With a smile on my face I skipped happily back to my locker room, because waiting there for me was my ECW friend. Only Shawn and Hunter knew my friend was here, so it was going to be a pleasant surprise for everybody.
I opened my locker room door and my smile only grew bigger when I is saw him sitting there. I ran right up to him and gave him a hug with so much force I almost knocked him over. "Tommy, I can't believe it, you're really here!" I squealed with excitement.
"I just called you last night." Tommy chuckled as he hugged me back.
"I know but I haven't seen you in forever!" I said excitedly. "So what should I wear tonight? I'm already wearing an ECW shirt, but I don't think it's enough."
Tommy raised his eyebrow at me. "When have you ever worried about what to wear?"
"It's not every day I get to wrestle with Tommy Dreamer, is it?" I asked.
"We wrestled together in ECW." He pointed out as he made himself at home on my couch.
"But this is even specialer!" I protested.
Tommy raised his hands in defeat. "I never said it wasn't, I'm just saying it's not like you to worry over this kind of thing."
I groaned in frustration and fell back onto the couch beside Tommy. "I know, I've just had a stressful week slash weekend."
"So I've seen." Tommy commented. "By the way, good job in your matches yesterday."
"I wouldn't say I did a good job in my match with The Shield, they were way too overprotective of me." I sighed.
"I meant to ask about them." He said. Oh crap, over-protective Tommy is coming back. "Are they treating you alright? If not I'm going to go ECW on them!"
"Relax bro, they're awesome. I know how they seem on TV, but they're actually really great dudes. Roman acts so serious, but he's like a big teddy bear once you get to know him. Seth is the funny guy in the group, he can even make Roman laugh. And Dean...where do I begin?" I got lost in thought as I started thinking about Dean.
Tommy instantly knew what I was thinking about when I started staring off into space. "You like the boy, don't you?"
I felt my face get hot, so I knew I was blushing. I couldn't say anything though, so instead I just simply nodded.
There was a brief, awkward silence that was finally broken by Tommy. "It took you this long to get a boyfriend, really Ash?"
I playfully slapped Tommy's arm. "Dude, that's not funny!" I just...I can't believe he actually went there.
"Hey, hey, calm down. Besides, don't you have to get ready for our match?" Gah, I hate it when Tommy makes a point.
"Oh yeah, almost forgot about that. I'll be right back." I jumped off the couch and grabbed my bag before heading to the bathroom to change into my ring gear for tonight.
I shifted back and forth in anticipation of my match tonight. Tommy and I were facing Team Hell No in a Philadelphia Street Fight. I loved fighting in hardcore matches like this because I could do pretty much whatever I wanted.
My music hit so I gave Tommy a quick hug and made my way out onto the ramp with a microphone in hand. Some people in the audience recognized my ECW gear and gave out a few 'ECW' chants, but for the most part it was just the crowd cheering for me. I smiled and listened to the cheers for a few seconds, this was a sound I would never get tired of hearing. "Alright, alright, I know tonight is a big night." I said into the microphone, effectively quieting the crowd. "Tonight it's Team Hell No," I motioned towards the ring to Kane and Daniel. "Facing off against myself, Ashlan Shaw and my mystery partner in a Philadelphia Street Fight!" I thought the fans weren't going to quiet down with how loud they were cheering. "Well, do you guys want to know who my partner is?"
The fans were going crazy cheering for whoever they thought my partner was going to be, making me smile brightly. "Since we're in Philly, and I was feeling a little nostalgic tonight, please welcome at this time, my partner for this evening, 'The Heart and Soul of ECW, Tommy Dreamer!"
When 'Bad Dream' hit the whole audience was on their feet chanting ECW. Up until this point I don't think the fans have ever been this loud in the history of any sporting event...scratch that, they've never been that loud in the history of any event.
Tommy came out with two kendo sticks, but handed one to me when he stopped beside me on the ramp. In return I handed him the microphone. "It's great to be back in Philadelphia. Being here brings back memories from a little wrestling promotion that was started around here, you may have heard of it. It went by the name of ECW." If there's one thing Tommy knows how to do, other than use a kendo stick, it's how to get a huge pop from the fans.
I chuckled slightly and shook my head; Tommy could keep us up here all night. Actually, now that I think about it, he might want to keep us up here all night. I nudged Tommy in the side. "C'mon bro, we have to get down there before Raw ends."
Tommy rolled his eyes and dropped the microphone. "By the way, your ring gear looks nice. I never thought I'd see your ECW gear again."
I smiled at his comment. "I never thought I would either." My gear wasn't really much different then what I would normally wear. I had on a pair of gray pants with a black floral looking pattern, a black ECW t-shirt, fingerless biker gloves, black combat boots with miniature brass knuckles dangling from the laces, a cap with cat ears, and a black hoodie with a camo four in the center (the four on the hoodie has no meaning whatsoever).
