There was Nolan, only 5 years old with his aunt in the supermarket. Nolan’s aunt Susan was a very religious person, she wore a cross around her neck everywhere and carried a bible in her purse. She would make Nolan recite the bible everyday before he went to bed. and because she wanted to stay “pure”, she never married.
“You see than Nolan, that there is a couple who has Satan in their hearts.” She glared and pointed at a girl who had a glowing chest for the (girl) cashier.
“Auntie why do they have Satan in their hearts?” Little Nolan asked.
“Satan is defying God and making their chests glow, what a disgusting thing.” She spat out the words with heavy hate. She then pulled out a small bottle of holy water and flicked it at Nolan and then, onto herself. “May God bless, Satan has shown his face.” She did the sign of the cross.
Nolan later said something in the car to his (insane) aunt Susan.
“Auntie, why do our chests glow?”
“Its because dear Nolan, God has given us the gift of love, and so He wants us to be with the perfect person, so He gave us all a heavenly glow. But Satan chose some people to mock God, and had people of the same sex light up for each other. Its despicable!”
That belief was popular among most Christians, and even people who didn’t believe in god thought it was unnatural. These beliefs were forced down people's throats. And the generation after that, and the generation after that… And soon the hate for gay couples was strong, some people even thought that they should be killed.
But 13 years later, aunt Susan is dead, Nolan is now an atheist, and Nolan is in a sticky situation. His roommate Clark is crazy cute. And now that girls are starting to pay attention to him Nolan is getting a little jealous. But only because those girls where going to steal away his only friend on campus! He didn’t have any romantic feelings for Clark, only platonic. (He swears.)
(I wrote this chapter to explain how gay couples are viewed in this universe. and to tell you a little bit on how Nolan is feeling.)
