Wolf Stone

When Kyra moves to Baneberry, Tennessee, she expects to forget everything about her old life, but when she meets Mason everything turns upside down as she's pulled into an entirely new world. She finds herself wishing for everything to go back to normal, but little does she know nothing will ever be normal again.

5. Oh No, not again!

Garth and Mason had gone back to get Mason's truck. So I sat on the couch. I walked outside after a little while, and sat down on a fallen log. I sat there counting the stars, until I heard a growl from across the trees. It was a wolf. No, it was The Wolf. The one from last night.

I wanted to run, but my legs refused to move. We stood there staring at each other. Then a small brown came running out of the forest, she was followed by several more wolves. They started fighting The Wolf. That's when a man came up behind me. He clamped his hand down on my mouth and said,

"I'm not your enemy. Turn and face me Lost Wolf."

When I did I was surprised to see a man who looked exactly like Mason. He had the same blonde hair except his eyes were a light blue instead of brown. It must be his dad. I nodded at him and he let me go. He stood in front of me in a protective stance watching the fight.

I noticed headlights coming towards us. Mason must have heard the earsplitting howls and snarls, because he jumped out of the truck, changed into his wolf, and ran over to his father and I. Garth had ran and joined the fight. Mason started pawing at the ground and snorting. He watched them very carefully. When they had it down on the ground, Mason walked over and bit its tail. It then changed into a human. I moved so that I could hide my face in Mason's father's shoulder. I didn't think I could handle looking at a naked man that tried to kill me. Twice.

"Who are you?", asked Mason. I peeked around his father's shoulder to her his answer. I wished I hadn't. He was looking at me. He had a beard where he hadn't shaved in a while, and his hair was matted down. It was so dirty I couldn't tell what color it was, and his eyes were strange. They were a silver color with a blue streak going through one of them.

"I am her...her...", he tried to answer, but he passed out.

Mason growled. "Take him to Rose!", he ordered. He walked over to me and took my hand.

"We're leaving.", he said. He started to pull me to his truck, but his dad moved in front of us.

"I don't think so. We're all going back to the house.", he calmly said. He changed into a grey wolf and ran. Mason also changed into his wolf and bent down so I could ride on his back. The rest of the wolves followed behind us.

I don't understand! Who was this man?! I have no idea who he is, and he suddenly shows up in my life claiming to be...what exactly? I hope this Rose person could get him talking again. I wanted to know who he was and why he was following me.

When we arrived at the main house, I looked up at it in amazement. It was a huge cabin that sat on the side of a cliff. It was made of a light colored wood and it had huge glass windows. The walkway was made of cobblestone bricks and was surrounded by colorful hydrangea bushes. The porch had simple railings and several rocking chairs. The front door was glass panels surrounded by a wood frame. Mason held the door open for me then slammed it when I was in the house. He obviously meant for the others to stay outside. Mason's father put his hand on my shoulder and led me to a hallway off to the back of the house. Their was only one door down this hallway. He opened the door for me and I walked inside.

"Stay out here Mason.", he said in a stern voice. He left no room for argument, so Mason watched me until his father closed the door. I smiled at him, but he didn't smile back. That kind of worried me.

Mason's father walked behind me into a small room. It had a desk with a computer on it and a small chair. There were a few pictures hanging on the wall. One caught my eye; it had a wolf howling on top of the same cliff the house sat on. He pulled out another chair from the corner of the room.

"Have a seat."

"Thanks." I sat down.

"I'm Evan, the pack alpha, and Mason's father."

"I know. You look exactly like him. I'm Kyra."

He laughed, "It's nice to finally meet you, Kyra. Now that we know each others names, lets get down to business. Do you know that man?"

"No. I don't think so."

"Ok. I didn't think so. Now I want you to stay away from him-"

"But!", I interrupted.

"-until he wakes up. Do you understand? He's dangerous.", he continued.

"Good. Now do you have any questions Lost Wolf?"

"Yes. Why do you call me that?"

"Kyra, when is your fifteenth birthday?"

"In a few weeks. Why?"

"You'll see soon enough. Now your parents are probably worried; it's time to go home. I look forward to seeing you again."

"Me too."

I walked out of the room. There was a woman waiting for me.

"Hi! I'm Mason's mother, Bree. I'll show you out." She had Mason's eyes and smile. I liked her already.

"Ok, thanks, Bree."

"No problem."

She took me to Mason, who was waiting outside. She kissed his cheek and hugged me goodbye. We got in his truck and drove to my house. We sat in silence the whole way there. When we arrived I unlocked the front door.

"Do you want to come in?", I asked.

"If you want me to."

I looked at him. Why was he acting like this?

"Did I do something to you?!"

He just stared at me.

"When you stop acting like this you can come in.", I said.

I wasn't surprised to see my parents weren't home. They always stayed out late on days ending in 'y'. I headed into the kitchen and made a bowl of popcorn. The clock on the microwave said 12:36 a.m. I've been out all day.

I took my popcorn to the couch and turned on the TV. I heard Mason come in. He walked up to the couch and got down on his knees at my feet. He took my hand in his and put it to his forehead.

"I never should have brought you into this.", he said.

"It would've caught up with me eventually. That man claims to know me not you."

When he didn't answer me, I asked him,"Do you think we rushed everything?"

"Let's agree to take things slower. Ok?"

"Ok. I have to go home now. I'll see you tomorrow." I didn't really want him to leave but I said ok anyway.

He smiled at me. I smiled back at him. Then he leaned down and kissed my forehead.

"Goodnight, my princess. Sleep well. If you find yourself in a bad dream just say my name and I will come, because I'll always be listening. Even in your dreams."

I slept better than I've ever slept before. I felt completely safe. I woke up around 7:00 the next day and got ready for school. Today was going to be amazing.
