Everything. Man my life has just been a downward spiral since Christina died." He plops down in the couch. "Well, life's a rollercoaster you know, and like every coaster it goes down, but it eventually goes right back up again." I try and muster up a smile but stop as I realize I can't. "I just can't wait for it to end." He mumbles. I feel a lump in my throat at his words. "The downs well I mean every-" "The whole ride Cameron." He glared at me. I just now noticed how dead he really looked.

He had dark circles under his eyes, he looked skinner like he had been eating less. His eyes were less blue and vibrant then they usually are. He looked drained. "I just stopped caring. I haven't gotten any sleep in weeks, I don't even have the energy to shove food in my mouth cause what's the point? I'm going to die anyways." He explains.

"Nash. Stop talking like t-" My voice was shaky, "Cameron. My life it's not going anywhere. I have nothing left. I was kicked off the team, disowned by my dad, being one of the reasons one of my best friends killed themselves, no one even likes me, I ha-"

I jump out of my seat. "NASH! STOP THAT! DON'T YOU EVER SAY THAT NO ONE LIKES YOU! THAT YOU HAVE NO FUCKING FRIENDS! YOU HAVE A FREAKING HOUSE FULL! SKYLAR SPENT THE WHOLE DAY LOOKING FOR YOU! SO DON'T YOU EVER FUCKING SAY NO ONE LIKES YOU! Cause you are fucking loved so damn much. I promise you if you ever attempt suicide and you live I will fucking put you in your own grave. You hear me Grier? Dead or not, I will bury you." My voice is shaky as I point my finger at him.

"Well bury me then." My arm drops to my side as he stands up and walks into the kitchen. His response. It didn't even sound like him. It was a completely different person. Like I was talking to a whole different person that just looked like Nash.

Well bury me then.

He's not going to...

He wouldn't...
