It was finally lunchtime, and it was quite sunny outside. We knew that Opal and Caitlin wouldn't want to sit outside but we did. So Lucy, Natasha, Sophie, Emily and I quickly bought our lunches and headed out to sit in the gardens beside the pond.
A gentle breeze blew through trees, keeping the warm temperature bearable; this was my favourite weather and to sit indoors would have been to waste it.
A conversation started between the five of us which was nice because normally there were two of three conversations going on at once when we sat with Opal, Caitlin, Addison and Yasmin in the canteen.
We lay back, stomachs full with food and watched the little ducklings learning to swim with their mother.
"I'm so glad we managed to get out here without Opal following us." I faced back to the girls. Lucy looked serious, "Well she gave me a really dirty look as I walked past the table." She pulled a face trying to imitate Opal.
We burst into laughter for a few minutes before lapsing back into the comfortable silence. "I think now that we've tried to get away she's going to be even more controlling and make sure she knows where we're going at ALL times." Natasha said looking around the group with a grave face. We nodded solemnly.
"I guess that's life." I shrugged absent mindedly.
Opal wasn't going to be happy. They hadn't showed up for lunch, but she said that she had seen them in the canteen buying food. Addison and Yasmin appeared at the table carrying their plates of food. "Do you know where Brielle, Natasha and all them ones are?" Opal asked, a suspicious look fleeting across her round face. Addison shook her head as she began eating, "Nope," she replied carelessly. Yasmin turned to Opal with a worried expression. "I haven't seen them, not even in the line for food. They didn't have to go to any meetings or anything, did they?" she queried. "I bet ya they're sitting outside, wee brats." Opal scoffed, her defined eyebrows knitted together in a stubborn look.
I quietly ate my sandwiches, tuna, my favourite! I began to drift off, thinking where they could be. Maybe I have some money on my account and I could buy a cookie...
"Caitlin! Hello? Earth to Cate!" I turned to see them all staring my way. "Hmm?" I raised my eyes from my food. "We're leaving now. Yasmin and Addison need they're PE bags from the bagdrop." Opal said matter of factly.
Raising myself from my seat, I swung my bag onto my shoulder and quickly made my way after their retreating backs.
