"Holly! Holly, wake up now!!"
I opened my eyes to see Logan hovering overtop of me in my lime green bedroom. I could see he was in a panic so I sat up quickly.
"What is it?" These words came out scratchy. I cleared my throat.
"I don't know but you gotta come quick. There's something wrong with mom," he replied sternly.
Logan leapt off my bed and I quickly got up and followed him into the kitchen. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
My mother was laying on the kitchen table, her body still. My father was at her side, trying to get a response from her.
It looked as though there was steam coming off of her. I thought for a moment that she had caught on fire...
Then my father addressed Logan.
"Son, take your sister and get out of here."
I tried to look at her for as long as I could before Logan grabbed my hand and dragged me into the next room.
I immediately went back towards the kitchen and pressed my ear to the door. I tried to make out what was happening in there. I could hear my dad's whispers for a while, but then nothing.
The silence scared me so I turned to my brother and asked him what was going on. When he didn't respond, I reached for the door knob.
Logan grabbed me by the shoulders and pulled me back.
"No, Holly. Dad said not to go in there." I couldn't understand how he could just stand there and wait for something to happen.
Suddenly, the silence turned into deep groans. Like a hungry beast...
Then I heard dad start to scream.
I felt Logan come from behind me and wrap his arms around me. I plugged my ears and closed my eyes tight. I thought that maybe if I couldn't see or hear it, then it would all just stop.
But I was wrong.
My heart jumped out of my chest when I heard two warm bodies thump against the door. Logan and I staggered backwards.
"It's mom and dad!" I screamed at Logan. "Let them in!"
On my command, my brother ran to the door and opened it wide.
The couple that started limping towards us with hungry eyes...
They were not our parents anymore.
