Hayden had woken up to the sound of Russell shuffling about the room.
“Where are you going?” Hayden asked sitting up and watching Russell put on his grey sweats and sneakers
“I’m going to the gym, I need to release some stress” He said watching her rub her eyes softly. Hayden was still worried about him but knew he just needed some time “I’m sorry for waking you up”
“No, I was going to wake up anyway,” she said getting up. “Can I come with?”
“You want to work out with me?” he asked looking surprised.
“I’ll just watch,” she said, getting out of bed.
“You want to watch me get all sweaty, while my trainer yells at me?” he asked giving her a confused expression.
“Yeah, sounds like fun. I’ll be ready in 5” he gave her a curious look, and she went and took a shower. Hayden threw on some black shorts and a pink t-shirt that fit loosely. She then pulled on her converse and went to the kitchen where she found him having a big breakfast
“Are you sure you want to come?” he asked, still unsure of her intentions.
“Yeah, it’s not like I have anything better to do at 6 o’clock in the morning” she said looking into the fridge; she groaned looking in the empty fridge...What did he eat? She searched for something light and picked up a green apple.
She sat on top of the counter, chewing on her apple. Occasionally sneaking glances at Russell...How the hell did he look so good even when he wasn’t trying?
She watched him eat his breakfast and gulp down his juice
His large body stood up and he made his way towards her
“Can I have a bite?” he asked her and she nodded
His large hand circled around her wrist and he brought the apple to his lips and he took a big bite not moving his eyes from hers.
They arrived at the gym and then they went to the private room where he would be training with Mark
“Hayden” Hayden heard a gruff voice wheeze and looked up at the giant of a man.
“Morning” she answered
“Scott’s girl” he smiled widely
“Russell” he greeted and he got a nod back “The lawyers want to meet up later”
“I’m not interested” he answered pulling on his boxing gloves.
“Come on Russ, besides you don’t have a choice” Mark told him getting ready for the work out
“You can take a seat on that bench over there.” He said gesturing to the bench in the middle of the room.
“We’ll start with five minutes of boxing.” She watched as Mark held the target while Russell hit it repeatedly. “Come on Russell push! ... 3, 2, 1” Russell stopped hitting the target and wiped his face with the back of his glove. He looked tired but still determined.
“50 Sit-Ups, Let’s go!” She heard Mark yell to Russell, who lay down on a mat and started to them. He was so focused and had the sexiest expression on his face, suddenly she felt like she was the one who needed some water to cool down. “Come on Russell, 10 more! 9, 8.... Russell you’re being sloppy! Push for it!” She heard Russell groan, he had a frustrated look on his face and she could tell he was tired but he was still going. He finished off with ten extra, groaning for every single one, his deep groan filling her head with inappropriate thoughts
“50 push-ups and then we can have a break.” Mark said, but Russell didn’t get up.
“Come on, let’s go let’s go” Mark pressed
“Focus Russell” Mark said from the bench where she had sat. She gave him a shy smile
“48, 49, 50” she heard Mark call.
“You okay,” he said, looking at her. She just smiled and nodded.
“Weight lifting” Mark said ticking something on his note pad
Hayden decided maybe she could get a work out before school.
She was on the treadmill, working out when she spotted Russell across the gym, lifting weights. She observed the way his muscles tense and then relax with every push, the deep breaths he took and the way his grey gaze was fixed on the ceiling. He looked so sexy. Hayden was busy paying attention to Russell she accidentally pushed a random button the tread mill.
The machine accelerated at an un-bearable pace and Hayden found herself sprinting to try and keep up to the pace she started hitting random buttons to try and make it slow down, but it just got faster and faster and faster, until...
Hayden found herself on the gym floor, lying flat and staring at the ceiling. Did she actually just fly off that machine? Hayden looked up and still heard the sound of the treadmill running until it became quiet all of the sudden.
Hayden was surprised by the tall figure that towered over hers. “Are you okay?” the man asked.
“Yeah, I’m just stretching” Hayden said. Thank goodness Russell didn’t see that.
“Really because I could have sworn I saw you fly off that treadmill.” He said holding a hand out to her. Hayden laughed taking his hand and allowing him to pull her off. She stumbled a little bit and his hand held her waist, thus helping her up. “Are you sure you’re okay?” he inquired.
“Yeah, I’ll just sit down and have a bottle of water.” Hayden said, the embarrassment had to stop here. The guy wouldn’t let go have her waist.
“I’ll go get you a cool bottle” the guy said, going off before she had a chance to answer. Hayden turned round to check how Russell was doing with the weights. She was startled to find his grey gaze on her. He seemed to have just finished with the weights and he looked pretty tired; but more so angry? Hayden gave Russell a questioning look but was interrupted by the guy returning with her bottle.
Hayden was taking a sip when the guy decided to pull a strand of hair off her face. Hayden ducked away laughing to make it seem less awkward. Things were getting very uncomfortable. “Could you hold this one second?” Hayden said bending and pretending to tie her shoelaces, she would have gotten up if she still wasn’t kind of lightheaded from her flight.
She was doing that when she saw a pair of familiar Nike shoes. “Sorry who are you?” Russell’s husky voice said.
“Sorry?” The guy responded. Hayden looked up and noticed an aggressive expression on Russell’s face.
“Why are you insisting on touching my girlfriend?” Russell questioned.
“I was just holding her water bottle” the guy said slyly.
“I’ll hold it for her now, you can leave.” Russell snatched the bottle out of the guy’s hand with military force.
“Watch it dude.” The guy said stepping closer to Russell.