The two of us got in the ring and had a little mini sword fight with our kendo sticks before setting them on the apron. It was one of those moments where we could actually have fun and the whole audience loved it.
"I'll start the match off." I said. Tommy just shrugged so I assumed he approved that idea. Since Daniel would be starting the match off with me, and since I didn't really have a problem with him, I shook his hand before the bell rang.
The second the bell rang I ran and Clotheslined Daniel with enough force to leave him reeling for a couple of seconds. Those few seconds gave me enough time to kick him behind the knees a few times. Daniel fell to the mat so I quickly tried and Elbow Drop, but he rolled out of the way. I held my elbow and staggered to my feet then BAM! I was sent tumbling over the top rope.
Daniel stood on the top turnbuckle and got jumped towards me, but I just barely managed to move out of the way. His chest hit the edge of the barricade hard and knocked the air out of him, it quite possibly could've broken one of his ribs. Those barricades might have padding on them, but let me assure you if you jump from the top rope and end up hitting that barricade, it's going to hurt.
I wanted to drag Daniel back into the ring and continue the match, but at the same time I didn't want him to be too seriously injured, so I let the referee check and make sure he was alright. After the referee said he was I dragged Daniel over to the ring apron and pushed him back into the ring. Quickly I slid under the bottom rope and got to my feet. I grabbed Daniel and pulled him to his feet, only to hit him with a DDT. I then stumbled back to my corner and tagged in Tommy.
Tommy grabbed the kendo stick and cleaned house. He took out Kane on the apron, then went back and beat the holy heck out of Daniel. As cool as it was to watch, I would never wish the pain of getting it with a kendo stick upon anybody...well, unless that person happened to be Randy Orton or Chris Jericho.
After Tommy hit Daniel with the kendo stick repeatedly, it finally broke over Daniel's back causing me to wince slightly. Tommy then came back to our corner and tagged me in.
Seeing as how I had no problem with Daniel, and actually felt pretty bad for him, I Irish Whipped him into a corner and told him what I was going to do so he could avoid it and tag in Kane. Say what you will, but I actually do take pity on some people, and since I've been in the same position as Daniel, I felt like it would be the nice thing to do.
I kneed Daniel in the stomach and got ready to perform a Running Bulldog (just like CM Punk does it) but he pushed me just as I was about to jump and he made it back to Kane and tagged him in.
Kane and I had an awkward moment where we tried sizing each other up, which for obvious reasons failed, so he just grabbed my throat and got ready to Chokeslam me. When he lifted me into the air I jumped behind him and kicked him behind the knees repeatedly. Kane's knees buckled a little, but it didn't slow him down to much. Kane turned around and glared down at me.
I waved weakly at Kane with a nervous grin on my face and rolled out of the way when Kane tried to give me a Big Boot. It was right there that I decided to try more of an evasive strategy. I dodged punch after punch as I tried to gain enough distance between me and Kane so I could formulate a plan as to how Tommy and I were going to beat him.
I knew that trying a high-flying strategy would be foolish since Kane was pretty much a hundred percent, and I couldn't go into this with a power-house strategy for obvious reasons. A technical based assault would be better if Kane was either smaller or weaker, but it wasn't out of the picture. Using either a brawling or a hardcore strategy are my only real options right now, and since trying to brawl with Kane right now isn't very smart, I think I'll go with the hardcore style.
I narrowly missed being punched in the jaw by Kane and slipped back to my corner so I could grab my kendo stick. I whispered sorry to Kane and began nailing him in the sides with the kendo stick. Despite all the times Kane and I have been at each others' throat, I actually felt kind of bad for him. I mean, getting hit with a kendo stick is a pretty painful experience.
Kane fell to his knees in pain so I took advantage of the moment and drop kicked him in the face. I then went back to my corner and once again tagged Tommy in, hoping that he would be able to end the match.
Tommy got in there and started stomping on Kane's arms and legs. He then pulled Kane to his feet and Irish Whipped him into the ropes. Kane rebounded of them and ran at Tommy, but Tommy dropped to the floor, forcing Kane to jump over him. I tossed the kendo stick to Tommy, so when Kane came back for a second time, Tommy could hit him with it.
After getting hit with the kendo stick a few more times, Kane was dazed and stumbling around the ring. When he stumbled towards Tommy, Tommy managed to get Kane up on his shoulders and hit him with his finisher; the Dreamer Driver. Knowing that he had Kane beat, Tommy went for the pin.
