30. Chapter 30

“What the fuck do you guys want?” Russell asked, Hayden was taken aback by the tone of his voice but his best friends didn’t seem fazed

The smiles on their faces wiped off completely “Boss is in hospital, it’s very serious Russ”

“What? How? What happened” Russell asked getting dressed quickly, placing his gun in the back of his jeans

Hayden knew that was her queue to give them space to talk and she quickly started making her way outside avoiding eye contact with everyone.

Russell’s fingers caught her by the elbow and she secured the material she held against her chest

“I-I’ll be outside” she gave him a reassuring smile and walked out.

“What the hell happened?” Russell demanded

“He went for a meeting; he called it personal so he said he didn’t need backup”

Russell sat on the stool and brushed his hands through his hair and face

“Mark received a phone call from a man informing him that Boss had been shot multiple times” Elliot continued

Mark was Chad is sidekick you could say, he knew everything about Chad and he was also Russell’s personal trainer .The best.

“We need to go to the hospital now, we tried calling you but you didn’t pick up”

His phone was probably still at Hayden’s house

“Let’s go” Was the only thing Russell said, ignoring the concerned looks he was receiving.

They made their way outside and found Hayden sitting on the hood of his truck

“Take her back home” Russell ordered Elliot who simply nodded his head

“What? No” she got off the car

“Hayden” He said her name in a deep drawl that should have given her enough warning to drop it.

“I’m going with you” she told him

“Like hell you are”

“I’m not leaving you” she told him sternly and he narrowed his eyes on her, his jaw clenching .she could be so stubborn sometimes

“Take my car you get there faster” Mike said tossing keys at Russell. She had never seen Mike driving because they normally arrived in school together in Russ is truck “Keep us posted”

“He drives a sports car?” Hayden mumbled to herself

They got into the car and just like that Russell sped off.

She knew that this man was important to him even though she was yet to find out the story behind him, she wasn’t sure if asking him them would be a big mistake or not

“I can hear you think Bambi” he spoke not taking his eyes off the road

She licked her dry lips “Boss...i-is he the guy you kill for and fight for?”she couldn’t ask him the last time because she cried when he told her a small snippet of his past

“Yes” he answered cut and dried “His the man who adopted me when I was 15”

“Is that when you started um” she couldn’t finish her sentence

“Killing? Yes” he answered oh so bluntly.

The rest of the ride to the hospital was quiet.

The smell of hospitals was revolting to Hayden and always made her queasy.

They walked to the front desk and the nurse who was working smiled up at Russell. Hayden wanted to claw her eyes out

“Chad De Luca” Russell answered

“You family?” she asked

“Something like that”

“You know we have a family Policy” she told him “But I could let you go in for an exchange” was she being serious?

Russell walked past the desk with Hayden’s hand in his, ignoring the woman calling him back and threatening to call security

Two large men were standing outside the room door and as soon as they recognised Russell they opened the door

Hayden walked in behind Russell like a scared kitten, she looked at the bed and a large man laid there with his eyes shut, tubes up his nose.

There was a large bold man standing by his bedside

"What happened?"

"He just said he had some business to attend to. He said it was harmless and he didn't need back up even though I insisted" Mark explained

“Mark, how bad” was all Russell asked

“He is on life support Russ” he answered “he left you this” he handed him an envelope

Russell clutched the envelope tightly

“Who’s this?” the man asked and his gazed shifted to Hayden

“Hayden” she introduced herself

“Mark” he introduced himself and looked at Russell “You’ve gotten yourself a pretty one”

Hayden blushed and looked somewhere else

“I’ll let you read that” he excused himself “Why don’t we go get some coffee” he told Hayden but she shook her head

“I want to stay with him”

Mark suppressed a grin and left

They took seats and he opened the envelope and a few papers fell on to the Hospital floor. She picked them up and noticed one had his name written on it with a picture attached of a woman and boy. Maybe that was Chad’s family

“I’m right here” she told him, smiling at him and she kissed him quickly

Russell leaned into the seat and started reading the note.

She watched his face as he read the letter with so much focus, his eyebrows furrowed and then his jaw clenched tightly

“No” he said and kept on repeating it. His breathing became heavy and his hands clutched the note tightly

“What’s wrong?” she asked him noticing the angry look that was taking over his face. He dropped the note and picture on the floor and stood up walking towards Chad

Hayden quickly picked up the papers he dropped and quickly scanned through the letter

Her hand covered her mouth, silencing her gasp; He left him all of his money and confessed to being Russell’s father. She looked at the picture again of the woman bending down; kissing her little boy. Russell was the little boy

She was snapped out of her thoughts by something smashing in the room

Russell was throwing around anything that he could find, his anger getting the better of him.

“Russell” Hayden called his name but he was far gone and all he could see was red. He had been with the man who murdered his mother cold heartedly all this time? He had allowed himself to open up to a monster. He took his mothers beautiful life away from both her and him

He clutched his hospital gown in his fists tightly

“Russell stop” Hayden tried removing him but was failing

“You, you took her from me. What did she ever do but be a good mother and wife? Huh?”He spat shaking his body ,his deep angry voice filling the room.

She couldn’t see the large men standing at the doors anymore

“Russell, please” Tears were now falling down Hayden’s face

“Wake up and face me like a man you piece of shit” he screamed and Hayden flinched

“He-He took every memory” he sobbed “I hope you get every single thing you deserve you son of a bitch, burn in hell” and before she could do anything he turned off the life support machine and broke down

Hayden walked towards him and wrapped her arms around him

She held on to him and they fell to the floor. It was déjà vu except this time she would be his rock.
