8. Chapter 8: Jade's House
I hoped the evening would be good, because of Jade's father and the way he might react when he sees me in this wheelchair. I believed he might overreact when he would see that I was here to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage again because of her pregnancy. Although it may not have interfered with my decision, I decided on going through with it. What was the worst that could happen?
About a year ago Jade and I were here at a family dinner where things did not go so well. I could do this on my own.
On the outside of the house, it looked very nice and well decorated on the inside. Jade's father came out and met my gaze. At first, he says nothing, and just ponders over what to do. I wished he'd hurry up and speak. It felt like someone had stabbed me with an imaginary sword, and I gradually died waiting.
j"So you protected my daughter..." he mumbled. "That's why you're in that chair and I was wondering, could you forgive a stubborn old man?"
Heart singing, I reply: "Of course! Also... I was wondering if i can have your daughter's hand in marriage." Her father doesn't hesitate.
"Yes, you may marry my daughter. I see you are the man that would put your life in danger to protect her."
