"Hello?" I ask as I answer my phone. We just finished sending the pictures to Harry and they actually turned out pretty well.
"Baby! It's mum, I'm so sorry. Your father just had a heart attack, sweetie he's gone," My mum sobs into the phone the second I answer.
"W-what?" I can't seem to register what she just said.
"I'm so sorry sweetie. I'll stay on the phone with you as long as you want and we can talk, or I could fly to London and be with my baby," she says still crying.
"Mum, thank you but I just want to be alone right now. I'll fly back home as soon as I can," I don't want to say for the funeral. That will only upset both of us.
"All right sweetie, I love you," she tells me.
"Love you too mum," I say before hanging.
"What's wrong?" Dani asks me when I reenter the room.
"I can't talk about it. Not now anyway. I'm sorry I have to go," I say grabbing my things and leaving before any of them have a chance to respond.
There's only one person I want to talk to.
"Hello?" His voice says harshly as he picks up the phone.
"N-Niall?" I choke out. He's the only person I can talk to about these things.
"What's wrong Lí?" He asks, his voice softening.
"My dad died," I say before bursting into loud sobs.
"Oh my god. Just hang tight, I'm coming to your flat. If you're not there I'll wait for you," Niall says.
"I'm on my way back from Rose's. I got the call there and I just needed to get out. Niall I need to see you. I just need to get a cab and I'll be there soon," I try to say it as clearly as possibly.
"I'll be waiting in the lobby," Niall says before I hang up.
"Líadan! Oh my god! I'm so sorry! I know you must be breaking inside. He lived a good life and was a great man, he didn't deserve to go this soon," Niall says pulling me into his chest when I enter the building.
"Can we just go upstairs and not talk about it?" I ask hopefully looking up at him.
"Of course. We can watch Doctor Who, and Sherlock and Harry Potter and we can read whatever books you want and eat food, I'll even make the food," Niall rambles on as we make our way to the elevator.
"I honestly don't know what I'd do without you," I say wiping my eyes and leaning my head on his shoulder.
Niall probably finds it odd that I came to him for comfort instead of my "boyfriend" but I don't care about appearances, I just need my best friend.
"Harry's calling, do you want me to answer it?" Niall asks me. I can tell he wants me to say no but I kind of want to hear Harry's voice.
"Please answer it, and put it on speaker?" I ask quietly. We've been watching the third season of Sherlock and we're now about a third of the way through the second episode which means we've been here for two hours.
"Okay," Niall says with a sigh before answering, "hello Harry, you're on speaker with Líadan and me."
"Thank god she's with you! Dani texted Liam saying Líadan seemed really upset and left without an explanation. I've been worried sick about her for the past two hours. Her phone was off and I didn't think to call you until just now, I went to her flat and your flat but no one answered the door," Harry says quickly. He actually cares about me.
"We're at her place. We were watching Sherlock so we didn't hear you at the door," Niall explains while I keep quiet, I don't want to talk at the moment.
"I'm coming to get her," Harry says and before either of us can protest he hangs up.
"He's probably worried you're cheating on him with me or something. You don't have to go with him if you don't want to. I'll stay with you for as long as you need." Niall tells me but I shake my head.
"No, its fine. I ruined your night with the guys. Go back to them. I should be with Harry," I say leading Niall to the door.
"All right, if you need me don't hesitate to call. I love you Lí," He says leaning over and kissing my cheek.
"I love you too Niall," I say smiling at him. He's my best friend. But I love him as so much more than a friend. I was really hoping I would hate Rose but she's actually a really kind person, sure she has her flaws but everyone does.
I'm never going to have Niall.
"So why did you care so much?" I ask Harry when he arrives at my flat.
"You're my friend and you were obviously upset. I can see that you were recently crying. Tell me what happened," he says leading me to my couch.
"My-my dad died," I choke out, eyes filling with tears once again.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry Líadan!" Harry says bringing my head into his chest and rubbing my back lightly.
"It's all going to be okay. Shh," Harry says continuing to rub my back before placing a kiss on the top of my head.
Peter Abbott, Líadan's father, was such a good man.
He and my father were very good friends.
He was an amazing dad to Líadan, before me her dad was her only friend and now he's gone.
I was overjoyed when she chose me to comfort her. I know I shouldn't feel this way about Líadan but I do.
