The next few weeks were weird, a good weird. Holly and Draco got up each morning and after making breakfast and feeding the dogs, they travelled to work. Once they reached the Ministry Atrium they went their separate ways to their respectful departments. Depending on the amount of work they had, they’d either meet there at the end of the day or meet at home. Holly’s days were filled with business meetings in and out of the office. She was in charge of finding cases and matching a case with an appropriate worker that would monitor the case’s progress. Percy was in charge of the funds, both donations and what was to be given out. DWASA had started as an idea for a small department but it was becoming one of the largest in the Ministry. There was rarely a day that Holly didn’t come home laden with stacks and stacks of files for her to sort and prioritize.
Draco normally sat with her late at night, watching Ginny and the Holyhead Harpies on the television, or giving his input of how she should handle each file. Holly noticed that Draco was sleeping easier now, no longer tossing and turning or reaching for his wand late at night. She guessed it was his new job keeping him preoccupied and she asked him about it one morning.
“So how’s your department honey? Do you like it?” Holly asked as she passed him a cup of coffee.
Draco shrugged his shoulders, “It’s OK. Mr. Weasley is great and the staff if great…”
“But?” Holly prodded.
Draco put his cup down and sighed, “Don’t take this the wrong way but a lot of the guys at the office bug me about being the ‘housewife’ of the relationship because I don’t make as much as you”
Holly threw her hands up in the air, “You have GOT to be kidding me! This is the 21st Century! Women can earn just as much as men” It was true that Holly made more, being Head of her Department and all but it was still ridiculous. “It’s not like you’re sitting at home drinking Butterbeer all day watching TV” Holly continued.
Draco nodded, “I know, it just gets old after it happens every day” He got up and kissed her on the forehead, “I’m so proud of you, no matter what anyone says. It was a great idea and you’re helping so many people.”
Holly smiled, “Thanks babe” She took another sip of her coffee as she smiled at their dogs who were sitting on their beds beside the fireplace.
“Oh,” Draco added as he put his plate in the sink, “We should probably start talking about our wedding soon”
GULP Holly choked on her coffee and had to blink back tears as the hot liquid raced down her throat. “O-our wedding….right” She said.
Draco turned around smiling, “Sorry to take you by surprise but we really should start planning. Ron and Hermione’s is next month, George and Angelina’s a few weeks after that, and Harry and Ginny’s is right before Christmas”
Holly nodded, “And depending on how well their date goes, Fred and Anna will be married in the New Year.” Holly had set up their date for today; Fred was going to meet Anna at the Leaky Cauldron and then spend the day in London.
“How about we each think of a few ideas today at work and we’ll sit down and plan tonight?” Draco suggested. Holly nodded and they continued on through their morning.
At work Holly’s mind was racing a thousand miles per minute. It wasn’t the wedding that worried her, it was afterwards. The Ministry expected children within the next few years and Holly wasn’t sure she was ready. She was barely old enough to vote in Canada, let alone have children to take care of. And then there was the whole other matter of sleeping with Draco…not the kind that sleeping was actually done. Holly knew Pansy was Draco’s first (he had told her when they first started dating) but Holly still had her innocence. At least they didn’t have to start trying for a year or so after their wedding but Draco was a guy... and they have needs.
“Holly!” Percy’s voice rocked Holly out of her deep thought. The tall Weasley brother was standing in front of her desk, a pile of papers in hand. “Have you listened to anything I just said?” He asked.
Holly blinked a few times and then replied, “You want me to go through these files and prioritize them by physical, mental, and economical need.” She said in a monotone voice reaching a hand to the papers.
Percy gave her a puzzled look, “No, I actually said Harry is here to visit you” He said motioning towards the door. Harry stood in the door frame wearing a dark travelling cloak, his black hair a mess on top of his head and a smile playing on his lips. Holly shook her head and motioned Harry to come into her office as Percy exited.
Harry took a seat at a chair in front on her desk. Holly leaned back in her chair, stretching her arms behind her, “And what to I owe this pleasure Mr. Potter?”
“Oh I just thought I’d pop in and see if my lovely twin wanted to have lunch with me? Hannah is making her famous chicken pot pie at the Leaky Cauldron.” Harry replied.
“Done!” Holly said grabbing her purse and keys. “So how’s the job going little bro?” Holly asked as she popped the last piece of the chicken pot pie in her mouth.
Harry leaned back in his chair, “Oh you know, there’s busy parts and slow times. We caught the remaining Death Eaters in the mountain so now it’s a lot of background checks and patrol duty. Ginny and Teddy have been taking up most of my time now between wedding planning and babysitting.” \
Holly cringed inwardly at the mention of wedding and babies. Harry noticed and laughed, “It’s not THAT bad Hol, Ginny had most of it planned years ago like colours and where and stuff.”
“Lucky her” Holly said miserably.
“Oh c’mon. You can’t tell me you haven’t thought of how your dream wedding would be?” Harry prodded.
“Kindaaa not really” Holly replied. She started playing with the leftover food on her plate, “I’m just dreading the after part of the wedding so I guess I’m holding off”
“The after-ohhhhh” It took Harry a minute to process. “If Draco EVER forces himself-“
“Oh my god Harry no, it’s not that! Draco would never!” Holly said cutting off Harry, “It’s just that I haven't been with anyone and I’m scared he’ll compare and then realize he likes Pansy more or something… it’s stupid I know”
Harry shook his head, “That’s not stupid at all. I felt the same way with Ginny going back to Dean after my –ah, lack of experience kissing and such. But she didn’t.” He leaned in, “If they really love you and are in love with you, it doesn’t matter how much experience you had. It’s the love that counts”
“I’m hooome!” Holly called out to the house.
Draco round the corner of the living room, a huge grin on his face. “Welcome home babe, how was your day?” He asked as he kissed her.
“The morning was pretty slow but the afternoon was really productive!” Holly said. “Harry and I went for lunch and I got all my files done so we can focus on wedding prep. tonight”
Draco’s smiled grew wider, “Perfect! I thought we could do a little planning in style tonight.”
He said leading her into the living room. Holly’s mouth formed a distinct ‘O’ when she saw the room. Draco had made dinner and set the table in the room, lit by candle light. Beside the table he had propped up a large board and had made a list including the categories of ‘Guest List/Seating Chart’ ‘Venue’ ‘Meal Options’ and ‘Music’.
“Oh Draco this is wonderful!” Holly exclaimed, turning to him and wrapping her arms around his neck.
“I just thought I’d make it less stressful for you” Draco replied, giving her a long, slow kiss. “Now c’mon,” He said nodding towards the table, “The food will get cold” Holly laughed and let him pull her chair out for her. They spent the rest of the night talking about weddings and the future.
