I was awaken by my phone vibrating under my pillow and I immediately answered it.
"Hey Spence, big plans for today. 1 hour. Mystery Place." -he hung up.
I sat for a moment confused but still smiling and checked my schedule for today. Nothing important so I quickly marked in Mystery Hangout with Mystery Guy just for fun. My mother is working today and Liam is at his friends house so I'll be home alone until my later plans. I decided to take a bath and really think about how great things are turning around. Sure I lost Dylan but he was replaced with such a sweeter and more interesting guy. Justin. Ugh his hair and the way he messily gelled it up, his smile and the way he looks in your eyes when you're sad. I'm not looking for love but he's definitely the type of person I need to be around right now. I soaked in the tub extra long because I haven't felt so relaxed in a long time but when I saw the time I realized I only had half an hour until I saw Justin. I gently got out and drained the tub, I let my hair air dry because it gets a much better wavy effect that way. I threw on some black leggings and a floral tank top with a light blue jean jacket. I don't know why I want to impress him, I just want him to see me as I see him. I grabbed my bag and quickly headed out the door excited for what big plans Justin had. I went to the coffee shop thinking that was the 'mystery place' but I'm on time and there's no sign of Justin. I got a text.
Spence...how is it supposed to be a mystery place if you know where you're going. Follow the signs.
What signs was he talking about? I looked around so confused but my eye caught a paper taped to the back of a chair in the coffee shop. I went in and read it.
You seem angry. Wanna pizza me?
Uhm.. Pizza? Oh I think he means 'piece of' but he must be referring to the pizza place across the street. I crossed the street and looked around. The server handed me a drink that I didn't order but I drank it and at the bottom of the cup it said R V. That's it? Some clue. I looked for an RV but there was nothing. I thought of the toy car store down the street and walked fast. I asked the worker at the desk if there's any RV models but she said she sold the last one to a male, about 18 or 19. Must have been Justin. I got another text.
You're trying too hard honey, sLOW Down.
The capital letters make LOWD..like load?? or. Oh my gosh this is too hard. I dialed Justin's number.
"JUSTIN. I'm done with your games. Your clues suck and it's too hard."
"Sorry, can't hear you, it's to LOUD in here!" he hung up. Oh.. he meant loud. OF COURSE the night club! Rev! Excited that I had finally figured out the next clue I ran to the nightclub even though it was mid day and to my luck it was closed but there was a paper stuck under a book on a table outside the entrance. I walked up and slid out the paper.
Good job Spence. You should be a detective! Follow the map on the back of this. Can't wait 2 c u.
Oh gosh. He's so corny. Following the directions I turned over the map and walked back to my car. I got in and programmed the unknown location into my GPS. It felt like I was a kid again following treasure maps. It was about a 10 minute drive that lead me to an open field. There were many trees with arrows taped on every other one and I followed them to a picnic blanket and basket but no sign of Justin. There was a note on the blanket.
Sing the entire chorus of an opera song out loud at the top of your lungs and you'll find me (;
Oh my. Was he actually going to do this to me? It was an open field so I decided to belt out a couple high tunes and heard a chuckle behind me. I turned around to find Justin hysterically laughing at what I thought was pretty good.
"It's nice to see you," -he said with a big smile on his face.
"Why? Why did you do this?" -I asked.
"You seemed like you had a lot on your mind so I wanted to make you feel better, being a kid was always better in my opinion."
He gave me that precious look in the eyes. I smiled and he gestured for me to sit so I did.
"Look Spence, I just want you to know I don't do this for every stranger I meet at a bar. You stood out to me. It seems you're a really smart, beautiful girl and I already love talking to you after a couple days. I have to ask you something important," -he licked his lips then after he got on one knee. I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
"Will you Spencer, be my..... best friend?" -he fell to the ground laughing and I couldn't help but do the same.
"Of course I will Justin" -he placed a ring pop on my finger and I know best friends is the perfect label for what I want him to be.
We got pretty deep into conversation and I learned so much about him like his favorite color, foods, artists, subjects, interests. He also managed to tell me a lot about Selena like how she was really sweet but nothing he ever did seemed like enough for her.
"I spoiled her," -he told me.
"I gave her everything, and after she misunderstands one thing, it's over."
He didn't cry. I guess he's following his own advice to not cry over something more than once. I proceeded with telling about my relationship.
"Dylan was a great guy and we had a thing before it was official, back then it was great but once we started dating he stopped trying. It hurts but I got something much better out of it," -I said smiling at Justin. He's about to say something.
"I need you to make me a promise..."
