“Give me playback of TS-19.” Jenner said waking Katie out of her sleep.
“Playback of TS-19.” Vi said.
At Doctor Jenner’s command Vi pulled up brain scans of TS-19.
“Few people ever got the chance to see this…” Doctor Jenner explained to the group. “Very few.” His eyes landed on the young scientist Walsh standing beside John.
“Is that a brain?” Carl asked Katie who looked down at the little girl.
“An extraordinary one.” Jenner said to Sophia. “Not that it matters in the end take us in for EIV.” He said making the screen enlarge.
“Enhanced internal view.”
Blue lights began to zoom all over the brain scan causing everyone to gasp.
“What are those lights?” Shane asked looking at Katie waiting for her to tell him instead she just stood there studying it with amazement.
“It’s a person’s life.” Jenner explained. “Experiences… memories… its everything. Somewhere in all that organic wiring, all those ripples of light is… you.” He said. “The thing that makes you unique and human.”
“You gonna make sense?” Daryl asked Jenner. “Ever?”
“The ripples of blue light.” Electra said finally speaking up causing everyone to look at her. “They’re called synapses, synapses are junctions between two nerve cells, consisting of a minute gap across which impulses pass by diffusion of a neurotransmitter. Pulses in the brain that carry all the messages. They determine everything a person says, does or thinks. Like right now they determine what I am saying to you guys.” She said looking at John. “They do this all the way from the moment of birth to the moment of…”
“Death.” Jenner said interrupting.
“Death?” Rick asked unsure of his ears heard right. “That’s what this is? A visual?”
“Yes.” Jenner confirmed with a nod. “Or rather the… the… the playback of the visual.”
“This person died?” Andrea asked stepping forward to look at the screen more clearly. “Who?”
“Test subject nineteen. Someone who was bitten and infected…” He took a deep breath like he was struggling to say it. “And volunteered to have us record the process.” He said making Katie stiffen a bit. “Vi scan forward to the first event.”
“Scanning to the first event.”
“What the hell is that?”
“It invades the brain… like meningitis the adrenal glands haemorrhage.”
Realising no one was picking it up he spoke again. “The brain goes into shut down, then the major organs then… death everything you were and everything you will ever be is gone.”
“Is that what happened to Jim?” Sophia asked Carol.
Tears started to form in Andrea’s eyes and Jenner turned to look at everyone else before looking back at her.
“She lost somebody… two days ago.” Lori explained. “Her sister.”
“I lost somebody too. I know how devastating it is.” Jenner said as if he understood her pain. “scan to the second event.”
“Scanning to the second event.”
“The resurrection times vary widely.” Jenner said to the whole group. “We’ve had reports of it happening as little as in 3 minutes.”
Katie could imagine when her Uncle from her Dad’s side had been bitten just after her Other Uncle had shot himself when everything had gone wrong just after Katie had headed back for Georgia.
“The longest we’ve heard was eight hours.” Jenner went on, like he was describing Amy’s reanimation. “In the case of this patient it was two hours, one minute… seven seconds.”
Suddenly Vi stopped fast forwarding and went back to a normal speed.
“It restarts the brain?” Lori asked
