15. Touché

Sitting down with my legs and arms crossed, I continued to try and understand what Jack had informed me about. After the confrontation and realization of Jack also sharing the same powers as me, I found out that I was no longer afraid of him. He was the same as me. Biting my bottom lip in thought, I roughly thought out each of the fine details that Jack had given me. Looking around drearily, I realized once again that I was now alone in the cabin since Jack said he wanted some fresh air. It looked like he wanted to give me my own space so that in my own time I would take in everything that he had told me, well I at least hoped that was what he had had in mind.

After he had sat himself down on the stool, I had spent the past hour listening to Jack explain how much danger I was actually in; and it all had to do with the higher-ups. They didn’t want me nor my power anymore. Jack Frost had vaguely told me that they had lost interest in me ever since they had found out about him. But what they didn’t know was that Jack Frost was not human. In fact, their sources currently told them that Jack Frost was a year younger then me and was living in somewhere called England. Uncrossing my arms and legs slowly, I stood up. It was colder then usual and it looked like for the time in forever, I was beginning to feel the extremities of the snow. My toes and fingers were beginning to turn pinkish whilst my breathing began to make a rattling noise like a tugboat. Walking over slowly to the armchair, I sat myself down. Pulling my legs up to my chest, I hugged my arms around them and shoved my face into my legs. Looking up slightly, I now realized something. Ever since Jack Frost had used his magic, he had unconsciously turned the downpour of rain into snow. I now realized that when I had first woken up, I had heard rain on the roof but for the time being the rain had been replaced by snow. Smiling a little, I began to rock my weight back and forth slightly on the seat. It was something we both shared in common. Jack had also explained how sometimes he would lose control of his powers. I felt a sense of guilty pleasure when I first heard this. Closing my eyes contently, I breathed harshly into my legs. The hot air proved as a temporary escape from the cold as I began to focus on keeping warm. Looking up slowly, I began to feel the cold wind brush against my face and legs. Putting both arms over my legs, I began to peer from inbetween my legs.

“Sorry did I wake you?” Jack asked.

Quickly shaking my head, I looked up at him.

Jack closed the door behind him and I now realized that he had brought something with him. Jack began to walk towards the ashes on the ground and then bent over whilst removing sticks and debris from underneath his jacket. Watching him quietly, I felt my chest slowly become warm as he placed the pieces down one by one. Looking at him like this, I began to examine his face as he concentrated on heaping all of the wood into a bundle. His soft features would have made you think he was around my age, but the soft white hair that brushed against his face made you think otherwise. Watching him finish off his job, he began to wipe his hands against his pants. Sighing slightly, he then looked up at me with his head titled.

“Cold?” Jack asked.

Blinking myself out of the trance, I shook my head once again.

Jack smiled slightly before standing up. Jack turned around and began to head in the opposite direction. I watched as he walked over towards something lying on the ground. Bending down now, Jack picked what looked like a wooden staff and lifted it off the ground. Walking over to wood once again, he pointed the staff at the sticks and in an instant the wood lit up with blue flames. Watching in awe, I watched on in fascination as Jack placed the wooden staff beside the fire and then blew into it. The fire instantly changed into a glowing haze of shimmering blue and began to spread over all the sticks. Jack looked up at me and beckoned me with his hand.

Unlacing my hands from one another, I placed both feet slowly on the ground. Wincing slightly from the coldness, I stood up and began to tippee-toe towards him. As soon as I reached the fire, I sat down next to Jack and placed both hands in front of the fire. Furrowing my brow, I turned to Jack.

“Why isn’t it warm?” I asked.

Jack continued to smile and pointed at my hands.

Turning my eyes back to the fire, I now saw that a waft of white smoke was beginning to envelope my fingers. Watching the smoke closely now, I began to feel my fingertips warm up as the smoke began to snake around my arms and into my sleeves. Fluttering my eyelids lightly, I began to feel my body slowly but steadily warm up. Looking down at my feet, I now saw that they were no longer pinkish but back to the original pale-tone that they usually were. Raising my eyes back to Jack, I now realized he was gazing into mine. I looked back into his and took in the electric blue eyes that I had owned for my whole life. His eyes twinkled as the fire’s light flickered within them. Lowering my hands now, I put out my palm. Blinking myself back into reality I began to feel my cheeks flare up. Looking away quickly, I cursed myself silently.

“So what was that?” I stuttered.

Jack looked down at my palm.

“My energy” he replied.

Looking down at my palm, I now saw that the smoke was no longer there. Lowering my hand quickly, I placed it on the ground.

“But how?” I asked.

“How what?” Jack replied deviously.

Rolling my eyes mechanically, I landed them back on his.

“How did you make that?” I asked whilst leaning my head towards the fire.

Jack twisted his face into thought and leaned back on both hands.

“Well if you have been through generations of years upon this planet, you seem to pick up the odd thing along the way” Jack said whilst shrugging.

Smiling slightly, I raised my hand to my mouth and smirked.

Jack laughed a little before looking up to me.

“What’s so funny?” Jack asked.

Shrugging slightly, I continued to smirk behind my hand.

Jack stopped smiling and sighed dramatically.

“Okay spill the beans, what gives?” Jack asked seriously.

Watching him get all mad over something so small made him look like a little kid. But as I continued to smirk at him, I couldn’t help but adore the way he got so mad. It wasn’t my fault that what he had just said made him sound like an old man.

Coughing hoarsely, I wiped away my smirk with my hand slowly.

“Nothing” I replied.

Jack rolled his eyes and began smiling deviously.

“You know, out of all the women I’ve met you would have to be one of the most un-lady individual's out there” Jack laughed.

Feeling my jaw drop, I placed both hands on my hips and pursued my lips.

“Let me remind you that I am a queen” I said scoffed.

“And a weird one at that” Jack replied.

Feeling the blood rush to my cheeks, I felt a breath of air escape. Closely after, I felt my lips curl. Watching Jack, I now saw that he was beginning to laugh. Trying to keep a serious face, the façade soon faded away as the both of us burst into laughter. Feeling my ribcage rattle like an animal cage, I continued to laugh as Jack continued to do the same. After what had seemed like hours, we both slowly began to calm down. My chest now felt sore from laughing as well as my face was feeling tight from smiling. Letting out an exasperated sigh, I rolled unto my back. After I layed myself flat on the ground, the sound of a thud soon followed. Tilting my head backwards, I realized that Jack was now also lying down. Watching him smile tiredly, I began to feel my lips curl back again.

“You know what I think?” I exclaimed.

“What?” Jack asked.

“You’re not exactly the definition of normal” I teased.

Hearing the sound of Jack chuckle slightly, I sat up. Turning my gaze back to the fire, I now realized that the fire was now gone. Looking down at Jack I now saw that he was smirking at me.

“Touché” he replied.
