Clink! I rolled over in my bed in an unconscious stupor. Clink! I opened my right eye to see the light orange glow of my room from the afternoon sun streaming throughout the cracks in the blinds. Clink! Fully awake this time, I lurched myself from bed, startling Chloe in the process. I gave a reassuring scratch behind the ears when the "Clink!" came again. I turned to my balcony as yet another "Clink!" answered my question as to where the noise was coming from. I opened the balcony door and allowed my sleepy eyes to adjust to the glowing of the setting sun. Just then, a pebble the size of a gum drop hit me square in between my eyes.
"Ouch!" I exclaimed as I tried to find where my attacker was located.
"Addie," I heard my name from directly below my balcony. Expecting it to be Chad I was getting ready to find something to throw at him while I yelled every foul name in the book at him. As I shuffled closer to the railing I realized that it was none other then my goofy best friend.
"Zoey!" I yelled. "What time is it?" "What are you doing here?" "You woke me up from my nap and then hit me in the face with a pebble," I rambled on grumpily.
"Sorry about the rock, I didn't hear the door open and its your fault for not answering your phone," she said as she climbed up the rose trellis that grew next to my balcony. Ugh roses. Ive been meaning to tell my dad to put orchids there. I smirked a little as I watcher her climb the trellis for two reasons. One, my best friend is clumsy as hell and I don't know why she didn't just use the front door and two this reminded me of Romeo and Juliet when he climbs up to her balcony.
"I shut my phone off what do you want," I asked wanting to know why my slumber had to be disturbed.
"I wanted to see how my best friend was holding up," she said as she climbed over the balcony railing.
"Why didn't you just use the front door?" I questioned
"Because it was locked and your the only one home I guess cause I rang the door bell five times."
"Oh I didn't hear it," I rubbed the already forming bruise where the rock hit me.
"And I made cupcakes," she said as she offered me a tray.
"If you made them, I think I'll pass," I said remembering what an awful cook she is.
"Relax Elyssa baked them, I just decorated."
Well in the case," I smiled and carried the tray into my room. Elyssa was Zoey's little sister and man could she bake. Brownies, cakes, cookies, you name it. In fact, she was so good I nickname her little Betty Crocker.
"I told her about the break up so she made you favorite," Zoey said as I took a still warm cupcake form the tray. They really were my favorite, confetti vanilla cupcake which was simple but the decorating was the best part. The icing was bright ocean blue, crumpled cookie made up the sand, colorful sprinkle fish scattered on the blue frosted ocean and a cute umbrella that waiters put Piña Coladas and other fruity drinks.
"Thanks," I smiled and hugged Zoey.
"Well the best way to get over a breakup is to stuff your face with your best friend," she grinned and took a big bite of her cupcake, getting blue frosting all over her face. I giggled and wiped the frosting from her face. She always knew how to make me feel better, from the first day I met her in 7th grade English.
"I just don't want to see the Jerkwad at school tomorrow, " I said as I took a bite of the cupcake.
"Don't worry Addie," she reassured me. "Tomorrow is the last day of our Junior year and if we see him I will surely say something to him and his little beaver."
I snorted at our nickname for that girl Ashley that Chad is always with.
"This is going to be the best Summer yet. I promise," she said hugging me. I sighed and hoped to God that she was right
