Wolf Stone

When Kyra moves to Baneberry, Tennessee, she expects to forget everything about her old life, but when she meets Mason everything turns upside down as she's pulled into an entirely new world. She finds herself wishing for everything to go back to normal, but little does she know nothing will ever be normal again.

16. The Power of Fear

I was surrounded in darkness. I could feel its weight on my fur. I couldn't see, or smell, or feel. I let my ears guide me until I felt smooth stone under my paws.

Dad I can't see!

Good. Now, do you feel the energy from the necklace?

N-no...should I?

Yes. Try harder.

I focused. Nothing.

I still can't feel it.

Ian growled. I heard paws scuffing the floor in front of me. Something brushed past my fur. I growled. I felt a sharp pain in my leg and smelled blood. Whatever was here had bitten me.

Try harder!

There were multiple shapes moving around me know. They took turns bitting at my legs. I snapped at each in turn, but always came up empty.

Kyra, focus!

I can't! I was becoming very pissed off. One more shape bit at my ankle and I could feel the necklace's energy.

Light flooded the room and I attacked everything that moved. Blood flowed around my paws and then it was gone along with the bodies.

Ian stood beside me. He looked...afraid.

Kyra...calm down. They're not real. They can't hurt you. I wouldn't let them if they could.

He continued talking in his soothing tone and I felt my form grow smaller. I had turned into the monsterous form that wolves take when they loose control of their emotions. I had become a monster. My eyes were forced closed.

I woke up back in the cave. Mason was growling at Ian attempting to get him in a corner. Evan stood reading the symbols that surrounded the pool of water. Everyone else was outside. I ran before anyone could notice I was awake.

I kept running until I came across what I was looking for. A graveyard. I looked through the names on the graves looking for my mom's. Then I found the one that said: Emily Harper Stone born 1973 died 1998. She was 25 when I was born. I sat down and put my paw to the polished marble.

I don't know how long I had been there, when I felt like I wasn't alone. I turned and saw a light brown wolf.

Kyra, you've gotten so big. You look just like your father.

Yes, my precious daughter. I'm sorry I can't be there for you in person, but I will never leave you, sweetheart.

Mom, I'm so lost! I don't know what to do! I can't control Nora's necklace or even my own emotions.

Yes, you can. I believe in you, Kyra.

"Kyra! Where are you?!", Mason yelled.

My mom turned and walked into the trees.

Wait! Mom, wait! Please!

Mason came through the gate in his human form. I looked back at the stone. Where my paw had been there was now two paw prints overlapping. Ian noticed it too.

"Did you put that there?", he asked.

I shook my head. Mason tossed me some clothes and I went behind the trees to change.

"I want to go home.", I told Mason. I was exhausted and I slumped against his arm as we walked. He picked me up and I fell asleep quickly.

Mason's POV

I carried Kyra to the cave. My dad and I decided to stay there until Kyra learned to use her necklace. I pulled my phone out of my bag and sent Garth a message.

We are staying here for awhile. Make sure pack stays safe.

I will., he replied.

Ian had told us what happened and I know that must have terrified Kyra. I wonder if there is a way I can join Ian and Kyra to help her train? I'll have to ask Ian I guess.

I fell asleep to Kyra's peaceful breathing. Hopefully, the next training session they have will go better.
