Before Albus, Rose, Cleo and James could believe, it was last lesson on a Friday afternoon. The first week back had been hectic for everyone, with homework for almost every lesson and midnight astronomy lessons up in the tower, the four friends had hardly any time to stop and just enjoy the weeknights in this magnificent castle.
Once the final bell had rung to signal the beginning of what the others suspected would be a very eventful weekend, the four met in the corridor next to the Great Hall and walked arm in arm up to Hagrid's Hut, their stomachs begging for the awaiting food and loosening their ties as the go. When they finally reached his Hut, just before the Forbidden Forest, Rose skipped to the large oak door and rapped her knuckles against it three times. A few seconds past, then creaking and shuffling could be heard before the door was opened to show a still tall, still shaggy-bearded, still smiling Rubeus Hagrid. His eyes were surrounded by crows feet and wrinkles and his beard and hair was now an ash grey, with only hints of the jet black it used to be. Behind him sat a substantially sized Alsatian dog, it's black eyes shining in the afternoon sun and his tail wagging excitedly, Laurel, Hagrid's dog of 7 years. He was heartbroken when Fang died, so after mourning filled the hole with another being to love. After being told he could not tame a dragon, Laurel was his second choice.
"Well 'ello you lot!" He beamed, his face lighting up at the sight of them, reminding him of the afternoons long ago where three close friends would visit, laugh, console each other and evidently give away too much information. He even missed the accidental blabbing, and to know that perhaps the memories could be made again filled him with joy. "Come on in, I've made cakes!" The four students rolled their eyes, they had been warned about Hagrid's cakes, and went in with a game strategy of how to make the illusion that they had been eaten.
Laurel barked, running around excitedly at the prospect of visitors.
"So, " Hagrid breathed, sitting down with a pot of tea and a plate of rock cakes. "How's Hogwarts?" Hagrid scanned the room with his black beady eyes, then showed a look of confused once he came across Cleo.
Rose quickly spotted this and interrupted his thoughts.
"This is Cleo, that girl we've written to you about? You said she was alright to come?"
Hagrid suddenly jumped and his eyes lit up. "Oh yeah, yeah it's fine. The more the merrier, eh?" Cleo smiled, she had a feeling she would like Hagrid.
Hagrid began to pour a cup of tea for each of them. "So, who're your parents then?"
Cleo took a bite of a cake, then instantly tried to hide her horror, whilst attempting to answer him.
"Seamsus Finigun un Kahe Behl." With the cake beginning to stick her teeth together, Cleo was finding it hard to communicate.
With Hagrid still finding it hard to hear after Cleo's numerous goes at speaking, James came in and repeated what she was trying to say, leaving them all in fits of laughter at their previous situation.
After a few hours, only 4 cakes and many, many cups of tea, the four friends had to bid Hagrid farewell, and head back down to the castle to get ready for their evening meal. As Hagrid stood in his front door to wave them off, he thought of how overjoyed he was that the Dark Lord had fallen, because he knew only too well that without that, none of these four kids would exist, the world as he knew it would be completely different and he too would probably be dead. But, most of all, he counts his lucky stars that when he carried a limp body out of the Forbidden Forest 19 years ago, that it was all a prank, and he had not carried the dead body of a beloved friend who meant more to him than almost everything else.
