Hayden sipped her Martini excruciatingly slowly for her liking but with the man next to her talking her ear off she needed to make it last.
“So that’s when I shot the bear that almost attacked us” He gloated and she wished the misery would just end. He would add an extra wink after every sentence which made her cringe every time.
“You know what, I have to uh-go and make sure my friends are okay”
Before he could say anything she was already off her seat with her drink in hand. She stood in a corner spot that was isolated.
A waiter passed her with a tray of what looked like shrimp balls, she scrunched up her face and politely declined the offer. She couldn’t believe she had let her best friend Mark drag her to one of these things again. Mark was someone she had met in her first year at university, they weren’t very fond of each other at first but after being assigned a project together they became closer than ever.
She felt a small pinch on the side of her stomach and glared at Mark
“Hayden smile, Jesus you act like you were forced to be here” he said while fixing his already neat collar. He was handsome and very athletic which was obvious from his lean muscular body.
Hayden stared at him like he just said something inhuman.
“First of all, you did force me to come and said and I quote
“Hayden, come on it will be fun. Better that those novels you read” and let’s not forget you promised me take out” she spoke with her hands “And who said I read those novels”
“I know the moaning didn’t come from the neighbors Hayden” He smirked and her eyes widened, her cheeks turning a dark shade of red
“Besides didn’t you want to see your gorgeous best friend get a promotion?” he asked pouting. Mark was working for a top class magazine as an Assistant. He was lucky to get the job seeing as he was still in University and only 20 years old for that matter. His boss Dominique was given free tickets to a charity event which she gave to Mark because she was going to spend the weekend with her boy toy Tom.
“Last time I ever come to one of these things for you” she muttered and He pouted at her lame threat because he always managed to convince her to do about anything he wanted.
“Oh shit, here comes Michael” He cursed panicking
Hayden looked around and spotted his ex walking towards them
“Don’t just stand there Hayden. Help me hide!” he exclaimed but it was too late.
“Mark, Hayden” He greeted them both smiling
“Hello Michael” Hayden answered sounding strained from holding her breath while talking
“Mike” Was all Mark said
“How have you been? I miss you” He stepped closer to Mark who seemed to be turning a light shade of purple
“I’m sorry but I’m seeing somebody else now” He quickly spoke grabbing Hayden, who looked like she was about to pass out. Once they were in the clear they both panted, holding their knees.
Hayden burst out laughing after she caught her breath “What were you thinking dating that guy” she asked finally composing herself.
“He’s hot besides I didn’t expect his breath to almost kill me”
Mark was a good looking guy; averaged height. He came from a very rich back ground and was so infatuated with Mark but he had detrimental bad breath
Hayden laughed harder at him ignoring the daggers she was receiving
“I think it’s gotten worse” The face he made when he said that made her laugh ever harder and she couldn’t breathe.
“Come on, we have to get to our table” he grumbled. They made their way to a table with a few other guests who were gossiping about everyone who attended the charity. Mark fit in well because he liked a good gossip once in a while and honestly she got all her gossip from him.
“Which company do you lot work for” A pale woman asked them
“I actually work for Que as Dominique’s assistant” Mark answered sipping the glass of water they found on the small round table “This is my Girl Hayden, free tickets” he mentioned and the woman nodded excitedly.
“There he goes” A plump woman spoke fanning herself with a cigarette in her mouth “Look at that man walk...I swear the woman who gets to fuck him must be on cloud 9 everyday” she added and the sounds of claps echoed in her ears
“You’re telling me” The pale woman they were talking to a few seconds ago added on. Mark and Hayden stared at them and watched as they gushed about the man; it was probably some sleazy bastard anyway. According to Mark they were only older men who attended these sorts of functions with their wives or mistresses.
“Thank you, I am very glad to contribute 500,000 to the children’s hospital” That oh so familiar voice that drowned out every other sound in the room. She turned around and there he was, radiating power and dominance in his perfectly tailored suit.
