In the year 3000, Earth became over populated. There was no place to live and many people died of starvation. Then the Leaders of Land 9, where people once called United States, thought of an idea. With the idea of natural selection, they decided on a plan in which those that are "useless" or "weak" will be "erased" from Earth. Those people with a tag on them will be hunt down by everybody on Earth and "erased." Therefore, the start of the hunting begins. Sophie, who live in Land 9, District 101, is a weak but cheerful and intelligent person. Despite losing her mother and father when she was six years old, and despite her uncle and aunt, her guardians, treating her like a servant, Sophie looks forward to each day with a smile. Because of the incident that also killed her parents, half of her body is functioned by technology. What will happen when a tag is put on her? Will she survive or will she be "erased"?

6. Sacrifice

I did not know what to feel. I just stood there as if a feeling would come to me if I did. What did I expect?

My aunt stood up. She had an uncertain look in her eyes. "Alright, if you say so."

I was still standing there when my aunt walked towards me. When she saw me, she was shock for a moment. Then, she smirked at me and left.

Soon after, my uncle and Noah came out, too. When Noah saw me, he looked as if he was about to say something, but he just looked away and left.

I was suddenly mad. What have she done to him? How could she let him murder me? He would suffer for the rest of his life. Then, I was frustrated. Wait! Why am I feeling sad for him. He was the one who said he was going to kill me. But he is just 12. Ah… I was about to pull my hair out. I sighed. "Whatever. I would have to leave this place either way."

It was 3 o'clock when I finished packing. I looked at my parents' picture. "Mom, dad, lets go." When I opened the door, Noah stood right in front of me. This made me stepped back a step.

Noah glanced at my suitcase. He looked as if he was about to cry. His body was shivering. "Sis, come with me for a second."

I hesitated for a second, but then decided to follow him.

Noah took me to the basement. This time, the basement light was on. Noah turned to me, while holding a needle. "Sis, this will only take a second.

For some reason I was not scared by him or the thought of death. Have I already given up? Is it because I am okay with being killed by him? I sighed. Oh,well… it does not matter. I closed my eyes waiting for the worse, but what I felt was only numbness. Then, a slight pain on my right hand followed. I opened my eyes and looked down. Blood was pouring from my right hand. "What are you doing?"

Noah did not look up. He continued cutting my right hand with a knife- from I don't know where. "I am taking the microchip, containing the tracking device and your ID, out."

He ignored me. However, I could see that he was trembling. He was forcing himself to hold the knife straight. Then, he stopped. I could see that in one of his hand, there was a very small chip. He took a deep breath and made a cut on my left arm, which made me wince because it was exactly the place where the boy, who transferred the tag to me, cut me.  Then, with trembling fingers, he made a cut on his right hand, and put that hand on my right arm.

I blinked. Huh? Déjà vu? Then, I realized what he was doing. "No, Noah, you can't do this!" However, it was too late.

The light on my arm disappeared. Then, in a few seconds, the light appeared on Noah's hand. Noah was labeled.

A lot of emotions and thought came to me, but all I could say was "Why?"

Noah smiled at me. It was a sad smile. "This is all I can for you." Tears rolled down his cheeks. Then, with determined eyes, he said, "Now go! I only have one more thing to do to finish my goal."

     "What goal?!"

Maybe because he sounded like my aunt, I unconsciously turned and left as he told me to do. Then, I realized that something was wrong. I turned around. "Noah." However, instead of Noah, what I saw was a sea of fire. "Noah!"

A scream rang out, followed by another and another. It was a scream of pain.

"Noah! Noah!" I yelled out his name, but the only answer I got was his scream.  The fire blocked my way in, and the numbness was getting to me. I felt hopeless. I couldn't do anything. I kept yelling his name and yelling for someone to help, but there was no hope.

Then, no more scream was heard.

My eyes widened. "Noah? Noah?! Noah!" No replies. I stepped back, stumbled and fell. "No……. No! No!" I hold my head as if it was about to fall off. Tears came pouring down my face. Memories and images of my parents' death, Hue's death, and Noah's death floated around in my mind. "Why?! Why God?! Why are these things happening to me?! What did I do wrong?! Why?! Why do so many people around me have to sacrifice their life just for me to live?! I don't deserve this!" My whole body collapsed.

I don't know how long I laid there, but when I got up, only one thought came to my mind. I need to leave this place.  After a few attempts, I got up. I stumbled up the stairs. Then, with nothing on me, I left the house.

I don't know how long I walked. All I know was that dawn was near. I just kept on walking. Then, as I walked a figure came closer. With the sun starting to rise, the figure seemed like it was glowing. An angel? Am I dying? Am I going to where all those, that are important to me, are staying? I smiled. Angel… Then, I said, "Take me."
