2. Chapter Two

Chapter Two

"He did not."

"Yes he did. And everyone heard him say it too."

I stood in the lunch line with Maria, discussing my dilemma in chemistry.

"Oh my God, what a dick. That was like, so disrespectful." The lunch lady plopped a serving of greenish goop onto my tray.

"Tell me about it." I rolled my eyes. I was still all caught up about that Harry dude.

He totally insulted me in front of the whole class. I showed him nothing but kindness, and he'd straight out humiliated me. No one did that to me. Ever.

They all knew who I was. I was a fucking rich model. All the girls wished they were me, all the guys wished they could be with me. And most of all everyone knew not to fuck with me. I didn't tolerate pieces of shit like Harry; I stomped on them.

"Oh my God, there he is!" Maria pointed excitedly.

"Wait, who?" I whipped my head around, surveying the cafeteria.

Her smile spread across her whole face and she bounced up and down uncontrollably. "My hot make-out lifeguard from Cali!" I followed her finger to a table in the middle of the lunchroom.

Let me rephrase: our table in the middle of the lunchroom. The one Maria, Tiffany, Sharon, Francesca, and I always sat at. Always. Everyone knew that.

I instantly recognized the boy sitting there. None other than my charming lab partner Harry. And he was sitting with Madison.

"You're not being serious? That's the dirtbag from my chem class! You made out with that jerk?!"

Maria averted her eyes bashfully. "Well... I was kind of drunk..." She trailed off. "But seriously, Alex, just let it go. Don't you think you're overreacting a bit? Let's just go sit with him."

I scoffed. "Overreacting?! First of all, he's sitting at our table with Madison! Do you see what she's wearing?! And second, he just about called me a slut in front of everyone! Did you forget that?"

"Well, you're kind of asking for that kind of attention when you wear something like that."

Anger bubbled up inside me. We got to the end of the line and I grabbed a milk carton and slammed it down on my tray. "You're fucking siding with some man whore you've known for a night over your best friend?"

"I'm just saying that it's sort of your own fault." Maria had never talked to me this way before.

I was at a loss for words. Maria gave me a sympathetic smile. "I'm going to sit over with him and Maddie. If you change your mind, well, you know where I am."

And with that she turned and left me standing there. I caught up to her, grabbing her arm.

"Come on, Maria." I whined. "Let's just sit somewhere else."

We arrived at the table and Maria slid in next to Harry. I received an aggravated look from Madison.

"I thought you didn't want to sit with me because of my lovely dress?" Maddie's voice dripped with sarcasm.

A girl with long straight orange hair sat down at the table.

"Frenchie? Not you too?" I said, ignoring Madison's comment. And yes, Frenchie like eccentric redhead in Grease.

Francesca seemed puzzled. "What?"

"You guys aren't actually going to let them sit with us?" I saw Harry smirk out of the corner of my eye.

"Why not? They're cool." Frenchie let her lunch sit in front of her.

There was no way I was going to sit with both Harry and Madison. I didn't know what had gotten into my friends.

There was no point in even trying. "I give up! I can't sit here!" I stomped away.

I turned back with a fake smile. "And Maria," I called, "If you change your mind, well, you know where I am!" I mocked her words from a few minutes ago. She looked at me puzzled. Bitch was so stupid she couldn't even tell when she was being insulted.

I catch some amused freshmen watching. "What the fuck are you looking at?! This isn't reality TV!"

"Hey Zayn." I slammed my lunch tray down forcefully next to him, giving him a start.

"Oh, hey Alex. Finally deciding to talk to me after the whole tongue incident?"

He was referring to the time he got me drunk and I made a complete fool of myself at a party at the end of last year. Apparently I came onto Andrew Kennen, who was like the nerdiest guy ever by the way, and totally started slobbering and making out with him in a not-so-attractive manner. I wasn't sure if that was true though, because the alcohol clouded my memories. But sometimes rumors could be just as bad.

"Just shut the fuck up."

He looked taken aback. "Nice to see you too. What's got your knickers in a bunch?"

I gave him an unamused look and watched Harry, Maria and Madison laughing together. Tiffany and Sharon now sat there too. I saw Maria shamelessly flirting with Harry, who looked like he was thoroughly enjoying it. I resisted the urge to pull my hair out.

Zayn took a bite of his sandwich. "Ahh... The new guy... I heard what happened in chemistry. You got burned."

How the hell did news travel so fast? It sometimes seemed like the entire school would know about my problems before I did.

"Haha." Note the sarcasm. "Where's Dylan?" I asked Zayn.

He replied with a mouthful of food. "Shouldn't you know? You practically are his stalker."

"Um, he is my boyfriend. Just answer the fucking question! And don't chew while your eating, it's gross." I slapped his arm.

He gives a smile with all the food in his mouth. "You are seriously going to make me hurl!"

"I thought you didn't eat?"

"I'm just on a diet that doesn't include lunch."

Part of my job was not eating, and it took hard work to maintain a stomach this flat. I wouldn't throw all this away just for some crappy school food.

I pushed my lunch tray away from me. The mystery meat was never that appetizing anyway.

"I'll eat that if you're going to!" Niall joined us. He was a grade below me and could eat like it was nobody's business.

"Be my guest." I slid it towards him.

"So, what gives us the privilege of having you with us today?" Niall asked, shoveling down the gross schoolgirl food.

"I'm just sitting here."

Zayn shook his head at my diet comment. "Dylan's not coming back until next week. He said something about camping."

I cringed at the thought of sleeping on the ground and trekking like a savage through the woods. Sometimes I didn't understand Dylan.

"What's up Alex? I heard you tried to flash the new guy in class." Louis appeared next to me. He had a stupid grin plastered to his face. "So, what brings you to the 'jock table'?" He asked making air quotes.

"Do you want me to smack that dumb grin off your face?"

Louis pushed his light brown hair to the side. "Looks like Queen Bee can't take a bit of her own medicine. Why aren't you sitting with the Blonde Bitches today?"

"I'm just fucking sitting here, okay?!" I blurted out in frustration. I wished they'd just leave me alone. I put my elbows on the table, resting my head in my hands.

The three boys exchanged glances. I saw Zayn gesture towards Harry's table.

"Harry's not all that bad Alex." Niall looked at me with his blue eyes. "He actually seems like a cool guy. I talked to him during my study."

"I don't fucking care. I don't like him." I glared at the table. Maybe if I stared at it long enough I could burn a hole in it.

Louis chuckled, "She's just all mad he didn't like her boobs."

"Hello? I'm still sitting here." I spoke to the surface of the table.

"I know," Louis replied, "It's just so funny to see you mad about something so dumb. Welcome to this thing called rejection. Hurts, doesn't it?"

I retorted venomously. "You know what else hurts? When I smack you in the face because you won't shut the hell up!"

Zayn wiped his forehead with his sleeve. "What ever happened to the seductive Alex we've come to know and love?"

Usually when I interacted with these guys I was flirting. "I guess I'm just not feeling it today boys."

I couldn't believe Maria and all my friends ditched me for him. I loathed Harry more and more each second. He did a good job too; I'd only known him for a couple hours and he was already at the top of my hate list. I already despised him more than Sarah Anderson, who spilled spaghetti sauce all over my brand new white dress last year.

This was my kingdom, and there was only room for one ruler. If he didn't back off, I'd have to make him. He totally ruined my first day, and I wasn't going to stop until I got him back.
