I felt like yelling, complaining, shouting angrily at Liam but I couldn’t. It was our deal and I was way too afraid of what could happen to dare break it. Though I was bored and annoyed by what was happening, I couldn’t say anything so I decided to fake a smile every time he was saying something.
He was trying to make me ready for tonight when I would first meet Niall. But it wasn’t going on very well. The closet was open and probably half of it was spread on the floor. Why he didn’t want me to choose the clothes I didn’t know.
“Don’t you think pants would be better than a skirt with heels?” I tried not to yell but just to try giving him my opinion. He looked at me with a desperate look before finally nodding. He’d sure give in soon.
“Paul said he had told Niall him you had the same character as him so you would probably get on well. Although I don’t know how he convinced Niall to meet you. He really had to be convincing.”
“Maybe he told him it was time for him to date someone?” I suggested and Liam looked daggers at me.
“Don’t criticize him on that.” I shrugged my shoulders, giggling slightly.
“You intend to kill him but I’m not allowed to tease a little? Are you starting to regret what you want to do?” He shook his head but didn’t reply anything. Maybe because he would get too angry at me or I might be right. What if Liam didn’t really want to get rid of his old mates? What would Louis think of it? He seemed much more determined than his friend.
“I don’t care what you say about him. But you shouldn’t tell that to him once you’re gonna meet him. He won’t be pleased,” he whispered, not looking at me. “And you can’t allow yourself to make any mistakes tonight. If you don’t get on with him tonight, we’ll have to change our plans. And it would be better for you if we don’t.” He looked threatening when he turned around to look up at me so I simply nodded, knowing it would be better if I didn’t answer.
“So do you think that would be adapted for tonight?” he said in a calmer voice, changing suddenly subject and pointing out clothes in front of him.
“Don’t worry! I won’t say or do anything wrong!” I repeated for the hundredth times as Louis and Liam were driving me at Niall’s house. Louis had been repeating all over again that there would surely be something wrong in the evening. And he was even angrier because I wouldn’t wear their mic tonight; Liam thought it would be too risky for me to wear it this time. When he had told me so I simply nodded though I felt like jumping around in happiness. Everything would be complicated if I had had it. And tonight was my only opportunity. I shouldn’t waste it.
I grabbed my purse and stepped out of the car, walking toward the house they had pointed me out. I walked toward the portal and rang, starting to stress. I had to be perfect tonight though I knew I would hate that evening. I wanted to screw it all just to save his life. I didn’t want to ruin his as I did with Harry’s.
The portal opened and I walked up toward the front door, which opened soon afterwards, revealing a tall and blonde man. He was handsome but not as much as Harry, I thought to myself.
“Hi! I’m Scarlett!” I exclaimed happily and he smiled before introducing himself, “I’m Niall! Nice to meet you! Come on in!” he pushed himself aside and I walked in, looking around me with amazement. I had never such a huge house.
“Your entrance hall must be bigger than my whole flat!” I couldn’t help but shout. He laughed.
Oh no! I wasn’t supposed to say things like that! What a great start, I thought while discreetly shaking my head. But to my surprise, he didn’t seem to mind at all.
“Fancy having a look around?” I nodded though thinking it was weird. I didn’t know him at all and he was showing me his house before we even started talking.
The house was huge so it took a while but I had to say I enjoyed that time. We talked a little while he showed me around. Every time there was a picture of his old band, he would tell me an anecdote about it. Seeing him looking so happy and nostalgic made me sad. I had never been a huge fan but it hurt to see him like that when his old mates wanted his death. He also told me about his friendship with the two remaining members, Zayn and Harry. And I felt bad because I knew none of them was safe anymore, mainly Harry. I began doubting I would finish this mission. I would be strong enough to lie once again.
We finally entered the last room, which was the kitchen. All of the sudden my stomach started to rumble. I looked toward Niall, ashamed, but he burst out laughing.
“I guess it’s time to eat! You’re starving yourself or what?” I shook my head and he kept on laughing.
Argh I hated when something like that happened!
“Sorry but I didn’t cook. You mind if we eat pizza?” he asked in a rather awkward way but I smiled at him.
“I don’t mind at all! It has been ages since I last ate pizza!” I shouted and looked at me with a shocked expression. “Poor you,” I heard him whispering, which made me laugh.
The rest of the evening went on very well. We talked and watched TV, zapping through the channels. It was a cool evening. But it wasn’t as good as the date I had with Harry. It was different with Niall because he was more like the guy you’d like having as your best friend.
He asked me if I wanted to play video games though he seemed to wonder what my answer would be. I nodded happily. I wouldn’t say I loved playing video games but I play it from time to time so I thought it would be fun. He looked pleased I said yes. We started playing Fifa though I kept losing all the time; he laughed a lot seeing how bad I was but it didn’t matter. It was fun!
A while later I glanced at my watch and bit my lip. The time had come.
“Niall?” I called him as he was looking very seriously at his game. “I’m going to the bathroom,” I told him and he just nodded. I stood up and made my way through the house, trying to remember where it was. Once I found it, I rushed inside and quickly opened my purse, taking out the pen and the paper I had stolen at Liam and Louis’ house earlier today. They had disappeared somewhere in their house for a time so I quickly had searched for those, which were necessary for my plan to work out.
I unfolded the sheet of paper and started writing as fast as I could what I had thought of during the whole afternoon. I didn’t pay attention to the mistakes nor how bad my writing was looking; only the content mattered. I finished it and folded it back before rushing out of the bathroom, hoping it hadn’t taken me too long.
I walked through the kitchen to come back into the living room and put the paper on the table, to be sure he would notice it. To my relief, Niall hadn’t moved an inch and still was playing.
I coughed loudly and told him, “I think it’s time for me to go back home. It’s getting late.” He stopped playing and stood up.
“Okay.” He smiled. “I had fun tonight! It was nice meeting you!” I smiled back and nodded.
“Maybe we could see each other again. I want to beat you at least once at that game!” I lied, hoping he wouldn’t say he didn’t want to see me again.
But he just laughed. “I think it’s going to take you a while to beat me but yeah, that would be nice to see you again!” I smiled wider and hugged him, telling him goodbye as well.
Then, I walked out of the house and waved at him before walking away. Once I was outside, I took out my phone and thought they would be happy. Their plan had worked.
But mine would work too. I smiled grimly while dialling Louis’ number.
“I’m out. And everything went on perfectly.” I heard him chuckle.
“Good! Our plan can now begin.”
