I slammed the door shut and lock it. I couldn't hold my tears in anymore. I grabbed my phone and called Mrs. Sanders.
"Hello Zayn" she said. I could hear the sadness in her voice.
"Hi Mrs. Sanders I was wondering-"
"Oh, Zayn, you know to call me April"
"I'm sorry, what were you thinking?"
"I was wondering if I could go over and...um... see Megan's room one more time." I tried to hold in the tears.
"Yeah, Zayn, anytime, this is like your second home"
"Oh okay, well, I'll be on my way."
After we've said our goodbyes and hung up, I grabbed my bag I always carried when I was walking and headed out to the Sanders'.
As soon as I got there, April Sanders was reading some sort of letter at the kitchen table. I placed my bag on the table and sat next to her.
"Mrs. Sanders... I mean um April.... Are you alright?" I asked. Tears fell onto the letter. "I'm fine" escaped her mouth but came out as a whisper.
"I'll be right back, I've got to use the ladies' room" she said, getting up and going upstairs. Yes, she still uses that room.
I stared at the paper she left on the table and read it to myself. It said:
I'm sorry to hear about Megan. I've just told Tina about it. She's still not old enough to understand but at least she'll know what we talk about nowadays.
"I met with Paul yesterday but I didn't tell him about Megan's death. I'll let you handle that. I just feel really bad for him.
He is excited for Megan's birthday which is in a little over a week. He talks about how he's going out there to see her and surprise her but little does he know that his own daughter has passed on.
"And not to mention Rachel. Have you told her? I mean, she has the right to know that her younger sister is gone. Anyways, I'm going to see Mr. Clark tomorrow to plan the date of her funeral.
"I hope we can do it on her birthday. It'll mean the world to her, if she were still here.
Hugs and kisses,
I stood up from my chair and walked up her stairs. I ran into her room, shut the door and locked it.
Her walls had several oversized posters of celebrities hanging on her lavender walls. Her bed was neatly made. Her desk had school books stack on top of each other. That's when I saw a note.
It was sticking out of her science textbook. I took her history and math textbook of the stack and placed it on top of the stack of notebook paper in the middle. I opened her science book to the page where the paper was sticking out.
Page 403. Life and death of a living organism.
I looked back at the paper.
March 16 2011,
"He's coming, I feel it.
"He will find a way to find me and take me. He wants me all to himself and is jealous of Zayn. He think Zayn will love me more than he ever will.
"Diary, I sure hope that's true. I know it's wrong to like a guy who's like a brother to you. I mean, Zayn is the ladies' man. The man every lady dreams of.
Anyways, he's coming and you know too diary, I've told you many times before.
"The rest of these I've hidden in the bottom of the third drawer of my dresser, the one no one ever touches.
"That's where I'll put this one if I have time before...."
She didn't finish. That's probably when her mother made her finish her chores and then she stuck it in her science book on page 403, where she was reading to finish her science project.
I must dig through her drawers to find more information.
