1. A Stubborn Designer

I shot up from my bed. Breathing hard and inconsistently. My hair was plastered to my forehead and my body was covered in a cold sweat. Where was I? I rubbed my eyes and looked at my surroundings.

Home. In my bedroom. I sighed with relief. It was only a dream. I kept reminding myself that it was only a dream. Just a figment of my imagination. Was it though? I had the same startling dream since I was 15. Pushing the thought out of my mind I brushed my hair to the side, I looked at the time.

7:15 AM

I always woke up this early. Why? No reason.

I was soon interrupted by the sound of my phone. Reaching to my nightstand and answered the call.

"Miss Cainwood! Your awake!" A loud voice pierced my eardrum making me to pull my phone away.Kelsey, my assistant. I knew that high pitched squeal anywhere.

"I wanted to inform you of an appointment that Mr.Walters has made an appointment this morning at 9:30. He wants to discuss your decision of his design for Golden Hope Academy." She says informs happily.

"I thought I denied his designs." I rubbed my temples, I knew a headache was going to come soon.

"Yes. You did, but he wants to discuss some it with you on a more personal level."

I wanted to ask why, then realized it was a dumb question. I sighed.

"Alright. Tell him he may come. I'll see you there."

"Okay! See you there!"

I hung up the phone and sighed. It always amazed me of how much energy she had in the morning.

I bounced from my bed and made my way to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and saw my hair was an atrocious sight. Stripping off my pajamas, I stepped into the tub and turned on the shower. The surge of cold water splashed on my body and sent a shiver down my spine. Soon, the water started to warm up and I soon relaxed.

Soon I stepped out of the shower and slipped on a bathrobe. The steam from the shower fogged up my bathroom mirror. I took a towel and wiped the mirror. I blow-dried my hair dark brown hair, put on some makeup, and my clothes. I looked in my mirror one last time before heading out. My dark brown straight hair and dazzling blue eyes was the most startling thing about me is what people claimed. I sighed and brushed my hair one last time making sure my left shoulder was covered. On my left shoulder was a a pink scar that was smaller than a width of a quarter and was stretched in length from my ear to my shoulder blade. I quickly covered the scar with my shoulder and made my way out.

My name is Kaitlin Cainwood. I'm 19 years old and the CEO of Cainwood Enterprise and Golden Hope Academy. You're probably thinking that I'm too young to be a CEO. I agree. I wasn't supposed to take over my family's business until I was 25. But my parents died when I was 15. Ten years too early. But then again, I learned the meaning of responsibility and how to run a business. It's better to learn early than later.

I hopped into my car and started the engine. I turned up the radio and backed out of my garage.

"Good morning England! I hope your ready for this morning! Because we have a killer playlist on non-stop music coming your way! We're gonna start up this morning with Kiss You by One Direction!" The music started to play and I wrinkled my nose in disgust. I hate pop, but mostly I hate Boy-Bands. I changed the station to a alternative station. Last thing I needed was an unattractive Boy-Band to ruin my morning.

I soon arrived to my business. It was a large building that stood 4 stories high. It resided in a open woodland. My fathers side of the family had owned the property for generations. It wasn't until 20 years ago that my father decided to build a business.

I reached the front doors and made my way to the elevators.

"Good morning Miss Cainwood." The secretary at the front desk said.

"Good morning Connie, let's make sure that you work hard as usual."

"Yes, ma'am."

I entered into the elevator and pushed the top floor. I looked at my watch. 8:50. The usual time I always arrived at.

The elevator dinged and the doors opened. I walked out and saw Kelsey talking to a man outside my office.

"Ah! Miss Cainwood! You've arrived." She smiles. Kelsey was a tall dark haired blonde with dark green eyes and a dazzling white smile. She graduated two years ago with a major in business and accounting. She also was on the track team in high school. Why did I hire her? She got things done and was quick on her feet.

When I reached the end of the hallway. I realized the man was Mr. Walters. He was a short, stocky, bald man that had a temperamental attitude. He was in line for designing a new uniform for my academy. Let's just say he wasn't my top choice for the new uniforms.

"Ahem, any reason why you've came so late to your office?" He pushed his round glasses up on the bridge of his nose and scowled.

"I've came at the same time everyday for the past four years, Mr. Walters. I think I would have known by now if I've been late." I pushed him aside. With a audible grunt from him, I took out my office key and inserted it inside the lock. Turning the key, I pushed the doors open, to be greeted by the smell of vanilla and honeysuckle. My office was the image of Modern.

White granite floors and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling. A bookshelf that covered the back wall and in the middle of the bookshelves was a glass window with a wonderful sight of the woodland. Pillars were connected from the ceiling to the floor. My desk was black and sitting in front of my desk were two leather couches facing each other with a coffee table in the middle. The interior hasn't changed since 20 years ago. And I planned to keep it that way.

"Mr. Walters, I thought our appointment was at 9:30. Why are you so early?" I walked to my desk and placed my laptop on the desk. I sat down and rested my head into the palm of my hand.

"Ah, yes, I decided to come a little bit early to talk with you a little more. If that's possible." He grinned. I paused for a moment and sighed. "Alright, what do you wish to talk about?