I ran into the ring and gave Tommy a huge hug that rivaled in strength with the one I gave him earlier. It was a great feeling to have wrestled with Tommy again because if it wasn't for him, I might not have made it through ECW in one piece.
The two of us briefly celebrated in the ring before heading backstage. We would've stayed out there longer, but Tommy was going to have to head home soon. It upset me that our happy reunion would be coming to an end, but I knew that he had to go home to his family.
"So...what have you been up to since you left?" I asked curiously as we walked back to my locker room.
"I've mostly been doing indy shows. The schedule is a lot better for me to work with. It leaves me with more time for my family." He replied with a smile.
The two of us continued our conversation as we absentmindedly strolled down the hall. We talked about what the two of us have been up to over the past couple years, some of our stories from the road, and a lot of other subjects. When we got back to the locker room his phone started ringing, so he told me to hold on a second.
I nodded and turned around, only to come face to face with Dean. "Oh, hey Dean. How long have you been behind me?" I asked cheerfully.
"Since you guys got backstage." He sounded slightly annoyed, but I brushed it off as nothing.
"Really, I didn't notice you. I was catching up with Tommy." I said bluntly. I felt somebody tap me on the shoulder and remembered that Tommy was still here.
"Hey Ash, I have to take this call. I'll see you later." From the smile on his face I could infer that it was probably his wife or kids.
I nodded and waved. "Alrighty then, see ya soon." I then turned my attention back to Dean. "So what were we just talking about?"
Dean glared in the direction Tommy went in for a few seconds before turning and walking the opposite way. "I have to go."
I was confused by his sudden mood change, but didn't have time to ask him what was wrong because he was already too far away. I sighed and went into the locker room to change out of my ring gear.
Dean made his way back to The Shield's locker room, jealousy burning in his eyes. He was upset because of how much attention Ash was giving Tommy Dreamer. She was so busy talking to Dreamer that she didn't even notice her "boyfriend" was there to congratulate her. Dean believed that Dreamer would try and make a move on Ash, and her keeping Dreamer a secret in her locker room only added to his suspicions. Dean didn't know that Dreamer was like a father to Ash, and nothing more.
Dean slammed the locker room door shut, causing Seth and Roman to look at up him.
"Whoa Dean, what happened?" Seth asked.
"Dreamer's really starting to upset me." Dean huffed as he sat down on the couch. "Ash is so caught up with her little 'friend' that she's completely ignored me all day."
"I'm sure it's nothing." Roman tried to assure him, but it was to no avail.
Dean let out a snort of contempt. "Then why didn't she tell anybody, not even us, and why was she hiding him in her locker room?"
Seth and Roman both looked at each other and they both had the same question in mind, but Roman was the one to ask it. "So what do you want to do about it?"
"You know what I want to do." Dean growled darkly.
It was just as Seth and Roman feared. "Dean we can't just go off and attack Tommy Dreamer, Ash will either kill or hate us!" Seth protested.
"I never said you two had to help me!" Dean snapped as he glared at the two of them.
Roman closed his eyes and sighed. "We're The Shield, what one of us does we all do. I'm just worried about the consequences."
Dean nodded his head. "Good, let’s go."
"Whoa, right now? Why so soon?" Seth asked.
"I want to do this before I decide to back out of it." Dean replied before walking out the door.
Even though Seth and Roman knew it wasn't a good idea, they followed Dean to where Tommy Dreamer was.
Tommy was still on the phone with his wife when The Shield attacked him. Roman ran up to him and slammed Dreamer into the side of one of the trailers. When Dreamer hit the floor Roman and Dean began stomping on him.
"Get him up, c'mon get him up!" Seth shouted.
Roman pulled Tommy up off the floor and slammed him into the trailer again before screaming in his ear. When Seth yelled to get Tommy out of there Roman threw him into some of the boxes nearby.
Seth started punching a defenseless Tommy in the face and shortly thereafter Dean started stomping on Tommy. Seth stopped his attack and walked towards the loading door. "Get him over here now!" Seth yelled as Dean and Roman pulled him up and dragged him over to where Seth was. Seth then took Dean's place and yelled, "this is The Shield's house now Tommy!"
Roman and Seth slammed Dreamer into the metal door then all three members of The Shield began stomping on and kicking Dreamer. They did that until Ricardo Rodriguez tried to stop them.
The Shield did what they did best and attacked Ricardo as well. They weakened him a little then slammed him into the metal loading door as well.
The referees then came over and told The Shield to stop. The refs stood a good distance away from The Shield in case they decided to attack somebody new, but The Shield, feeling proud of what they had done, left.
On his way out the door, Dean looked down at a nearly unconscious Tommy Dreamer and kicked him as hard as he could in the back. Dean then followed his comrades, a new sense of pride washing over him.
