It's the end of Harry's first year at Hogwarts. The Dursley just left to pick him up. I'm excited to see him again, everything is so boring here without him.
"Lucy. We have visitors"
"Who would visit us? We suck?" Eric tilts his head in wonder.
"Shut up, Eric... and stay here" he scowls as I exit the room and slide downstairs, "who's the-..." I open my mouth half in shock and half in embarressment, I'm still in my pyjamas, "uh... hi?" I say awkwardly to the tall wizard in front of me. I've only met Dumbledore a few times before he usually communicates with gran through letters and others.
"Goodmorning" he chuckles at my dressing.
"Lucy, what on Earth-"
"Oh no, it's all right Arabella. No need to dress up all fancy for me" he smiles reassuringly, but it doesn't really change gran's unapproving frown, "so.. what I came here to discuss Arabella is about Harry Potter" gran nods and gesture for him to sit. I join them interested.
"I am listening" gran says when Dumbledore doesn't continue.
"Well.. it is a rather complicated matter but our suspicions that Voldemort is still out there has been confirmed" I flinch at the mentioning of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named but both ignore me.
"Yes. I heard. Lupus came by yesterday" I grimace, why am I never notified?
"And that of course means, that we must go to extra measures concerning Harry Potter. I've alerted most of the Order and from now on we must take shifts to watch him. Whenever Harry's not at Hogwarts there must constantly be someone there"
"And of course you Lucy is a very important piece in this puzzle"
"Me? What can I do. I am a squib"
"Your grandmother is a squib as well and she is one of the most important people when it comes to the protection of Harry Potter and you are his friend. You more than any of us know him. He will put his faith in you since you're the only friend he's ever known before he came to Hogwarts" I just kind of sat there a bit dumbstruck his words not really hitting me.
Gran and Dumbledore kept talking for some time before Dumbledore admitted that he really had to go. I just pretty much sat there the entire time. Harry Potter putting his faith in me? Know I truly know the world has gone mad.
"Lucy" gran put a hand on my shoulder and looked deep into my eyes, "damn it Lucy. Why do you think that just because you're a squib you don't have a part to play. We all have one. We're all needed. When Harry leaves for Hogwarts again I enrolling you to the Academy of Farrings. You need to prepare for your own roll, okay. And no, it is not a choice."
