8. Chapter 8

Taylor’s POV

I honestly couldn’t believe it. Two miracles in one day. That has to be a record.

I stayed with Lily throughout the night because I didn’t want to leave her alone, and I knew how much this meant to her. To both of us, really. Liam was like a brother to me. With sleep fogging my vision, and my eyes threatening to close with every passing moment, I watched the telly. I didn’t want to fall asleep in case something happened.

I checked my phone to see what time it was. 2:00. I looked over at Lily to see her nodding off. I guess maybe I should, too, I thought to myself.

“Lily…” I heard someone whisper. It wasn’t me, and it wasn’t Lily. I looked over to see Liam lightly shaking her awake.

“Liam?” I quietly asked. His eyes met mine, smiled, then put his finger to his lips, motioning for me to be quiet. I nodded my head in return, my eyes no longer tired.

Lily’s eyes slowly opened and adjusted to the dark. I turned on a dim lamp so we could all see better. “Liam?” she asked. His big brown eyes stared at her. “Liam!” she exclaimed. She quickly jumped up and hugged him.

“I’ll go get a nurse,” I said, letting them have their moment as I slipped out of the room.

As soon as I stepped out, I got on my phone to call Harry. I found a nurse, and she ran to Liam’s room.

“Harry!” I whisper screamed into the phone when he answered.

“Taylor? It’s two in the morning what do you want?” he asked groggily.

“Come to the hospital with the boys! Liam’s awake!” At that, Harry perked up. I could almost hear his excitement.

“Zayn! Get up! Liam’s awake!” I heard Harry yell.

“What?” A tired and confused Zayn asked. The call then ended as Harry went to wake up Niall.

I tiptoed to Louis’ room to get him up. Softly knocking on the door, I entered. There slept Louis, looking as peaceful as ever. I walked to the side of his bed, and started brushing his hair out of his face. “Louis…” I whispered. His eyes fluttered open, looked around the room, then smiled when he spotted me.

“Hey,” he whispered back. He took my hand in his, and we smiled at each other.

“Liam’s awake,” I told him.

He gasped. “Can I see him?”

“In the morning,” I answered. “You get discharged in the morning and then we can go, okay?”

“Okay,” he said, smiling. We fell asleep together in his room, until morning when the doctor came in to discharge Louis.

“You’ll be in a wheelchair for a while, you’ll have frequent checkups, but you can have the IV taken out now.” A nurse slipped the needle out from his arm, then the two helped him into a wheelchair. I checked the time to see it was ten already.

“Alright, Taylor, he’s all yours,” the doctor said. “Three days is his first check up, and then we’ll see from there.”

“Thank you, sir,” I responded, grabbing onto the wheelchair handles. We exited the room, and I pushed Louis to Liam’s room. Louis pushed open the door, and Niall quickly pulled it open to let us in.

“Louis!” he exclaimed with a big smile.

“Niall!” Louis answered in the same way, mocking him.

“Louis!” Liam yelled.

“Liam!” Louis yelled back. I pushed him over to Liam so they could talk, and I helped support Louis so he could hug Liam. “Be careful right there, yeah, okay, thanks,” Louis said to me so I wouldn’t touch his wound. They hugged, and Louis quickly fell back into his chair. It was still hard for him to stand.

“How are you?” Liam asked.

“Same as you. Been shot.”

“How long have you been out of the hospital?”

“I haven’t been outside yet. I get to go home today.”

“That’s good. Taylor, how’ve you been?”

“Oh, you know Liam. Just causing all kinds of trouble these days,” I answered. He laughed at my response.

“Liam, I’d really like to stay and talk, but I really need something to eat. Taylor? Would you like to join me?” Louis asked, looking up at me with puppy dog eyes.

“Let’s go,” I said, smiling and ruffling his hair. “Liam, we’ll be back later. Anyone want anything?”

“I’ll come get some cereal with you,” Harry said, following us and closing the door behind him. So, there we were, the three amigos, one girl who looked like a wreck, one boy in a wheelchair, and one boy who was absolutely exhausted. Just your average teenagers.
