"No way!" I laughed, taking a huge bite out of my pizza. He nodded. "Yes, it's true." he admitted. Wow, who would've thought that the famous Niall, 1/5 of One Direction, would break his ankle while dancing with his band mate, Harry.
Right now, we were sitting in the floor with a blanket over the tall grass and eating all sorts of junk food. No, seriously, we had pizza, chips, popcorn, you name it. "Looks like you've been living the life you've always wanted." I said trying to sound happy for him, which, of course, I wasn't.
I mean, sure, I was happy that he finally got the life he always dreamed about, but at the same time it infuriates me that the life he always dreamed for doesn't include me at all. How could he forget all of the things that we lived together? "Yeah, but, I feel like there's something missing in my life, you know?" he said looking down at his greasy, half eaten pizza.
"I really don't know what you mean." I said. What could possibly be missing in his life? Maybe a perfect girlfriend, or possibly a soul mate. That wouldn't be hard for him, he could have any girl in the world. When I say any, I mean, literally any girl.
He hesitantly said, "I've been missing the stuff in my life lately, stuff from my old life. I miss my mum and my brother, my old house, my old friends." the way he said friends was different. Was he maybe, just possibly, implying that he missed me? Because I missed him more than anything. It was truly painful watching Niall live the life he's always wanted without me.
"Oh." I answered simply, looking down at my worn out sneakers. An awkward silence filled the room and it was until he broke it. "So, what have you been up to?" he asked. I shrugged. "Not much, I'm about to graduate from high school and I got admitted into a college."
He nearly choked on his pizza. "College? What college are you going to?" he asked. "I'm going to University of the Arts London, I'm studying photography. It's what I've always wanted to do, remember?"
He chuckled. "Yeah, I remember. You used to always have your camera with you and snap pictures of everything." I laughed. It was true, I would always take pictures. I eventually got enough pictures of Niall, Jason, Lucy, Greg and I to cover my walls with them. I also remember the time I took them down infuriated because I thought that Niall had forgotten about me. Now, they're all in a show box under my bed.
"Well, I think that photography is perfect for you. Do you still have the pictures of when we were little?" he asked hopefully. I nodded. "I do, they're at home."
"Look at this one!" I laughed. It was of Niall and I in a pool. Ok, not all of these were pictures that I took. I remember my mom took this one. "McKenzie, I can barely hear myself-" Lucy said, but just as she opened the door, her jaw hit the floor, well, not literally.
Her beautiful eyes were as wide as golf balls. Her thin, pink lips were in the shape of an O. "Lucy Murtaugh!" Niall grinned. I mentally groaned. Why did Lucy have to come in here? Now she's never going to leave Niall and I alone, which is really what I was hoping for.
"N-Niall? Oh my gosh! You're Niall Horan!" she squealed jumping up and down. I really don't understand why she got so excited, I mean, we knew him before he was Niall Horan from One Direction. She sat down in between Niall and I and pushed me away. Niall was happy to see Lucy, so I got up and left.
"Wait, Mac, where are you going?" Niall asked. I shrugged. "Downstairs, I guess." I said. "Why don't you just stay here with us?" he smiled. "No thanks." I said and walked out of the door. Just as I was leaving, I heard Lucy say, "No, don't leave. She's fine, she'll be back."
So, Niall was going to come after me but Lucy told him to stay there. She's a great sister, sarcasm intended. I love Lucy and all, but she's kind of... Well, a slut. Ever since high school she's changed so much. We used to be so close, but we drifted apart. She went to the popular group and I went to the nerd group.
I'd sincerely rather hang out with my friends, who aren't popular at all, than hang out with Lucy's friends, who are seventy-five percent guys. During school, she doesn't even bother to look my way. At first, I would give her a 'Hello', and she'd just ignore me. Eventually I just gave up, all I did was make a fool out of myself.
Never did I understand why she wouldn't talk to me during school. We're twins and people are going to know, we look alike. Maybe she was embarrassed of me, I was always the ugly twin. Lucy, always so beautiful and popular. I, on the other hand, would always go with the first thing I ever found in my closet and never bothered to even put makeup on.
As I walked down the stairs, I remember something that was still fresh in my mind. It was the day that Mason, my ex-boyfriend, and only boyfriend, beat me. I was devastated and Niall wasn't there to help me, he was somewhere pursuing his dream. I never told him, why bother? It's not like he cares, he never does. Not even if he says otherwise, I know he doesn't care.