He waddled over to my desk and slams a huge portfolio in front of me.

"As you can see, I have been in this industry for 20 years. I know what I'm doing! I know my clients!" He points to me with a sheepish grin.

"Everyone knows that you have the Top Ivy League School in the world! So you have to have the best of the best! And that's what I prepared for you! I know..."

I tuned his blabbering out and looked at his portfolio. There was indeed a lot of luxury in the design. But I wasn't looking for luxury. I was looking for professional and modest uniforms. Plus, the materials he was using for the designs were too expensive. If I bought his design my company would go bankrupt. With a sigh, I closed the book and interrupted him.

"Mr. Walters."

He stops mid sentence and looks at me. I gesture for him to take a seat and he sits.

"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in your design."

"Your design is too flashy and luxurious for my school. I was looking for something Professional and Modest. And currently, I don't see that. Also your materials are too expensive for me. I'm sorry but I have to say no. Kelsey, please show him the way out."

"Miss Cainwood! Can't we discuss this more! I mean I still have an hour till my appointment is over!"

"Yes, you're right, but like I stated before. I decided to go with another design. It was more original and much more work was put into it. So there is no need to discuss this subject for an hour. Kelsey please show him out." I shove his portfolio in his chest and waved to Kelsey. Kelsey grabbed ahold of Walters arm, and with a smile "Right this way, please!"

Fury welled into his eyes and he ripped his arm away from Kelsey and glared at me

"GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!" He shrieked. Raising a fist into the air. He stomped to my desk and slammed his hands down. "How could you deny my design?!" His breath smelled like onions and his eyes looked as if they would pop out of their sockets any second.

"Mr. Walters-"

"Don't interrupt me! I'm not finished! How could you claim that my prices are over the charts and say that my design is not appropriate! I made sure to follow your dress code!"

I stayed calm and quiet at his yelling. To think that this old man was throwing a fit was unprofessional. Though, I kept my cool and let him rant. The yelling lasted for a few more minutes until he was finally out of breath. He breathed for air. His eyes were blood shot and his ears were bright red.

"Mr. Walters, did you come here to throw a fit in my office? And judge my choice of not accepting your design? If so, then please leave. I don't have enough time to put up with your 2-year old tantrums. I chose Mr. Logan's design and that's who I'm going with. That's final!" I exclaim

"How could you choose that little kid's design! He's only graduated and you decide to give him the job?!" He slams his fists in my desk again.

"I gave him the job because he understood what my school is about. Hard work and professionalism, and currently your little fit is very unprofessional!" I exclaim

"THAT'S IT! YOU'VE GONE OVER THE LINE CAINWOOD!" He leaps at me, sending the portfolio papers flying through the air. Falling over backwards he grabs ahold of my throat and starts to strangle me.

"SECURITY!" Kelsey's voice rings through the air. My hands fly up to Walters and I try to peel his hands away. It was no use though. His grip was deadly and I was starting to feel the effects of it. His weight was crushing me! He had to have weighed over 200 pounds!

"You think your so superior? Huh? You think that a spoiled brat like you has the right to deny my designs?! You're wrong! I've been in this industry for 20 years! I could run this business ten times better than you!" My head started to spin, my vision started to blur. My lungs burned for air. I tried to throw him off me, it was no use. This man weighed as much as a gorilla.

"Well, Cainwood, have any last words before you die?"

"GET OFF HER! YOU HOBBIT!!" A loud snap sounded through the air and Walters grip suddenly released over my throat and his weight off my chest. I sputtered and coughed, gasping for air. My vision returned and I sat up.

"Miss Cainwood! Are you alright?!" Kelsey kneeled next to me in worry. "Kelsey... How did you...?" I looked to down to my right to see Walters knocked out. How on earth did Kelsey manage to knock him out? She holds up the portfolio that Walters gave to me earlier. It was bent in half. My eyes widened in surprise.

"His portfolio has to weigh over 15 pounds. I'm surprised that it hasn't been used as a weapon, until now."

Security finally came and took away Walters and his portfolio. Kelsey had me sit on the couch with a ice pack, while she got me a Hot Chocolate as I talked to the Police.

"Miss Cainwood, I apologize for the incident that happened. We'll make sure that he is charged with Assault and Attempt of Murder. Are you sure you don't want to fill out a restraining order?" The policeman asked. I wave my hand "No, as long as he's charged with Assault and Murder Attempt, then that's enough."

"Miss Cainwood! I have your Hot Chocolate!" The Policeman says goodbye and Kelsey sits next to me with my drink.

"Sorry for the wait, the line was huge at Coco's. They're having some offer going down there for One Direction."

"Yes, apparently every 100th person gets a free concert ticket to One Direction. It's a good deal if you ask me." She smiles.

"Kelsey, please tell me you didn't wait to be the 100th person to get a ticket." I sigh.

"No! No! Of course not! W-why would I do that?" She laughs unconvincingly. To think a smart person like herself would like that horrid Boy-Band. It lowered my expectation of her a bit. I sigh and drink my Hot Chocolate.
