I opened my eyes and found myself in a very unfamiliar room. I briefly saw what mine and Shawn's hotel room looked like and this definitely wasn't it. The next thing I noticed was that my hair was being stroked by somebody. I rolled over to see who it was and I shouldn't have been surprised to see Dean Ambrose, but I was. "Dean?" I mumbled as I propped myself up onto my elbows. I winced slightly as pain shot through my whole body.
"Hey," He whispered with a smile, "Glad to see you're up finally. You really took a beating out there."
"Yeah I know," I grumbled, "Jericho did a number on my arms and I don't even want to know about my ribs and legs."
He got up, went over to the chair on the far side of the room, and returned with my phone. "You might want to call either Shawn or Hunter, they've been calling nonstop."
"Alright." I mumbled. I decided that dialing Hunter's number would probably lead to a screaming fight so I dialed Shawn's number. As I waited for Shawn to pick up the phone I realized my phone was in my bag, which I left in DX's locker room. I didn't have time to ask how it came to be in possession of The Shield because Shawn answered and he sounded frantic.
"Ash, are you alright? Did they hurt you? Where are you?" Shawn was defiantly worried to say the least.
"Shawn, Shawn...calm down. I'm fine, I'm with Dean right now, everything’s fine. Now what I need you to do is take a deep breath and relax, alright?" I knew that if Shawn was reacting like this then Hunter was going to flip his lid when I see him tomorrow...or today. I don't actually know what time it is.
Shawn took a deep breath, and then continued the conversation. "You're alright, correct?"
"Yeah..." I replied with uncertainty.
"And you're coming to Smackdown tomorrow, right?" He asked. God, I felt like I was playing twenty questions.
"Again yes..." I swear if one more question is asked I'm going to throw my phone out a freaking window.
"Good, meet us at the live Smackdown event tomorrow." He said, "And make sure The Shield is with you." Shawn hung up the phone after that and the way his voice grew darker with that last part really scared me. I hung up my phone and set it beside me on the bed. "I think we're going to Smackdown tomorrow."
"He wants The Shield there, doesn't he?" Dean asked.
Okay, since that question had to be asked my phone is safe. "Yeah," I replied, "He's um...he's upset to say the least." I was worried because I didn't want DX to hurt The Shield and vice versa.
"Well, I saw that one coming." He said in an unsurprised tone.
"I'm just worried; I don't want a fight to break out between DX and The Shield." I admitted, "I don't want to see anybody get hurt because of me."
Dean pulled me closer to him and wrapped his arms around me. "I promise we won't start a fight with DX." He put his chin on my head and left it there. "So what do you want to do tomorrow, we are in Pittsburg after all."
I thought about it for a second then a light bulb went off in my brain. "Kennywood!" I replied enthusiastically.
"What, the amusement park?" He asked, "I mean, if Seth and Roman are up for it then sure but I don't think they will be."
"I hope we get to go, I haven't been there since I was twelve." I said as I began recalling my last trip there.
"Yeah, I went there a few times in my childhood." Dean said, "I remember Noah's Ark, as I kid I thought that ride was amazing."
"Walk-through rides were always fun." I mumbled as I remember my first time on that ride, "They still are too."
We sat there for a little while longer until I began feeling tired. I then buried my head in the crook of his neck and began drifting into what would be one of the worst nights of sleep in my life.
I sat alone on a muddy creek bank, the cold wind and harsh rain pounding against my face. I was starving and I knew I probably wouldn't make it to see the end of the week. I was the whole way across the country from my home, so heading back wasn't an option. I was cold, hungry, and lonely. I had no way to call one of my friends and tell them where I was and how I was doing, hell they probably thought I was dead. I cried for hours on end until I heard a voice off in the distance, I looked up and wiped my tears. Coming towards me was the silhouette of a man, but that's all I could distinguish. Every part of me told me to run, but I was already dying, what could be much worse than this? As the man got closer my vision blurred and everything faded to black.
I jolted upright in bed and looked around. I was still in The Shield's hotel room, but Seth and Roman were fast asleep in the two other beds. Dean however, was nowhere to be found. I sat with my knees to my chest and rocked back and forth. I thought the nightmares had finally stopped but I was obviously mistaken. This time I dreamed about when Shawn first found me, and even though that was the last time I'd ever actually had a bad life, I still never wanted to see that moment again. I was so close to dying but Shawn seemed to come in the nick of time and save me, just as he would do for years to come. I sighed and laid back down in bed, knowing that it was still early in the morning.
After four or five minutes, the door unlocked and Dean came back. He carefully and quietly shut the door then slipped into bed beside me. I'm not going to lie, it felt pretty weird.
I probably laid still for nearly ten minutes, a few tears escaping my eyes every now and again, until I thought he was asleep, then I rolled over to look at him. Of course he wasn't because I didn't actually check, I only made an assumption. So yeah, I looked at him, he looked back at me, I had a mini heart attack, everything that comes with these types of things.
"I didn't know you were awake." He whispered so he wouldn't wake Seth and Roman. It was just my luck that with virtually no light he was still able to see where tears had just recently fallen. "Why have you been crying?"
"It's nothing, just a nightmare." I mumbled as I looked down at the blankets.
Dean scooted closer to me and brushed a few strands of hair out of my face. "Don't worry about it, it was a dream and nothing more. I have some good news though. Seth and Roman said they didn't mind spending tomorrow at Kennywood."
If not for the fact that Seth and Roman were fast asleep I would cried out in joy. "Yay." I whispered in the most excited tone possible.
Dean smiled and chuckled quietly at my excitement, then things got awkward. It was silent between us so we were just staring at each other. On the inside I was begging him to break the silence and say anything, even just one word. "Well, good night." He said quietly. I was glad he broke the awkward silence, but I wasn't tired and I sure as hell did not want to stop talking to him.
Reluctantly I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, but it was October so it gets cold at night. I began shivering under the blanket and Dean, who doesn't believe in sleep apparently, noticed.
"You getting cold?" He asked. When I nodded my head he scootched even closer. Now he was only a few inches away from me as opposed to a foot or so. It must be a guy thing or something because he was extremely warm, just like Hunter was.
"Is it like a guy thing that they're always super warm when it gets cold out?" I asked out of sheer stupidity.
"Nope," He replied the same way he did during The Shield's first interview, "It's a Dean Ambrose thing." Wow, real cheesy move there.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled slightly. "I hope you realize just how cheesy that line was."
"Yeah, I do." His cocky little smile made me giggle slightly.
"There's one other thing you need to realize about that line." I added.
"Oh really," Dean asked, "And what might that be?"
I snuggled closer to him and buried my head in the crook of his neck. "It worked." After that we both remained silent and I soon drifted into a peaceful slumber.
