Find Your Words

Zalia. . . The girl who never spoke. Never been a part of society, was home schooled and is now enrolled at university.
What can Harry do to change that? Does Zalia even want to know the boy?

4. Meet Jacob

Chapter 4

I awoke not to an alarm, my parents or sunlight, as I was used to, but to somebody clearly climbing into my bed. They hadn't just sat down on the side of my bed but had gotten under the blankets. My body went rigid. Should I say something? Should I break my 19 years of not talking? This is a slightly more serious situation than I have ever been in. What if this person hurts me? I felt naked legs touch mine, definitely a man’s, and arms wrapping around my waist as he moved closer . Just as I was about to scream or talk, I wasn't quite sure what would come out, he spoke first, well, mumbled really.

“Relax Z. It’s just me,” a deep, british accented voice slurred.

Harry Styles.

I rolled my eyes and turned over to look at him. He had moved my laptop to my desk and his clothes lay on the end of my bed. The stream of moonlight coming through the slit in the curtains allowed my mind to ease a little to see that Harry was indeed wearing underwear still. I pointed to the other bed and he just chuckled.

“Please? I won’t try anything. Pinky swear. I just don’t like to sleep on my own,” he explained.

I sighed, the smell of alcohol on his breath was making me feel sick. Surely there was no harm in sharing a bed with Harry? I’m fully clothed, he’s drunk, obviously not knowing what he’s doing but. . .  he does have a girlfriend and I can’t shake the feeling. The feeling of how I would not want my boyfriend to be sleeping with some random chick that I didn’t know. I heard a small snore and I looked to see Harry already sleeping, his mouth hanging slightly open.  I was able to slip out from underneath his arm and I checked my phone to discover that it was four in the morning. I could sleep in his bed but. . . the adrenaline from thinking there was a strange man in my bed has kinda woken me up. My eyes are no longer even blurry with sleep. I don’t think I would be able to fall asleep if I tried. Might as well just start my day a little early.

I turned on the lamp nearest to the wardrobe and began looking for something practical to wear. If I’m going to stay awake all day I am going to need coffee. It took around ten minutes but I finally found something cute but practical to wear. I put on a pair of shorts with stockings underneath, a tank top and one of my favourite varsity jackets. I went into the bathroom and put on eyeliner and mascara only. It is way too early for anything else. I put my shoes on last as I hate wearing shoes. I honestly do not understand those white girls in movies that wear heels inside all the time.

It was five before I finally actually left the room and left to find a McDonalds. My phone said it was only a fifteen minute walk but it took me nearly three quarters of an hour to get there. The place looked abandoned when I walked in but I don’t blame anyone. It’s before six. The guy behind the counter looked like he had been there since at least midnight. He looked around my age though which was kind of surprising. I know people over 18 can do graveyard shifts but why would you make them? Regardless, I ordered a coffee and something to eat and went to sit by the windows. The sun was barely up and it looked so beautiful. Somebody walked through the door and I nearly fell out of my seat. They were wearing a McDonalds shirt and walked straight through to the kitchen. Not long after, the original guy, Jacob it had said on the badge, walked over to me with my order.

“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” he said, handing me my food.

I nodded my head and smiled, taking a sip of my coffee.

“Come with me. I’ll show you something,” he said, standing up and offering his hand to me.

I took his hand and with the other managed to grab my coffee and fries. We walked outside and he took me around to the back of the building.

“You’ll have to be careful but believe me, this is totally worth it,” he said, climbing up a ladder attached to the building.

Making way up was difficult but luckily the roof was flat-ish. Jacob held my hand and directed me towards the ledge.

“Sit,” he instructed, changing his hold to my arm so he had a better grip on me.  He lowered me slowly and only let go once I was completely seated then sat down beside me. “The view is amazing from here. This is one of the only reasons why I accept the shifts at this time,” he was looking me in the eyes as he talked.

His eyes. They were a brilliant blue contrasting to his dark brown almost black hair. I looked away quickly before I freaked him out too much by staring.

“My name’s Jacob,” he said, offering his hand to shake. I giggled and shook it. “Are you gonna tell me your name? Or this some kind of Ariel shit?” he said with a chuckle. “Sorry. Mind my language.”

I shrugged and looked kind of disbelieving so I pulled out my phone and started typing.

‘My name is Zalia :) Call me Z though if it’s easier. Most people here do.’

“You got a cold or something?” he asked. That’s everyone’s first question.

‘Nope. I can talk if I wanna but I don’t wanna.’

“You’ve never spoken? Ever?” I just nodded. “Wow. That’s impressive,” he says with a wink. I giggle and look out at the view from the roof.

We were silent for five minutes absorbing the slight heat coming from the sun until I laid back.

“Hey Zalia. Do you think I could get your number?” Jacob asked suddenly.

I was slightly shocked but I sat up and nodded my head. He handed me his phone and I put my number in along with my name.

“Lancaster?” I shook my head. “Zalia Lancaster. Cute,” he said with a chuckle.

I handed him my phone for him to put his number. He typed for a few seconds then took a selfie on my phone to go with the contact so I wouldn’t forget his face. He handed my phone back and as I was distracted looking at the details he took a picture of me. I flinched in shock from the sound and flash and he instantly grabbed my arm to steady me as we were still sitting on the edge of the building.

“What are you doing up so early?” he asked.

I looked at the time and it was half past six already.

‘My roommate came back  drunk at 4 in the morning -.- They woke me up and I couldn’t go back to sleep.’

“Fair enough,” he said laughing. “Where do you live?”

‘On campus. I walked here :)’

“Oh. Do you want me to walk you back?” he offered with a smile.

‘Tryna get rid of me already? :p’

“I have your phone number, you can’t get rid of me,” he said with a wink.
‘Yes please. I would love if you walked me back :D’

Jacob jumped up and offered his hand to help me up.
