In the year 3000, Earth became over populated. There was no place to live and many people died of starvation. Then the Leaders of Land 9, where people once called United States, thought of an idea. With the idea of natural selection, they decided on a plan in which those that are "useless" or "weak" will be "erased" from Earth. Those people with a tag on them will be hunt down by everybody on Earth and "erased." Therefore, the start of the hunting begins. Sophie, who live in Land 9, District 101, is a weak but cheerful and intelligent person. Despite losing her mother and father when she was six years old, and despite her uncle and aunt, her guardians, treating her like a servant, Sophie looks forward to each day with a smile. Because of the incident that also killed her parents, half of her body is functioned by technology. What will happen when a tag is put on her? Will she survive or will she be "erased"?

2. Introduction

"Sir, your price is too high!" I stood there holding the box of strawberries with one hand and pointing at the price board with another.

The owner of the shop crossed his arms and shook his head. "No! My strawberries are the cheapest around here. It is the lowest it can get."

I imitated the owner and crossed my arms and shook my head. "Nonsense! The shop on the next lane sells their strawberries for half of the price of yours!"

"If you don't believe me, I will bring you a receipt."

"You know, I only come to your shop because we had known each other for ages. Now, you won't disappoint, right?"

The owner raised his hand in surrender. "Okay, okay. I give up. I'll give you a discount, okay?"

     I smiled. "Much better!"

After I payed for the strawberries, I thanked the owner one more time before I left. Before the door closed behind me, I heard the owner say, " That girl is going to be the end of me one day. How could she argue like a 30 year old woman, when she is just 15." I smiled at his words. Ah… Another bright, happy day!

When I arrived home, I was greeted by my 12 year old cousin, Noah. "Sis, guess what?! I was given another textbook!"

My eyes lit up. "Really?!" I lowered my head, embarrassed. "Can I borrow it?"

     "Of course!"

Just then a voice, all too familiar, boomed from behind us. "What are you doing?"

We turned around to see my aunt staring down at us. Sweat broke out of Noah's forehead. He had never been the type that was good at lying. "Nothing, mom. Sis was just helping me on my homework."

Aunt glared at me. "Sophie, come here for a second."

     I cringed. "Yes ma'am."

Once I walked up to her, she slapped me on the face hard enough to make a mark. "You shameless thing! How dare you talk to my son as if you were on the same standard as him! And to think that I took pity in you and fostered you because of my sister, your dead mother. You ungrateful trash! Know your standing!"

Noah attempted to stop her, but I stopped him. "I am sorry, aunt. I won't do it again. Please forgive me."

She glared at me one more time before she left. "There won't be a next time.

Noah cried. "I am sorry. I made her do that to you again."

"That is okay," I smiled, "I believe that everything will be alright."

At night, I went to the attic,to where my warm cozy bed is. I looked at my mom's and dad's picture. "Good night, mom and dad." I laid in bed, closed my eyes, and smiled.

     Tomorrow is another bright day.
