The concert was already an hour in, and most of the front stage was littered with items thrown by the audience. Water bottles, food wrappers, flowers, confetti, streamers and even bras! The nerve of these girls! Didn't they have any dignity, then again, any decency?!
I will admit, being backstage of a One Direction concert, felt like a dream. Miss Cainwood would think different, but this was a dream come true. Being able to see their personalities while they performed their songs was different then listening to their albums. I could do without the screaming girls. But it was wonderful being able to be here.
"Miss Kelsey, 1 minute till the team's performance. The boys will be announcing the performance after they finish performing the current song they're currently singing." Mesmerized by the boys on stage, I didn't didn't dare turn my eyes away from the performance thinking it would ruin the moment. Without turning to the technician I said "thank you."
The boys were currently singing Little Things, and for once, the entire audience was quieter than it was before. Girls were crying and swaying along softly to the boys singing. Some of the girls held their best friends standing next to them, wiping their tears from their faces, or just sang along. After what seemed like forever, the boys finally finished the song and the audience erupted in applause and screams. The techies and the dancers tensed up while some of them covered their ears and winced in pain. Ignoring the applause and screams, I put on a smile and faced everyone and yelled happily.
"Alright everyone! This is it, our first performance of the tour! Let's start it of with a big bang! That way we can be ready for the rest of the year!" Everyone backstage cheered along with a couple of whoops and a loud voice echoed on stage announcing the performance.
"Ladies and gentleman! Thank you for coming to the grand opening of the One Direction Tour! We are proud to present a wonderful performance by a world recognized group touring with One Direction! Please put your hands together and give a round of applause to the amazing, talented tour team... Golden Hope Academy!!"
The crowd roared in excitement and the team ran out on stage waving and blowing kisses to the audience and they all stood in their places waiting for the music to start playing. After a few moments, finally the music starts to play and the audience bursts into excitement, shouting and yelling. Everyone started to sing along and jumping along at the performance.
"Wow, they're amazing." I felt someone's breath tickle the back of my ear and it raised hairs on the back of my neck. I look to see whose behind me and see Liam looking at the performers in awe.
"Y-yeah! They really are!"
"Is Kaitlin the choreographer?"
"S-she's one of them...."
Liam started to look at me intently and I felt my cheeks flush.
"Quite amazing really, I didn't really think she'd have enough time to be a choreographer when she's so busy all the time."
Him being so close to me just made my heart pound, but him looking at me so intently just seemed to make it worse. I took a step back, hoping that he wouldn't see how red and nervous I was. I broke eye contact with him and started to play with my hands, a nervous habit I developed when I was under stress and paranoid.
The air around us seemed to feel awkward and tense. What should I do? What should I say? Maybe if I think about something else it won't feel so awkward. Does he feel awkward? Of course not! He doesn't have a thing for me, if he did he'd be acting weird just like me!
Questions and what to do reeled through my mind. Finally after what seemed like forever of awkward silence, he finally spoke up which eased the awkwardness floating around us.
"I made sure to have a technician record the performance for your boss."
"Y-you did what?"
"She's unable to watch the performance, so I'd thought it be best if I asked someone to film the performance for her to watch later."
I stared in awe at Liam, I knew he was thoughtful about others feelings, including his fans. But this was beyond thoughtful, it was super thoughtful!!
He smiled at me, and I smiled back. "Thank you, you've saved me a lot of time for asking someone to do that."
"Aw, it's no big deal, really. Knowing how strict Kaitlin is, I would think that she would look at the film so she can make improvements with the choreography and such."
"That's exactly what she does! She does that every single time!"
"I figured as much."
For the next few minutes, my focus shifted off little by little from the performance, to Liam. I didn't realize it at first, but as the conversation with him grew, I was able to get over my anxiety of talking to a top hit celebrity, and feel like I was talking to an good friend.
"Watch out! Coming through!" I'm suddenly pushed from behind, by a technician that's holding a large box. The impact sends me flying into Liam which causes us to fall down on to the ground.
"Owww.... That hurt..."
"Are you alright?"
I rub my back and give a quick nod, "yeah... I'm fine..." My nose was suddenly filled with the scent of something dark and sweet. Cologne? How could that be?
"Yes, Mr. Payne?"
My eyes met Liam's and my heart started to pace faster.
"C-Could you get off me? This is quite uncomfortable..." I didn't realize it at first, but I was right on top of Liam. When the thought finally clicked in my mind of what was just happened. I shrieked a little and scrambled quickly to get off him. My face was turning hot and I started to feel a little dizzy just thinking about what happened. I stood up quickly and started to panic.
"I-I'm so sorry Mr. Payne! Did I hurt you?! I know I'm heavy! I completely and sincerely apologize! I hope I didn't crush you!"
Liam chuckled at my reaction and helped himself up. He brushed himself off and gave me a smile,
"You're just fine, Kelsey, it was an accident. It wasn't like you attacked me."
"I know but..." I looked away and did my best to hide my embarrassment, but I could feel my face flush red, and that was a sure giveaway that I knew I looked stupid. As usual, the clumsy Kelsey had to go and ruin everything. Not to mention this wasn't the first time I fell on to someone today!
"Kelsey, you're just fine." Liam placed a hand on my shoulder and gave another smile. Gosh, when he smiled like that it just made me blush even brighter. Good thing it was dark back here, because I was brighter than a cherry red tomato.
"Alright, I still feel sorry for landing on top of you."
"Don't be, it's nothing to be sorry about."
Liam looked as if he wanted to say something else, but he was interrupted by the announcer on the intercom. "Let's make some noise for the Golden Hope Academy! That was an amazing show!" Then all the performers on the tour team came flooding in backstage laughing, giving high fives and cheering for their finished performance. Was it seriously finished that quickly?
"Alright, I've got to head back to the boys, I'm on in a couple of minutes."
"A-ah, okay, good luck out there!" Liam smiled at me one last time and walked away. That smile always seemed to make my heart beat a little faster every time. I felt lightheaded and leaned back on the wall to support me. Running my hands through my hair, Liam's smile kept coming to mind. I didn't realize that every time his smile came to mind, I was smiling as well.
