"What's going on, Sparks? How is she?" Tony asked leaning on the doorway without Emma.
I was sitting right next to our youngest daughter, who was laying on the gurney, still out cold.
I looked out of the glass wall to see Emma sitting down with her back turned to me. She was shaking. And iron kept on shimmering and changing around her. Then her red hair shot up and an electricity volt ran through her and up into the ceiling. She was losing it.
Happy left the room, going to check on the security.
I wasn't paying any attention to what Doctor Sparks had to say and the only thing that brought me out if my pensive thoughts was Tony's yelp.
"What?!" I demanded.
"She may not be able to use her arm any more. If she wasn't born with those nanites I gave to us, she could have lost the entire arm." Tony whispered, coming to kneel next to Ammie and I.
"Oh. My. Gosh!" I gasped.
"I know. I'm scared, Pepper. I've never been this afraid. Not since Mandarin. What are we going to do?" He whimpered, refusing to let his tears fall.
"I don't. I'm not. I don't know." I stuttered. Just as afraid as he was.
And then I felt a surge of hurt and guilt and sadness takeover my body. Tony felt it too. We gasped and I fell forward, gripping the gurney for support while Tony somehow toughed it out. Men. I'll never get them.
"Emma!" I shrieked, standing up and running out of the room without a second thought.
Tony made to follow me and then looked back at Ammie and couldn't. I nodded my head and left them, looking around frantically for my daughter.
She was gone. But I could feel her. Her emotions, and her powers.
I found her hiding in the women's bathroom crying her eyes out with everything locked and electricity and pulser rays shooting out of her in every which way possible.
"Sweetie? I know you're in there... Will you let me in?" I called out softly.
I was met with deafening silence. And then there was a huge BANG! And the door and wall exploded in front of me.
~Tony Edward Stark~
There was a huge explosion. And my immediate thought was to protect my family. Feeling guilty, I locked Amelia's room and barricaded her in. Safe for now.
Next was Emma and Pepper. I activated my nanites and took to the air, calling Rhodie, Bruce, Clint, and Cap.
My hospital was under attack!
I was barking orders out to my team and searching for my wife and daughter fervently.
I found Pepper laying in her iron suit in the debris of the explosion. She at least was able to activate her nanites. Thank God!
I walked into the room that the explosion seemed to have come from. It came from the women's restroom? Different. Definitely different.
Then I heard the sobbing. It had to be Emma, it only made sense. I went into over drive and started sifting through the explosion to try and find her. I threw things all over the place, searching, hoping to find my daughter.
"EMMA!!" I screamed, lifting the mask from my face and calling for her, praying she could hear me.
The sobs grew deeper and louder. "Daddy!" I heard.
And then I found her. She was in a stall, untouched by the explosion and the debris from it.
"Emma!" I gasped, relieved to see her and made to pull her into my arms.
She resisted, pulling away and folding into herself.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt? Let me see!" I exclaimed.
"NO!" She snapped. "I...I'm not hurt... Ammie is... And I..I..ts my fault!" She blurted out, blubbering.
"But you were just attacked!"
"No. That was my fault. I let my emotions run wild." She whispered.
"Okay...." I said, trying to get closer to her, like one would to grab a runaway dog.
"I'm SORRY!" She screamed and then launched herself at me, making me stagger.
She was bawling her eyes out on me. I put away my armor and pulled her closer.
Seventeen years later and my children are still the most important things in my life other than their mother.
"It's okay. It's not your fault. Things happen. You couldn't have known she'd punch the glass." I said in a attempt to sooth her.
"But I had...h..heer... Scre...www...dri...veeerrr...set!"
"I know. It's okay. But, remember, it is NOT your fault."
She slowly stopped crying.
And then Hawkeye ran up behind me, stopped and was panting extremely loudly. "Did we get here on time?"
And Cap and WarMachine looked at him and then hit him on the back of the head at the same time. Bruce just shook his head and was helping Pepper up.
"What happened?" Clint asked, recovering from his "workout".
"Emma lost control." I sighed.
"What? Why'd she do that? Why are you guys even here?" He asked me, completely confused.
"Ammie punched her hand through glass and the glass shredded through her ligaments and hit an artery. She's been out of surgery for about an hour now." Pepper said.
"Wow. You okay, pipsqueak?" Clint asked Emma.
She shook her head no. And then broke down crying again.
Clint looked stricken. He toddled backwards, not knowing what to do.
"Come on, Hun. Let's leave your uncles and your dad to do what they do. And don't you worry about the hospital damage. We own this one." Pepper said, slowly prying Emma off of me.
And they left, to talk, I'm sure.
"What is going on, Tony?" Steve asked.
"Long story. Emma feels guilty about Ammie to put it short though."
They nodded their heads in understanding and we started to walk back to Ammie's room with me leading the way there.
I woke up and smelt something burning. And I felt groggy. The room was incredibly dark and dingy. And my arm was covered in stitches and wrapping.
Great. Just great.
I tried to move my fingers and I couldn't. But I could feel them trying to move. I must have too much on my arm to move it all that much.
I shrugged and started to rip these hospital tube things from my body and stood up. I could barely walk, so I used my pulser rays on my feet to help me.
Nobody was in here with me.
So, I see how they really feel about me. I thought darkly. Emma must've told them how stupid I was! No, she wouldn't. I know she wouldn't. Gosh! Why could they be gone?!
"Guys? Mom? Daddy? Emmy? Anyone?" I called out hoarsely.
"There's no one in here for you, love. Just you and I." A creepy voice with an attractive British accent spoke closely behind me.
I blushed. I was extremely embarrassed. I was stuck in one of those hospital gowns that are open for all the world and their brothers to see the back view of you. I slowly turned around, trying not to make it open any more than it already had.
"Who are you?" I asked shakily
"Can't you tell who I am?" He asked with a short chuckle.
"Love, I'm your soul mate." He said with a sinister smile.