The claps brought her back to reality and she got up suddenly feeling very lightheaded
“You okay?” Mark asked worriedly, standing up as well
“Uh-uh yeah I just need a little air” she stuttered picking up her clutch bag
“Do you want me to come with?”
“No” she answered giving him a reassuring smile.
She made her way through the large crowd, accidentally stepping on people’s feet or tripping on her own. It had been two years since she last saw Russell; she saw his name in dozens of articles on the new businesses he started up or articles that were just talking about him in general on being the youngest millionaire at the age of 20.she assumed he took Chad’s offer.
She could hear a woman’s faint voice giving a speech behind her and she tried not to make any noise. She ran into something hard and dropped her clutch bag.
“Damn It” she whispered picking it up quickly “I-I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going”
“Its okay” the deep voice answered and she looked up meeting his stormy grey eyes instantly. “Hayden” The way he said her name made the burning sensation instantly retreat to pit of her stomach.
His jaw was covered in a 5 o’clock shadow that she desperately wanted to touch. It’s like all the emotions she had packed away were rushing back fast. His lips were in a straight line as he looked down at her. His sinful grey eyes still wild but missing something.
Russell watched her every movement and watched her bambi eyes move from one spot to another on his body, she took her bottom lip into her mouth which he noticed was a habit of hers when she was uncomfortable; her body was covered in a figure hugging long black dress that managed to give him a painful erection. Her hair looked shorter and darker. God he missed her. He wouldn’t say it out loud but he did and as much as what he was about to say would sound so animalistic and crude he didn’t care but he missed fucking her and having her to himself completely.
Before he knew what he was doing his large hand stretched out and he tucked a red lock behind her ear and slowly trailed his thumb against her jaw, enjoying the feeling of her soft flesh under his thumb, he desperately wanted to kiss her tinted red lips that were parted in anticipation.
Every raw, sensual, passionate hunger they felt for each other was very much alive.
“Dance with me” he spoke lowly, his eyes getting darker
“I-I should go” she replied trying to sound stern but failing.
“I wasn’t asking baby” he smirked at her intimidated voice
“Don’t call me that” she snapped and the smirk wiped off his face and his face hardened not liking the disrespectful tone she used and it was now her turn to smirk
His large hand circled around her arm and he gently pulled her to the dance floor where a few other couples were dancing
He pulled her closer, dragging his hand down to the small of her back purposely lingering on the exposed skin that was showing. They swayed to the music while she tried to avoid any type of conversation with him
“Why won’t you look at me” he asked her bluntly as he spun her around
“I am” she stubbornly answered
He let out a small chuckle at her stubbornness and moved his hand a little more down, gently brushing her backside with his fingers.
She let out a gasp and placed his hand back on her back “What are you doing here?”
“I came to make a donation” he answered confidently, a bored expression playing on his handsome face.
Her hand pressed his shoulder and he hissed in pain
“What’s wrong?” she asked worriedly
“Nothing” he answered pressing the shoulder with his right hand and then continued his dance with her. She decided to let it go because she knew he wouldn’t tell her anyway.
“Do your men really need to stand everywhere?” she asked him noticing the muscular men dressed in black suits
Before he could answer one of the tall men walked towards them and whispered something in his ear and his face become angry
His expression softened when he saw her concerned expression and he dipped his head lower kissing her pale neck softly, she let out a small moan that he was only able to hear. He could control her body like and instrument and the thought frustrated her to no end. He pulled her closer giving her a feel of his excitement.
“Have dinner with me” he demanded when he looked at her dazed eyes.
“No” she simply answered. Her going back to those feelings she had for him was definitely not an option.
He was beginning to get impatient with her and it was pretty evident.
“I don’t take no very well Hayden” he told her, his voice void of any emotion.
The same man walked towards them and Russell looked at her intensely “Until next time baby” he gruffly spoke kissing the back of her hand and walking off into the crowd that had been watching them closely.
