17 year old, Shadow is an awkward and sweet girl. She's a huge tomboy and loves sports. Her best friend is a girl named Kristy. Kristy is an outgoing girl who does everything to keep Shadow happy. Kristy is in a class with a cute boy named Ashton. One day at a school soccer game, Kristy brings Shadow to meet him after the game since he plays soccer. Will Kristy be his girlfriend or will Shadow? Kristy loves him to death and Shadow is interested in him, but at first she just wants to be friends. Will Ashton tear their friendship apart by accident? Will they support each other? Will Ashton fall in love with Shadow?

1. OMG! You can see!

I hated school and almost every girl in it except Kristy. Although, one of my other friends, Grace, was such a sweet girl, but she was blind. I felt so bad for her. She lost her sight after her mother died. Grace was hospitalized after a robbery at her house. Her mother had been killed by knife and Grace had watched. She cried for days in the hospital. Her eyes were messed up after she was sliced over both eyes. Her father is the only one she has left and I'm the only one she trusts. I've known her for so long, since we were three and she's like a sister to me. Pick on me, that's one thing, but mess with her and you're dead.

"Shadow!" Kristy called.

"Hey. I need to wait for Grace." I said.

We stood and waited. She didn't come. I looked behind me and everyone was looking at  me. Everyone knew I was Grace's only friend.

"Shadow, haven't you heard? Grace was in a car crash yesterday." Some boy said.

I felt anger build up inside me and I clenched my fists. Tears of anger and sadness ran down my face.

"Shadow, are yo--" I cut Kristy off.

"Don't. You. Dare. Say. Crying." I said through clenched teeth.

She stopped and closed her mouth. I left the lunch room.

"Shadow, where are you going?" Kristy asked.

"None of your business." I snapped.

I left to go to my locker. I grabbed all my stuff and grabbed my change of clothes I always brought. I changed out of my school uniform and into a pair of ripped skinny jeans, a tight black T-shirt, my low rise black sneakers, and I threw on my blue beanie to top it all off. I grabbed my neon green schoolbag and left the school. I hopped into my convertible. I drove over to the hospital and went to Grace's room. She was awake and alright, thank god.

"Hey, Grace. it's me, Shadow." I said softly.

She looked towards my voice. Thank god she couldn't see me, I was crying. She knew it was very rare for me to cry. I hurried over and pulled her into a hug.

"I thought you were in school." She said in her soft, angelic voice.

"I was... I left. There's no way I could wait, Grace. You're a sister to me and when they told me you were here, I almost broke down. I was so worried and I couldn't stay." I said, sniffing.

"You're crying over me?" She asked.

"Of course I am." I said.

We hugged for along time.

"You have to make a promise." I said.

"What is it?" She asked.

"I need you to promise never to leave me, ever." I said.

She nodded.

"I won't want to leave when I have you." She said.

Tears streamed down my face.

"I'm glad you can't see how bad I look right now, but I wish you could see me." I said.

She smiled at me.

I fell asleep next to Grace.

"Shadow?" Someone asked.

"She's asleep." Grace said.

I heard Kristy's laugh.

"I see." She said.

I heard two pairs of footsteps.

"I know you can't see him, but this is Ashton. I was bringing him to meet Shadow, but he came with me to find her here." Kristy said.

I took a deep inhale through my nose and I sat up.

"What?" I yawned.

Grace laughed. Kristy tapped my shoulder. I turned and saw a super hot guy with her. I felt my heart flutter and my stomach filled with butterflies. He had shaggy auburn hair, he was tall, strong, and well... He was hot. I gave a super shy smile.

"Hi..." I said awkwardly and shyly.

I brushed a piece of my auburn hair behind my ear.

"Hi..." He said shyly and awkwardly.

My heart almost exploded.

"Shadow, this is Ashton. Aston, this is Shadow." Kristy said.

We gave a small nod at each other.

"If you don't mind me asking, can y'all please leave? I need to talk to Grace for a moment..." I said shyly.

They nodded and left. Ashton walked out and Kristy looked at me before leaving, smirking.

