I know that I'm not the type for socializing or talking to strangers much at all, but I promised my mum that I'd at least try to make some new friends. So here I am, at a party filled with outgoing cheerful people who all see to know each other. Looking around, I try to spot someone who looks like the type of person I would like. Not for example, the group of girls dancing in the centre of the room with their perfect blonde hair and short, tight dresses. After almost thirty minutes of standing in the corner alone the blonde haired girls strut towards me. 'Hi!' the one in the centre says to me, obviously the leader, with three others following her lead and posing in the same position. 'Hi' I mumble, overwhelmed with their smiling faces and confident voices. 'You're new right?' the leader asks me 'Well, don't worry we'll make sure you fit in. A new school can be very daunting you know, you're lucky you have us to show you how everything works.' She continues. 'There are some simple rules to follow, you know, your basic doe's and don'ts. But don't worry, if you stay with me and mine you'll have no problems.' She smiles and shows a line of perfect, white teeth.
'And if I don't' I ask nervously, trying not to sound too dislikeable.
'Well, we'll see if you find out won't we?' She smiles again, this time with the others copying.
'Hey!, Britany.' I turn to see a guy calling her over with a creepy grin on his face.
'Oops, sorry, have to go. I'll see you later. 'Byeee'
'Byeee' The other three girls repeat together. Finally they walk away with their hips swinging, flicking their hair as they go.
'Uhhhh' I sigh as I watch them walk away, glad to be out of the spotlight.
'So, you've met Britany I see.' I jump and turn around to see the boy from History class the other day, I recall his name is Mathew.
'Uh yeah' I reply, still recovering from the shock.
'I know she can be a bit intimidating, but she's all talk mostly and most people only pretend to like her just to be in the popular crowd.' He reassures me and offers a kind smile.
'So, I'm guessing you're not a fan of the Barbie dolls then?' I ask. Glad that some-one else see's past all the makeup plastered on their faces.
'Definitely not' He laughs.
'So, what's up with 'Toodles poodles'? I laugh, covering my mouth with my hand as Britany walks towards me, pouting with bright red lips.
'Hey!' She exclaims. 'Oh, Mathew I see you've met my friend....'
'Jenna' I say. Sneaking a quick look towards Mathew.
'Jenna' She says. 'Nice name. Anyway I know you'd both love for me to stay and chat, but I've got a party to host.' She flashes a smile at Mathew and looks down at me before sauntering back to where her friends are waiting for her.
'Wow, you really know how to make friends don't you' he exclaimed. 'Don't bother, you don't want to be friends with her anyway and I'm glad you're not scrambling for her approval, like most people around here.' He nods towards a girl talking to Britany in the corner. 'Megan Sanders is eager to get in Britany's crew and she'll do almost anything Britany tells her to do.'
'Ok, well thanks for the heads up but I really should get home, it's getting late.' I add.
'Yeah, of course.' He reply's. 'I'll see you later Jenna.'
'Bye' I say as I turn around to the exit door the other side of the room. I don't know about Britany and her crew, but Mathew seems really nice I think, as I jump into a taxi to take me home. I smile and relax in the back seat until my house appears around the clearing. After paying the taxi driver, I open the front door, finally home.
