It’s only a matter of time before Louis wakes up. It comes as a surprise, actually, because I started to lose hope.
So, here I am, sitting in Louis’ room with Lily and the boys. Liam is being watched by a nurse, and she said she’d call us if anything happen, but underneath her smile I could tell she doubted something would happen.
Our attention is occupied by the telly, but only the news is on, so I’m not really listening. My thoughts have been everywhere lately. I’m sitting close to Louis, while the others are closer to the telly. My hand is resting on his bed, when I suddenly hear something- it sounded like someone just sighed. The others are too far away; it sounded really close. I raise my eyebrows in confusion as I turn towards Louis. I see his right eye slowly open and it lands on me.
“Louis?” I whisper, loud enough for only him to hear. My jaw drops in complete shock. I feel something warm sweep over my hand, and then it rests on it. His other eye slowly opens, and they both focus on me.
“Hello, Love,” a raspy voice says. That’s when I see, out of the corner of my eye, four heads snap around. A tear rolls down my cheek. “Don’t just sit there, Love. Kiss me.”
“Louis…” I get up from my chair, and I lightly kiss him on the lips. He smiles when I pull away.
“It feels good to be back. What did I miss?” he asks the boys.
“Louis!” Harry yells, jumping up and racing to the bed. He pushes me out of the way, causing me to stumble a bit. Niall and Zayn rush to the other side of the bed to see Louis. I notice Lily still in her chair, and I motion her to meet me in the hallway.
Five minutes later, we sit in the hallway, our backs on the wall, ignoring the fact that there are chairs next to us.
“Lily…” I heavily breathe out, leaning my head back on the wall. I close my eyes. “I know...I know this is hard. It hurt me, too. Liam is like a brother to me, but I want you to know that I’m here for you.”
Lily, who also has her head against the wall, sighs as a tear escapes her red eyes. I pull her into a hug. She rests her head on my shoulder.
“We’ve always had each other’s back, right?” I ask, feeling her nod against me.
“Louis is like my brother, too,” she says. I smile at that.
“So, do you think you can put a smile on for him?” I ask.
“Yeah.” She lifts herself off of me, and pushes to stand up. She extends a hand to help me up.
“Thanks, Lily.” We hug.
The room is full of talking and laughing when we open the door.
“Lily!” Louis exclaims, as loud as he can, his voice still a bit rough. “Give me a hug!” Lily walks over to him, smiling a real smile.
“It’s good to have you back,” Lily tells him.
“I’m really happy to see you all again!” He smiles, looking around at everyone. “Hey, how’s Liam been? Where is he?”
Everyones’ smiles quickly disappear.
