45. Chapter 6

Her body felt numb and frozen, he wanted to marry her. Where they young? Yes but they loved each other...That should count for something right?

“I-I think I’m gonna be sick” she pushed him off her and sprinted to the bathroom.

She got to the bathroom just in time.

Russell followed her there and held her hair back as she threw up, this time was more intense than the last

She cursed softly and stood up heading to the small sink to brush her teeth

“Get your scarf and put on your shoes.” Russell said before he walked into the next room

“I’m taking you to the Hospital”

“Russell I’m fine, it’s probably just my period again”

“I don’t care Hayden”

“Well I do and I’m not going because that would be a waste of time” she spoke walking passed him

“Hayden I will carry you to that Hospital if I have to” he spoke gruffly and from the expression on his face she knew he meant business

“Fine” she snapped and walked to her closet, pulling out a pair of Jeans, sweater and her blue converse

Russell started to get dressed and then he walked out of her room

The nurse called for Hayden, and Russell went to the consultation room with her. The doctor was a middle-aged man, who was sitting behind his large desk. Hayden started feeling nervous and turned to Russell who smiled softly at her. She handed her cell phone and scarf to Russell, allowing the doctor to listen to her heart beat. Russell was sitting on the chair, waiting patiently for her. She sat next to him and he handed her scarf, while the doctor took his notes.

“So Miss Rivers, everything seems fine. You have a mild case of stomach flu and the nurse will give you some medicine for that,” The doctor said, in his German accent, looking up at her. A relieved expression swept over Russell’s face and he turned to Hayden who seemed a lot less angry with him.

“So she’ll be okay?” Russell asked.

The doctor smiled, “Don’t worry her and the baby are perfectly fine” he said, looking back down and writing a prescription. Russell looked at her, and she looked at the doctor.

“I’m not pregnant,” Hayden said, amused by his ridiculous notion.

“The tests we’ve done show that you are” The doctor said.

“But that’s impossible...” Hayden said, the colour washing out of her face. Russell seemed to have drifted into a different world.

Hayden was sitting in the car, fiddling with the sleeves of her sweater .Russell hadn’t said anything and still had an unreadable expression on his face. “Say something...” Hayden said. He looked at her, but still didn’t say anything. “Russell you’re not the one who’s pregnant” she said, cringing at the sound of the word.

“I don’t know what to say,” he said chortling.

“Say anything.” Hayden said, annoyed and confused. Russell seemed to be deep in thought and just turned back to the road. “Do you think I wanted this now Russell?” she said her voice louder than before. “I’m only 20. I wanted to be successful and settled before I had a baby. I had dreams and ambitions... things I wanted to achieve before I had a kid.” Hayden felt the tears that had been waiting to come out pour out of her eyes.

“You think I didn’t want all that Hayden? I did!” Russell said now turning to her.

“You’re not the one carrying the child Russell!” Hayden interjected.”I’m the one who will have to stop going to school, not you. I’m the one whose belly will grow to the size of Antarctica not yours”

“You’re right I’m not the one carrying the child...” Russell said, “But that doesn’t mean it won’t affect me”

“I didn’t make myself pregnant Russell,” Hayden said. She was upset and the tears were just spilling out of her eyelids. “But I am”

“What do you want me to say Hayden?” Russell said, just as they stopped at traffic lights.

“Don’t say anything in fact, I’ll raise it myself.” Hayden was fuming and swung the car door open, running off into the rain. Russell called her name but she didn’t stop. He eventually had to move due to hooting cars.

Hayden managed to get a bus back to her apartment and she opened her door roughly interrupting a very obscene make out session Mark was having on their sofa

“Hayden?”He yelled walking towards her room. When he got there she was packing her clothes

Hayden had found herself pulling out a bag and starting to pack. What was happening? How could this have happened? The questioning thoughts brought more tears to her eyes; she was more alone than ever. She started sobbing, her tears hot. She cried her eyes out, the sounds she was making, low in her room. She wiped her tears, with the ends of her sweater. Every time she tried to regain composure, her tears returning. She sat there bawling her eyes out until she saw Mark

“Hayden? What the hell is going on? W-why you packing” he asked worried

She didn’t stop and continued to stuff more clothes into her duffle bag. She didn’t even know where she was going to go.

“Hayden, Hayden” he held her shoulders firmly making her face him “What happened?”

“I’m Pregnant” she spoke, tears rolling down her face

“Is it Russell’s-?”

“Yes Mark, how could you even ask me that?”

“I’m sorry-”

“Mark can you excuse us for a minute” Hayden heard the deep voice she was avoiding to hear

They both turned and found a very angry looking Russell leaning against her door frame. What time did he even get in?

Hayden looked at Mark as if telling him to stay but when he tried to Russell gave him a look that dared him to even try. Mark gave her an apologetic look and walked out closing the door behind him.

Russell looked at her, observing her teary eyes and flushed face. She was the person he loved the most and he had hurt her immensely.

“You’re not leaving Hayden”

“Yes I am. I don’t need your help raising this baby Russell. It will have a mother, a father isn’t compulsory” she sniffled walking to her vanity

 “Hayden don’t be ridiculous”

“Ridiculous? Russell you don’t want this child” she told him shakily

“Let me go Russell” Hayden said, trying to free her wrist. His strong grip held onto her.

Russell pulled her closer to him and she resisted but he wrapped her arms round her, and she started bawling her eyes out, the hot tears hitting his coat.

The sound of her crying upset him a lot. “Hayden stop crying please” Russell pleaded but she still did, and only dropped her hands to his waist.

She still didn’t lift her head and just carried on crying. To be in pain was one thing, but to see the person he loved so much in pain was killing him. “Baby stop.” Hayden finally sniffled and looked at him. His grey eyes scanned her.

“I know I’m being selfish Hayden” He started “I don’t want to share you”

“I know but this is ours” she placed a hand on her flat stomach “We made this beautiful thing that’s growing inside of me” she continued

“You’re everything to me Hayden, I know sometimes I may not show it the way you want me to but you are” Russell said in a low husky voice; lifting her chin up. “Ti amo tesoro”

“We will get through it together” Hayden nodded and moved closer to him. She laid her head on his chest

“I love you” she said, looking up at him; her green eyes fixing on his grey ones.

He bent his head down giving her a kiss. She had never needed a kiss more. The soothing effect of his heart-warming kiss was just what she needed.

“You still didn’t answer my question” He gruffly spoke sending shivers down her spine.

Hayden looked up at him and smirked naughtily “I think I might need a little convincing”.
