*3 Weeks Later*
I walked into the bathroom of my house and took the box out of my shirt. I read the instructions and took the test. I waited about 3 minutes and looked to see what it said and it was positive. I didn't cry or scream I just sat there with a blank look on my face. I couldn't believe this was happening. We used protection or at least I thought we did. That's when I broke down in tears.
“Ellie, are you alright in there?” asked my mom.
“Yeah.” I said and wiped my face and left the bathroom.
I took the pregnancy test, wrapped it up, and put it in my trash, so no one would see it. I grabbed my cell phone and called Jenna.
“Hey, what's up.” she said when she picked up.
“I am about to tell you something huge and you have to promise not to freak out.” I said.
“What is it?” she asked sounding a little worried.
“I'm pregnant.” I said.
She said nothing.
“Jake's the father.” I said. Again she said nothing.
“Would you please say something so I know your concious.”
“I thought you said he used protection.” she said.
“I thought he did.”
“Couldn't you tell the difference?” she asked.
“It was my first time, I didn't know.” I said feeling like an idiot.
“What are you going to do?” she asked.
“I don't know.” I said.
“Are you going to get an abortion?” she asked.
“No way. I can't even think about that.”
“So what then?”
“I was thinking adoption.” I said.
“Do you think Jake will let you?” she asked.
“It's not his choice.” I said.
“He's the father.”
“Yeah and I'm the one you will have to carry this child for nine months and have to go through the pain.”
“It just seems a little unfair. You should at least tell him.”
“I will tell him and I'm going to tell him how it's going to be.” I said angrily why wasn't she on my side.
“Okay, I'm sorry.” she said.
“Even if Jake doesn't step up you won't have to do this alone.” she said. She sounded like she was about to cry.
“Thanks. I'll talk to you later.” I said and hung up.
I texted Jake telling him to meet me at the cafe. I walked downstairs and found my mom in the kitchen.
“I'm gonna go out.” I said.
“Okay, be back by dinner.” she said.
I walked out the door and thought about how I was gonna tell my mom. She did almost everything for me. I knew this was going to disappoint her. I walked to the cafe and found Jake sitting at a table.
“Hey, you wanna order something?” he asked me.
“No, there's something we need to talk to you about.” I said sitting across from him.
“What is it?” he asked.
“You've got to promise not to freak out.”
“Now you're starting to scare me.”
“Promise me.” I said.
I took a deep breath and told him, “I'm pregnant.”
“Umm, okay, uhh, wow this is umm, crazy. Are you gonna get an abortion?” he asked.
“No, I want to carry this baby full term, and after I was thinking adoption.” I said.
“You don't want to keep it?” he asked.
“No, do you?” I asked.
“I don't know. This is all happening so fast.” he said putting his face in his hands.
“Look, I'm only fifteen and I'm not ready to raise a baby yet.” I said.
“Okay, I guess it's up to you, but just so you know I will be there for you no matter what you decide.” he said taking my hand.
“I'm so scared.” I said.
“It'll be okay.”
“No it won't. How can I tell my mom about this?” I asked.
“You're going to have to go through a bunch of pain and you're afraid of telling your mom.”
“I just can't stand disappointing her.” I said.
“I know.” he said.
I went back home and saw that Jenna was there waiting for me in the kitchen.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“I wanted to help you tell your mom about the pregnancy.” she said.
“I'm scared of how she's going to react.” I said.
“I know that's why I'm here.” she said.
“Okay can you get my mom and brother in the living room?” I asked.
“Sure.” she said and left the kitchen to get them.
Once they were in the living room and sat down I stood up to talk.
“Okay, so I don't really know how to say it so, I'm pregnant.” I said.
My mom just kind of sat there staring at me looking shocked.
My older brother Sean stood up and asked, “Who's the father?”
“Jake.” I said.
Jake and my brother are on the football team together. They didn't really talk much outside of practice. Sean is a junior.
“How can you be so stupid?” he asked.
“Sean, that's enough.” said my mom.
But Sean kept going, “Seriously, your only fifteen. And I don't wanna be an uncle at seventeen.”
“I've decided to give it up for adoption.” I said.
“If you're sure that's what you want then we can talk to an adoption agency.” said my mom.
“It doesn't matter if you give it up for adoption it's still gonna mess up your life. People will see you in a couple months and see how fat you've gotten and they will figure it out eventually.” said Sean.
“It doesn't matter what they think about me, it's none of their business.” I said.
“You think I wanna be the brother of a pregnant girl and mom wants to have pregnant daughter.” he said.
“Sean, stop it.” said Jenna.
“After everything mom has done for you. I guess I just thought you were smarter than that.” he said and stood up and walked out of the room.
“Sean, wait.” said my mom, but he was already out the door.
“I'm sorry.” I said.
“Your brother is right, I don't know what you were thinking, but I will support you on this.” she said.
“I don't what I was thinking.” I said.
“What's done is done, I'm going to make dinner.” she said and went into the kitchen.
“Are you okay?” asked Jenna as we went upstairs and into my room.
“I don't know.” I said.
“Sean will get over it.” she said.
“I don't think he'll ever forgive me.” I said.
“Ellie, Ellie, would you quit daydreaming and pay attention.” said Mr. Johnson.
“Sorry.” I said.
“Now as I was saying...”
Sean forgave me eventually, but we were never close again. I had ruined relationship with my brother.
