Wolf Stone

When Kyra moves to Baneberry, Tennessee, she expects to forget everything about her old life, but when she meets Mason everything turns upside down as she's pulled into an entirely new world. She finds herself wishing for everything to go back to normal, but little does she know nothing will ever be normal again.

11. The Move

"Mom. Dad. I need to talk to you.", I said. My voice started cracking before I finished.

Mom just stared at me. She opened her mouth like she was going to speak, but closed it again. Dad sat looking at his hands on his lap.

I couldn't find the right words, so I looked at Ian. He nodded and started to talk.

"Kyra is going to be staying with me for a while.", he said in an unforgiving tone.

My parents looked at me. Mom said,

"You don't even know this man! Just because he's your father doesn't mean you have to live with him!"

I stared at her. I knew I could never explain to them why I had to, so I said,

"I know him better than I know you right now."

That hurt them. Dad sucked in his breath and Mom's jaw dropped. They started to cry. I hated to do it. I wouldn't have if I didn't need to.

"Kyra, do you want to go get everything you need?"

"Sure." I headed upstairs and grabbed a bag. I put a few sets of clothes, my laptop, and my rabbit inside. I hooked Philip's skateboard to the side of it and put my toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, and the rest of my tolietries in another bag. Then I slung my wolf hoodie over my arm and went back downstairs.

Ian took the bags and went to put them in his truck. I stood by the door akwardly. I knew my parents didn't want me to leave, and I didn't want to go. They just couldn't understand. I decided to let them break down in privacy. I hugged them both and went outside.

"Ready to go?", Ian asked.

"As I'll ever be."

"I'll come back for anything else you need tomorrow."

Ian walked over and gave me a hug. I hugged him back and climbed in his truck.

Ian had a small apartment in town. It had two bedrooms and one Jack and Jill bathroom. The rooms were small, but I didn't mind. I went into the second bedroom to set my stuff down. It had one small window and a bed. The closet was a decent size. I put my clothes on hangers and slid them on the rack. I put my rabbit on the pillow, next to my pajamas. I left the room and went to find Ian. He was sitting on the couch stirring a cup of hot chocolate.

"I'm taking over your bathroom for a while.", I said.

"That's fine. I'm just going to finish this and then I'm going to bed."

"Ok. Goodnight, Ian."

"Goodnight, Kyra."

I took a quick shower, and when I got out Ian was already asleep. I climbed in bed and pulled the covers over my head. I cried for a little while and finally fell asleep.

Unknown POV

Luke should be back soon. I can't wait any longer! Where is he?!

"Relax. I'm right here. I got what you wanted."

"Give it to me! Now, boy!"

He held up a strand of hair. I smelled her scent on it.

"Good work, Luke. Take some extra food tonight."

He stared nervously at the strand of hair.

"What are you going to do to her?"

"I'm not going to do anything to her. That's your job."

I plucked a hair from his head and mixed it in a pot of chemicals. Then I put hers in.

"Is she going to get hurt?"

I looked at him. I needed him out of my fur. I shifted into my monster of a wolf and roared at him. He turned and fled; tripping over his own feet in the process.

My wolf was terrifying to all my little helpers. It had become corrupted by years of murdering other wolves. He had one red eye and one black eye. His muzzle was scarred from centuries of war. Fangs poked out from his bloodstained lips, ready to rip off your limbs. He was ugly. Yet, he was perfect.

When I had finished my brew I put it into Luke's soup. That would keep him from disobeying. After all, it's going to be hard enough to kill his mate without him fighting me too.
