The Lullaby

"Let me teach you a lullaby Surei." He taught me a lullaby when we were little. Telling me that there is a special power behind the words. It has been ten years since I last saw him. I wonder how he is? The funny thing is that I never brought myself to actually sing the lullaby. If I sing it, what will happen to me?

My alarm needs to stop. I fling my hand towards the snooze bottom to unsuccessfully knock it down to the floor.

Oh my, now my alarm is becoming sassy with me. I sit up from my bed take a deep breath only to let a yawn to escape from my mouth. Today is going to be a long day.

I believe that I have already heard enough sass from you this morning. Tossing off my covers I drag myself out of my bed to properly turn off my alarm. Placing it back to the original spot on my night stand. I guess its time for the morning rituals; eat my bowl of cereal, brush my teeth, get dress, brush hair, and sneak on some mascara I secretly bought from the supermarket, and be out the door before my mother takes a long enough stare to notice the suddenly longer lashes. Today morning rituals went, well they went. Milk was spoiled so I turned to unsweetened almond milk which doesn't suit my taste buds, my hair decided to friz and I was clueless on finding a cure, then lets not forget my mother noticed my mascara causing a five minute lecture on how I am just beautiful without any makeup.

Now at school I am hoping that my day goes smoothly for me. Opening up my locker I shove my backpack into. No mess ups on my locker which is one good thing. No hiccups, today is Friday. Fridays are good days they are not Mondays. They are not, "Surei," I hear Arnold call out my name. I quickly shut my locker. The last time I left it open resulted in three missing dollars. "How is my little red skin?" I glare at him and began to walk away. This is Friday, I am not having my Friday ruin by him.

"Ah, come on!" he is calling out to me again, "Wait up!" he walked in front of me. Blocking my way through the halls and to make it worse the hallways are starting to fill up quick. I know that soon I am going to be packed in like a sardine, with Arnold no less. "I am sorry that I called you that." His face showed no remorse, he was just going through the motions, "Look I need some money." I shoved my way around him forcing myself through the crowd. He grab my hair, "Its so nice that you have some long hair to grab on to." I latched my own hand wrapping around my hair once to avoid any pain while pulling out of his grasp. One pull was enough this time with the only casualties of ten strands missing. I took a bolt down the hall.

I just need to get to the library. Once I am there I will be safe. I took a turn on the hallway, staircase staircase where are you? Why does my locker have to be on the second floor? I cursed at myself. Oh, there you are.

I took leaps off the steps, skipping three to four steps at a time. After the stairs I just have to make it down the hallway. I began to make a fast walk down the hallway. The halls are packed even down here. I took advantage of it, swerving in between people. I see the large glass door with the worn white letters across it. I am almost there. I -
