Rylee fumed. She couldn’t believe what she had just done, but she felt-- remarkable. There was a twist in her stomach that felt more good than it did hurt. She went to the bathroom to look at herself in the mirror. She was covered in blood, and her reflection smiled back at her, “Good job, Rylee. Following in mom's footsteps aren’t we?” Rylee looked at her reflection in shock... was it her reflection? “Mom...?”
“That’s right sweetheart it’s mommy, you’re beginning to prove yourself. Maybe I was wrong about you.” she cackled but it was her reflection that moved, that spoke. Rylee became frightened then angry “You didn’t want me! And you never will!” she smashed the mirror into many pieces then she took a deep breath and rinsed off her face. Before she went out she looked back at the mirror and saw her distorted reflection, it resembled as to how she was starting to feel; wrong and broken. The light turned off and she closed the door behind her. She had to find something to do to make her forget what she had just seen.
The blood crawling down her hand began to drip onto the floor, and make a trail. It’s just added to the collection of blood stains the house has had from her mother and father’s murders. She could really get used to this life... Being the most feared thing that anyone who met her would ever experience. Rylee was losing a lot of blood now, and couldn’t stop the bleeding. She didn’t want to touch the cuts, because the glass that remained in it slithered its way deeper with every move she made.
“Ethan.....Sean.... I think I need help.....Someone help me...plea--” Rylee fell hard to the ground with a thud. Nico was the first to see the helpless girl lying on the floor. She wasn’t sure what to do at first, she just knew she was horrified at what she saw.
“DADDY!” she screamed louder and louder, crying out until both men ran into the room with a rush.
“What do we do, Sean?” Ethan asked his older brother.
“I don’t know-- you’ve known her longer..” He replied.
“I know, but i don’t know what to do.... I’m lost, Sean....I have no idea what I’m doing..”
“You’re just trying to survive…You have to do everything you can to survive, and that’s what we have to do for Rylee. We need to take her to the hospital as soon as possible.” He told the boy that started sobbing quietly. The boys dragged her down the street with little Nico trailing behind them. They couldn’t carry her the whole way to the hospital, it was way too far. They tried to get a car’s attention to take them to get help, she had lost a lot of blood.
Finally a car stopped and the driver poked his head out of the window, “What’s going on?” He scanned Rylee.
“She’s lost a lot of blood, I’m not sure what happened! my daughter just found her passed out.” Sean said.
“Get in I’ll take you guys to the hospital.” the man said.
“Thanks.” the boys replied as Nico opened the car’s back door.
Ethan went in first dragging Rylee with him and Sean and Nico piled in after.
“We should hurry.” Ethan told the man.
“I’m on it.” and they sped off to the hospital.
Rylee’s eyes began to flutter open, she felt dizzy and confused. “Where-- Where am I?”
“You’re safe.” Ethan Said. When she realized where she was, Rylee started to freak out.
“Why did you bring me here?!” She screamed, “A hospital!? I’m not supposed to exist! None of us are. We can’t pay for any of this. You didn’t tell them our names did you?” Ethan looked nervous, but Sean replied, “No, I told the nurse your name is Raven Dasoline.
That name… Rylee thought, Why that name?
“I saw it on a label on a tape in the house.” Ethan said. Rylee thought this over, and realized it could give her the chance to get her mom back. Maybe if she sees these medical bills, she’ll know that Rylee was still alive.
“She’s right though,” Sean said, “We need to get out of here before anyone comes back with any more questions. Rylee’s all stitched up, and the nurse said to be back in a couple of weeks to remove the stitches. We can do that at home.”
Rylee started pulling the chords off of her body, and unplugged the monitor so that it wouldn’t go flat line and get a group of people in here. She stopped at the IV. She put the tube between her fingers and took a deep breath.
Ethan noticed, and said, “I can help you with tha—“ Rylee ripped it out fast. Her arm started bleeding, and she grabbed some gauze that was in a cabinet and wrapped her entire arm, to cover up the stitches as well. Sean picked Nico up and they snuck out of the room. It was hard to go unnoticed, because of Rylee being in the hospital gown. A nurse stopped them, “Where are you going?” She asked.
Rylee stared blankly at her. Sean said, “She just needs fresh air, she gets claustrophobic, and has to be in a big open space or else she’ll break down. You’ll find it in her file, but we have to get her outside, fast.” The nurse looked at them skeptically, but Rylee caught on, and played along. She fell to her knees and started crying, “I’m trapped, I’m trapped! I’m so crowded.” She started sobbing, and the nurse let them go. Once they got outside, Rylee stood on her own and started walking, “Too bad I shredded my file. I hope it gives them a lesson on not leaving files with the patients.”
In the parking lot, the trio looked for a car that was unlocked, hoping to find some clothes. After many, many failures, they finally found a car that the back door was unlocked, and had something that was dry cleaned. How careless, Rylee thought. She jumped in the car and shut the door, leaving the guys looking out for any people. And just their luck, a woman came walking up to the car, looking at them.
“What the hell are you doing with my car?” She demanded. The two guys looked at each other, and Nico hid behind the car right next to them, peeking over the side with big fearful eyes. Sean took the camcorder out of the book bag he was carrying, and turned it on. “What the hell is that for? I don’t have time for your games, leave me alone, and get away from my car!” Ethan grabbed the woman, and shoved her in the backseat of her car with Rylee, “Do something with her!” They could hear Rylee cussing in the car, and Sean propped the camera up to tape what was going on inside the car. They heard screaming come from inside the car, and Ethan looked around to make sure no one would hear.
“I can’t see a thing. We’ll just have to watch the tape later, and hope that it caught something.” Sean said. There was one last loud sigh that came from inside the car, then some rustling. The door opened and Rylee stepped out. The outfit she had put on was a dress, it looked like something you’d go to a club in. It was red, and came up above her knees, it was tight around her body which showed off her curves. There were fresh blood stains on the dress, but they’re barely noticeable against the red dress. Rylee’s face was painted red, as well.
“I look fucking ridiculous! I look like I should be on the street corner!” Rylee angrily said.
“Well—“ Sean said, “Maybe it wouldn’t hurt. We could get more money so we can eat…” Rylee’s eyes seemed to flame, and she exclaimed, “Maybe you should then, because I sure as hell am not!” They started walking down the road, hoping to get a ride to get as close to the house as possible without giving away their place. Very quickly—more quickly than the night before—someone stopped to pick them up. The sun beamed down on them, and the Sacramento heat was almost too much to handle.
The old man peeked his head out the window, and first noticed Rylee. “Are you a bunch of swingers?” He asked in an old, shaky voice.
“No, sir,” Sean said, “We just wandered too far, and need to get home, my daughter is too tired to walk.” The old man looked down at Nico and nodded his head, motioning them to get in the car. We told him to drive us to the ally where I found Ethan, and he did. When they got out of the car, they waited until he went around the corner, and could no longer see them. And once they made it into the house, Rylee was straight off to bed.