"It's ten at night, Grace. Are you ready to go to bed or no?" I asked.

"First," she smirked, "do you have a crush on Ashton or something? You're never that nice and shy."

I felt my cheeks get hot.

"Well... I... Uhhh... OK, yes, but please don't tell anyone." I said.

"I won't. And in response to your question, yes." She yawned.

"Would it make you feel more comfortable if I sang to you like I used to?" I asked.

She nodded as a tear escaped her eyes. I used to sing to her after her mom died.

"You've always had the best voice for singing and helping me." She said softly.

I smiled. I took a deep breath.

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window, darling,
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when music's gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
La La (La La)
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...

Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh oh oh.

I watched her for a moment in her sleep and smiled slightly. I stood up and kissed her forehead. I turned and left the room.

Ashton's POV:

Kristy stepped out after me.

"I think she has a crush on you." She said.

I felt my cheeks get warm.

"Naw, she probably doesn't." I said.

"I bet she does! I bet you like her." She smirked as she spoke.

I opened my mouth to speak, but we both turned to the door, hearing the most beautiful voice.

"Is that Shadow?" I asked.

"I don't know... She never sings... Grace is the only one who ever heard her." Kristy said.

I smiled a bit.

"Let's not tell her." I said.

Kristy nodded as Shadow walked out of the room, smiling slightly. We all walked out in silence, but my ankle was killing me. I had a wrap around my ankle underneath my jeans and it wasn't done well. I had wrapped it poorly. Shadow looked at me with her bright green eyes.

"Are you alright?" She asked.

I nodded, too nervous to speak.

Shadow's POV:

I walked into my bedroom full of sports gear, skateboards, posters, and stuff that no one knew about. Kristy and Ashton followed behind me. I wanted to cry because I wanted Grace here. Grace is the only one who knows the soft side of me. I let a tear slip out of my eye as I face planted onto my bed. Kristy sat beside me, frowning.

"Are you cr--" I cut her off.

"I don't cry, Kristy, you know that." I snapped.

She shut her mouth. I sighed and buried my face into my pillows. Ashton sat on my other side, completely quiet. A few more tears escaped my eyes and I couldn't help it. I started to cry.

"I've known her for so long and if anything happened to her, I'd blame myself. Kristy, you know she's a sister to me and you know she's everything to me! She's the only one who ever really knew me and understood me." I said with a small sob.

A feel a hand rub my back. Kristy.

"It's OK, Shadow." She said.

I sat up. "But it's not! You don't know her horrible history... I was the only one who wanted to be her friend and the only one she could trust. I was the only fucking one who she could talk to and I knew how to calm her down. I made her life less miserable and I love her to death." I said, tears running down my face like a speeding train.

Kristy hugged me and I let her. I hated it when people hugged me unless it was Grace. I finally pushed her off and remember that Ashton was behind me. I felt my cheeks burn like crazy. Kristy smirked at Ashton.

Ashton and I were talking. We became great friends in three days. I saw Grace and I ran at her, pulling her into a hug.

"Oh my god! I'm so glad you're OK!" I said.

I pulled away and she was smiling. Ashton started to talk to Kristy, knowing that this was important. I looked at her smiling face. Then I noticed her eyes weren't pale, they were more of a blue now. Her brown hair fell in front of them and she pushed it out of the way like it bothered her. She never did that. Then my brain started to scream at me. 'SHE CAN FUCKING SEE, YOU DUMBASS!' It screamed at me.

"You can see?" I asked.

Her smile grew as she nodded.

"Oh my god!" I said. I grabbed her hand and dragged her over to Ashton and Kristy.

"Who are they?" She asked nervously.

"Kristy and Ashton." I replied.

"Oh!" She said.

We stopped in front of them.

"Hi Kristy!" Grace said, waving at her.

"Who do you kn--- OMG! You can see!" Kristy cried, hugging her.

Ashton smiled and motioned for me to go over to him. I did.

"Guess what." He said.

"What?" I asked.

"Kristy is my girlfriend!" He said, smiling

My heart dropped like a rock. I put on a fake smile.

"That's great, Ash!" I said, wanting to cry.
