Do you know that one person, just that one person who you always want around cause it's special, even if you don't talk it's just enough.
Skylar is that one person.
I love her so much, it's an intense love that's so strong it chokes me up. It gives me anxiety at what she's gonna do next. It's a feeling that no one else can give me.
So I sit here while I listen to the doctor ramble on about something, thinking about how she makes me feel.
"Nash! Are you even listening?" He smirks.
I shake my head, a small smile as I remember why I wasn't listening.
"You seem happy, what's going on?" He sits on the edge of the bed.
And at this moment I realize he's just trying to be my friend, he doesn't want to be my doctor he wants to be my friend and he generally cares for me.
"Skylar. She visited me today and I dunno know she just made me feel special. Like someone actually cares. I know like everyone in my family even though some have a tough way of showing it care, but Skylar she just makes me believe it." I can't help grinning.
"Well, I'm glad you found that special someone." He gives me a soft smile.
"I don't know about that." I shake my head.
"Nash if she's got you getting lost in your thoughts and smiling like a fool." He pinches my cheek.
"Then she's the one."
I smile. Maybe she is the one.
"But back to what I was saying." He stands up.
"We're gonna keep you a tad longer. Have you been taking the pills we've been giving you with your dinner?" I remember he's doctor and not just any normal guy that just walks into my room to hang out.
"That's what you call dinner?" We both laugh and it feels good to laugh. Nothing I've done today has been faked and for once I'm actually happy.
"Yeah I have been taking it." I answer.
"How have you been feeling?" He asks.
"Better than last night." I cringe at the thought of how vulnerable and weak I was.
"That means the pills are probably working, but as I said before we're gonna have to keep you a bit longer to really know." He explains.
"That's okay." I nod.
"Alright, well gotta go but do you need anything?" I ask.
"Nope, thanks Mark." We both smile as he walks out.
Is Mark right? Is Skylar really the one.
I jump as the phone rings.
"Hello?" I have no idea who it is, they should really give you Caller ID.
"Hey Nash, it's Matt." He sounds so sad.
"Hey Matt, what's wrong?" I ask, I hope he's okay.
"I just, everyone around school knows what happened to Skylar that night, and I've realized Skylar may never remember that we dated or what we had."
I feel angry. "That's what you're worried about?" Out of all the things he could, no should be worried about, it's that.
"Yeah, Nash you don't un-" I cut him off.
"No, you don't understand Matt, Skylar has no idea that everyone knows and she's so scared to find out, and she feels that everyone is against her because everyone keeps giving her these nasty looks. Matt her life is falling apart and all you care about is if you'll ever be together again? Or if she'll ever remember what you guys had?" I say.
He doesn't reply. "Matt if you're more worried about that, then did you really have anything?"
"We did. More than you will ever have with her." He mutters.
What's he talking about? "What?"
"I know you're trying to make your moves on her. We all see it. Nash look you can't treat her how you treated Mahogany. She's not like her, she's different."
I feel my blood boil. "Are you saying I'm just trying to get in her pants?"
"I'm not trying to say that, I am saying that." He chuckles.
"I'm just trying to be there for her so when she thinks her time is running out she knows she has someone, cause clearly Carter didn't have his best buddy to lean on."
"Are you saying that I'm the reason Carter's dead?"
"No, I'm not, I'm saying that maybe if you cared a little more and took your head out of your ass and got off your high horse maybe he would've been here a little longer." I fumed.
"I don't think you get to give advice on how to help someone who was trying to commit suicide when Christina killed herself right in front of you. You are such a fucking dick Nash, and you know what I wished you had jumped off that fucking overpass and struck by a damn truck cause you fucking deserve it." He hangs up.
Did he really wish I was dead? He couldn't he's one of my best friends. I dial Skylar's number.
I listen to it ring as I twirl the cord around my finger.
"Nash? What's up?"
I smile as I realize she knows the number.
"Matt. We were talking, things were said and he says he wishes I was dead." I breathe, a tear rolling down my face.
"How long are you supposed to be at the hospital?" She asks.
"A few more weeks."
"Alright, I'll see you soon." She hangs up.
Was she really gonna spend the few weeks with me? Is she really that nice? Does she really care for me that much?
I sniffle, I need to stop crying before Sky-
She's here, and she looks tired. She's dressed in a black tank top with a blue cardigan and blue Spiderman pants to match. Her hair in a messy bun and her feet stuck in UGGS she looks so cuddly as she rubs her eyes.
"Hey." I smile.
"Shh." She drops her bag and I scoot over as she climbs in.
"Now why are you crying?" She asks, her eyes closed.
"I dunno know." I shrug, more tears coming down.
She opens her eyes, wiping a tear away with her thumb.
"He's not worth your tears." She says, her voice barely a whisper.
At that moment, I realized, Skylar got out of her own bed, packed her clothes, climbed into her car, and drove all the way here, climbed into the bed and comforted me, all while half asleep, for me. She skipped school, she could have been doing so many other things right now, but instead she chose to climb into bed with me to comfort me. The suicidal boy on pills.
"Skylar, I need to tell you something." I start. She nods for me to continue.
"I, I think I love you." I mumble.
She bites her lip. "Nash there's no think, do you love me or not?"
I'm so scared. What if she doesn't love me back? "I don't know." I whisper.
She grumbles something, turning on to her back.
"Are you mad?" I ask, I really hope not.
She turns to me. She groans and squeezes her eyes shut.
She opens her eyes again, and I can't help but get lost in her eyes. Her lips crash against mine and I'm quick to kiss back.
I tug her pants off, and now we're both stripped down to our undies. I play with her bra strap as I deepen the kiss. I run my hand to her thigh, pressing my thumb into her skin, tracing patterns. A moan escapes her lips. I smile against the kiss.
I jump at the knock at the door. I now remember we're in a hospital.
"Shit." I mumble, climbing off her, she jumps out of the bed shoving our clothes in a corner. "Hold on." I shout.
"Can you see them?" She whispers. I shake my head. She jumps back under the sheets. "Come in."
She giggles and I gently elbow her under the sheets. "Hey Na- Skylar? What are you doing here?" Mark smiles.
"Just keeping Nash company." She giggles.
"You guys seem awfully giggly." He smirks.
"You know us teens, always giggly." I can't hold back the chuckle.
"I also know you teens are always up to something. So I'm gonna leave and let you guys do you. I'll see you tomorrow Nash, nice to see you again Skylar."
"Yeah see you tomorrow Mark."
"Nice to see you too!" She chirps.
The door closes. We hold back our laughs for a good minute, until we burst out laughing.
"I can't believe we got away with that." She whispers. We both laugh again.
I hover over her again. "You know you look extra pretty like this." I mumble.
"What do you mean?"
"Under me." I wink.
She blushes. I lean down for another kiss but she stops me. "It's two in the morning. I need to go to school tomorrow."
"Ugh, do you have to?" I groan. "Can't you spend the whole day with me? Just you, me and Netflix. You did bring your Mac?" I ask.
She laughs nodding. "I promise after tomorrow, I'm all yours." She taps my nose.
I fall onto my side, wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her closer. She throws her leg over my hip, so we could be closer, our foreheads against each other. I sigh happily. She giggles.
I close my eyes and I'm ready for a blissful sleep.