Things with Rose have been starting to feel different. It's like she's not attracted to me anymore. We still get along great but it's like we're friends, it's the relationship Líadan and I should have. I have feelings for Líadan when I shouldn't and my feelings for my girlfriend are starting to fade.
Of course fucking Harry had to come and mess everything up.
It's been a long night. Tomorrow I need to sort everything out, I'll go out with Rose to see if I have any feelings for her.
"Rose?" I say when I hear her pick up the phone.
"Hey Niall. What's up?" She asks, she seems...distant.
"I was wondering if we could go out today?" I ask trying to sound excited. The events of last night are finally sinking in. Peter is dead. I should be comforting my best friend not making plans with my girlfriend just so I can see if I have feelings for her.
"Today's actually not good Niall. I'm hanging out with my friend Lily, she's one of the first people I met when I moved here and she's been showing me around and helping me figure some things out," Rose says as if she's hiding something. What if Lily's just a cover and Rose is cheating on me?
Would that be so bad? It would hurt but I would get over it. I don't love her. But I need to try with her, she's too good to let go.
"Okay that's fine. Tell Lily I say hello. Goodbye darling," I say before hanging up and dialling Líadan's number.
"Hey Niall, can you come over?" Líadan says when she answers.
"Yeah of course, I'll be there soon," I say and she hangs up. She must be in so much pain.
I've now told all of the boys and their girlfriends what happened, except for Rose. I'm going to see if Niall told her before I tell her.
I haven't been able to say what happened out loud since I told Harry, even typing it was difficult so I had Harry send the text to everyone.
My mum contacted me and told me the funeral would be in a few days so I should fly out. Harry offered to come with me but it just wouldn't feel right.
I need Niall there.
"Hey Lí, I came as soon as I could," Niall says as he enters my flat.
"Niall, the funeral is in a few days and you were kinda close to my dad so I was wondering if you could fly back with me? The day after tomorrow," I ask. I'm really worried he'll say no.
"Of course I'll come. It'll be a good chance to see all of our families again even if it's under bad circumstances," Niall says rubbing my back, I'm not crying but he still knows I need comfort.
I can imagine ever getting over this. I will only be able to get through the funeral with Niall there.
"My mum also told me that Matthew's back. He had to take some time off from Dublin Uni because he has a collapsed lung from a wrestling match. He's even thinking about transferring to London Uni and staying with me which would be nice," I tell Niall smiling at the thought of spending quality time with my brother.
Matt is twelve minutes older than I am but I was always four years ahead of him in school.
I probably would've had more friends if he and I had been in the same grade but since we weren't I didn't even have him as a friend.
It would be nice to get closer to him now.
"I forgot about Matt! I can't wait to see him! I never really thought of you guys as siblings since I never saw you together, let alone twins," Niall says thinking back to when we lived in Mullingar.
"Yeah, Matt was always so good with people well I'm, you know, me. But it will be good for us to spend time together," I say smiling to myself.
"Yeah that's true, but at least you had me as a friend," He says punching my shoulder.
"Yeah, you were pretty close to Matt after I went to Uni though, you're good with people like he is," I say punching his shoulder in return.
"So we'll leave the day after tomorrow, I'll book the plane tickets and we'll tell everyone tomorrow. Did you want to take Harry since he's your boyfriend?" Niall asks me taking out his phone to book the tickets.
"Sounds good to me, but Harry won't be coming with me, I'm going to go and call Matt, you should tell Rose what's happening before tomorrow," I say getting up.
"Okay I'll do that, bye Lí see you later," Niall says waving goodbye.
Once I'm alone I take out my phone and dial Matt's number.
"Hey Matt, how's your lung?" I ask when I hear him pick up.
"You know, collapsed. So you're coming home soon for the funeral?" Matt asks.
"Yeah in two days, Niall and I are coming," I respond.
"Oh yeah you live near him now. I miss that lad. So are you two together yet?" Matt asks and I can tell he's making a suggestive face.
"No we aren't we're both seeing other people actually. I'm dating his band mate Harry and Niall's dating an American reporter," It's difficult lying to my brother but it's necessary.
"Sure you are. I have to go help mum with some stuff, she's not doing so well so I'll see you when you get here," Matt says and we both hang up.
A/N: Kinda a crumby chapter but I got to introduce Matt! He's going to be an important character in the next few chapters! Thanks for reading please vote and comment!