“Watch what?” Russell said taking a step closer too. Sometimes Hayden questioned the size of his ego.
“Russell” Hayden said, putting a hand on his chest. His grey eyes fell to hers and she tried to calm his agitation. “Let’s just go,” she said pulling his wrist towards the locker room.
“Your boyfriend is an asshole.” Was what the guy decided was the best thing to say at a time like that. Russell took a step towards him, his eyes fixed on his.
“Do you have something to say?” Russell said through gritted teeth.
“You’re an asshole, your little girlfriend was all for it. You should check who else she’s been opening her legs for.” Russell’s wrist left Hayden’s grip and he swung. Hayden hated to see fights and watched the guy crumple to the ground Hayden tried to pull Russell away before he swung again, and she managed to pull him to the locker room, while the other guy carried on talking from the ground.
Russell tried to turn back, but Hayden was trying in her best efforts to stop him. Russell walked through the locker room to a very far corner and punched a locker, the sound of the impact on the metal ringing through Hayden’s ears. “Calm down Russell” Hayden tried to interject but she was instantaneously pinned up against the locker. The dark flare in Russell’s eyes was so deep and unusual it was starting to get to her.
Russell didn’t speak and just kissed her hard.
“Russell I don’t like it when you fight,” Hayden said and he turned to face her. “I don’t care what has been said or done; I just don’t want anything to happen to you” Hayden said
Nothing’s going to happen, I can take care of myself, and I need to take care of you too.”
“No more fights okay?” Hayden said looking up at him. He nodded yes and gave her a small kiss. He was sure they would be more fights because he didn’t know how to let things slide.
Russell pulled her out of the locker room. He watched her while she picked up her IPod, which flew across the room along with her when she fell off the treadmill. Keeping his eyes on the guy he’d punched who was now an ice pack to his face. Russell ushered her out of the gym, holding her waist and keeping close to him.
“Don’t forget about the car wash this weekend” Talia shouted from one of the desks
“Gosh, gag me with a spoon” Sam rolled her eyes playing with the rings on her fingers
“I thought you wanted to go?”
“I did but a person can change their minds” she smiled eating her salad “So I heard about Russ, he ok?” she asked
“Yeah he is, he has a meeting today so yup”
She nodded her head and resumed eating her salad “You guys practically live together” she chuckled
“I know but it’s not like he has asked me to move in with him” she answered “Officially”
“Aww I’m positive he will” she smiled
“Are you guys going to be at the car wash?” Talia asked walking around with a bucket to place some change
They looked at each other “Yeah, we will be there” Sam answered
Hayden hadn’t seen Jade and Peyton in a while but she wouldn’t have expected their friendship to turn out this way not that she wasn’t grateful for Sam.
“Will Russell be there?” she asked
“I don’t know” Hayden answered curious as to why she was asking
“Okay” she chirped and walked over to the table where she and a few other girls including Jade were seated. Since when did she start hanging out with the ‘brain dead’ as she would call them
“I am so glad that school closes this Friday” Sam smiled “It’s only Tuesday and I hate it with a strong passion”
“I hear you; I am just excited for the art class I will be starting”
“I thought you started that yesterday?”
“I was supposed to but I decided to start over the holiday”
“Speaking of yesterday, mind telling me where you snuck off to?”
“I was just with Russell” she answered shyly
Sam let out a loud laugh catching the entire cafeteria is attention
“Sorry” she whisper/yelled
“You are so cute” she pinched Hayden’s cheeks only for her hands to be smacked away
“You and Russell have sex and you still act like a virgin and dress like a 12 year old” she giggled. Hayden took no offense to her mockery because that was just Sam
“First off I have seen your underwear drawer” she laughed “Even my 12 year old cousin doesn’t where those undies you have. Do you even own a thong?” she laughed turning pink “You don’t want to bore Russell”
Hayden hadn’t really thought about it but she slowly started feeling embarrassed the more she thought about it.
“Yes I do” she whispered turning red
“Really?” Sam raised an eyebrow
“Yes really” Hayden answered quickly wanting the whole conversation to be over
“Well I’m going shopping tomorrow, we can go together”
Hayden nodded now deep in thought...
Did she bore him?
Russell looked around the room that was filled with different men in suits. He adjusted his tie and leaned back into the seat
“Due to very peculiar circumstances, we are here to discuss the will of Chad De Luca” the stubby man coughed, adjusting his spectacles.
He didn’t want to be there but Mark let him know it was compulsory
“It says here that everything he owned; houses, cars, businesses will be given to Russell De Luca”
Russell was shocked but wanted nothing to do with it
“What happens if I don’t accept it?” he asked
“Everything will be given to charity” he replied, hostility laced in his voice.
“Think about it Russ” Mark pressed
“I don’t want anything that had to do with that fucker” he snapped
“The money has already been transferred into your account” The stubby man informed him
“He was sick Russ” Mark decided to tell him
“I don’t give a fuck; he should have gotten the help he needed”
Him being sick wasn’t an excuse to kill her. Russell was angry with himself for not realising it sooner.
“Think about it kid, this is a big opportunity” another man told him
Russell stood up “Are we done here?”
Mark nodded and they both stood up and walked out.
“You said he would take the bait” a deep voice spoke
“He will take it, just give it time. There is no boss at the moment” another voice answered
“I’m losing my patience. Wouldn’t this be the time to strike?”
“No, it would be too obvious; look he is just 19 and won’t be able to handle all that Chad left and then we can make our move as he starts to slowly crumble”
“You see this is exactly why I picked you to work for me”
They clinked glasses and chuckled.
