Missing: Megan Ann Sanders
I read the heading of today's newspaper. I couldn't let those words process in my mind.
"She left to go to her best friend's house," her mother stated, "As hours went by, she still wasn't home yet."
I felt tears stinging in my eyes. "I knew I should've walked with her" I whispered as tears rolled down my cheeks."Zayn, have you seen my-" my mother started as she walked into the kitchen. "Zayn, honey, it isn't your fault she's gone" she said as she stroked my cheek. "Yes mum, it is, I should've walked her home, I should've at least made sure she got home safely. I feel terrible for letting my best friend walk home at sunset. I'm so stupid" I sobbed.
"You are not stupid. You didn't know this was going to happen honey. It'll be okay Zayn. I miss her, you miss her, everybody she knows misses her." she said as she kissed my forehead. I nodded and walked past my mom to the staircase. I stared at it as I remember last night.
"No Zayn, Principal Thomas isn't a dick" Megan giggled as she sat on the bottom step of our staircase. "He is to me" I said, sitting next to her. She smiled and looked at me. "I don't get why you moved away from Georgia Street." she said, frowning. "I really don't know why either. I guess mum wanted to move away from that guy across the street. "Oh, he really is a stalker" she said. I nodded.
She looked into my eyes and I looked into hers. I started to lean in and she did the same. Next thing I knew, her lips were pressed to mine. We released and she blushed. "I....um...love...you" I said, nervously. "I love you too Zayn" she said and smiled. "I got to get goin' bye Zayn" she said, standing up and walking towards the door. "See you at school tomorrow. Oh, and tell your mum I said 'Bye'" she said. I nodded and she was gone.
-END OF FLASHBACK-
Tears flooded out of my eyes as I sat in the spot she was in yesterday. Why? I stood up, wiped my eyes and ran upstairs.
