“Natasha, is that you?”
“Yeah.” I sniffed quietly as I walked back into Maria’s house. My head was hung low, I was ashamed that I spent the entire journey home in the back of a taxi crying my eyes out and pouring my feelings to the taxi driver, he tried his best to offer some advice but it didn’t help in the slightest. I probably looked like a horrendous mess, no doubt he couldn’t wait to get rid of me. What was I doing with myself?
“Oh hunny, what happened?” Maria sympathized as she greeted me.
“Maria I don’t know if I can do this.” I eventually replied with a subtle hiccup, they had already formed and I couldn’t stop them.
“What can’t you do?” She gently spoke, rubbing my back.
“I still love him.” I spluttered out.
“Of course you do, it’s only been a day, it’s not going to go away overnight.”
“I don’t want to love him though.” I stuttered, a fresh stream of tears falling form my eyes due to the realization of what I just said.
“Now is the your head or heart speaking?” She cooed.
“My head.” I replied quietly.
“Is your heart that still has the feeling then?”
“Why is life so hard?” I whined.
“Because life is a rollercoaster, you’ve just got to go with it.” I sighed. “It’ll get better, you’ll see.”
“I don’t see how much worse it could get.”
“Now then Miss Grumpy Pants, turn that frown upside down.” She joked, pulling the corners up my mouth upwards. “Better. Now don’t leave me to eat this tub of ice-cream on my own this time.”
“Try and stop me.” I smiled effortlessly as she pulled me through into the living room.
“Are you sure you don’t want anything to eat before you go?” Maria asked for the twentieth time this morning.
“Yes, I’m still full up from the ice-cream last night.” I chuckled, rolling my eyes playfully at her.
“I’m just checking, I don’t want you to starve yourself.”
“Maria, there is an extremely low chance of that, me and food go together like Hermione and books.”
“Harry Potter referencing now?” She replied, arching her eyebrow in my direction.
“Problem?” I grinned.
“Not but just for the record, Ron Weasley owns my heart.” She gushed, her hands placed on her heart.
“He’s all yours.” I smirked. “I like myself a bad boy.” I winked.
“Draco Malfoy? You and Draco?” She replied, laughing.
“What?” I spluttered.
“I don’t know who would get in more trouble, you or him.” She smirked. I shrugged before walking out of the kitchen and into the hallway where all my belonging were packed up, ready to be moved into my new place, my own little bubble as I shall call it.
“Have you got everything?” She asked changing the subject.
“I think so.” I mumbled.
“Deposit?” In my purse.
“He’s meeting us there with them.” I said.
“Head held high?”
“Check.” I smiled, giving her a small hug.
“Atta girl.” She beamed, rubbing my head like a dog in a joking manner. We were cut off by the sound of a vehicle sound it’s horn outside the door.
“Must be the minivan.” I pondered as I opened the door to see my theory true. I didn’t have a lot of stuff so a removal can wasn’t necessary but both Maria and I were knackered and didn’t fancy having everything into a small car.
“Let’s get you out into the big bad world.” Maria spoke whilst she was already hauling boxes out the door.
“Can’t wait.” I mumbled half sarcastically after her.
“Here are the keys to your brand new apartment.”
“Thank you.” I grinned up at Jeoffery who towered a good foot above me. He left shorty after opening the front door for Maria and I.
“Wow, you know how to pick a good place” Maria puffed, out od breath from the stairs we had climbed up. “Fully furnished too, lucky girl.” She chuckled.
“I think it was the jet bath in the en suite bathroom which won it for me.”
“Are just trying to rub it in now?” She laughed in time with me.
“What? Me? Rub it in your face, no not at all.” I replied sarcastically causing out laughter to increase but it soon stopped when the familiar tune of Ed Sheeran ran out through the apartment, Maria’s phone was begging to be answered.
“You don’t mind do you?”
“No, go ahead.” I smiled as she walked away pinned her mobile device to her ear. I picked up my guitar and placed it in the my new bedroom
“Natasha?” Maria called out from another room.
“In the bedroom!” I responded in the same tone.
“Hey.” She replied, poking her head round the door.
“Hey, who was that?”
“The office, they need me to sort out some stuff which had occurred with recording studious and stuff.”
“Oh, okay.” I smiled.
“You don’t mind if I just nip out for a bit do you?”
“Of course you can Maria, you don’t have to come back. I’m fine myself, jus think yourself lucky you don’t have to unpack.” I grinned at her.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, now go. Work awaits.”
“Joy.” She chuckled after her sarcastic response.
“Was that an attitude?” I smirked whilst raising an eyebrow at her.
“No.” She moped. “I love work.” She cringed.
“Better.” I replied causing us both to laugh again.
“I’ll pop round this week, look after yourself.”
“Yes mum.” The words escaped my mouth before I even gave them much thought. It was supposed to be a joke but it clearly wasn’t. I honestly have no idea why I did and I’m sure Maria could see I didn’t fund it amusing like it was supposed to be.
“You listen to me, keep your head up, it will take time but it will get better, now come here.” She spoke in such a sincere tone, my eyes were welling up once again as our arms wrapped around each other. Her hugs were always comforting, she was like the best friend I had always wished for, the older sister I never had and the mum I desperately needed.
“Thank you.” I whispered into the coat just before we released each other.
“See you soon.” She beamed as she walked away and out the door, closing it quietly behind her for once. I took a deep breath after she left and look around the apartment, it felt empty but I was yet to fill it with all my junk.
